Race is a social construct, and not something that is objective biology.

Sometimes, it's better to NOT have the choice...

This is true in games where your character has a very specific personality, and linear plot that revolves around it. In other words, just about every action game with a plot, ever. That is not the case in an RPG where customizability of the main character is one of the biggest selling points.

Bioware opened the door by implementing F/F content, as much as they were in denial about it. If they had just simply made one heterosexual romance option, it's unlikely that anybody would have complained. It's because they chose to offer great variety that people expect them to give every option. I'm still convinced that more people would want an M/M option and a well-written F/F option than a romance with a mandibled avian alien.

Race is a social construct, and not something that is objective biology.

Quite true. But it's still a real social construct. Social constructs exist - that is a fact.

Then, being only able to choose only a Black Male would utterly drive to an Internet Meme with Kanye West.
It was done with Jacob :P

And yeah, I don't mind a black male Shepard, I can't decide to put Vin Diesel in every movie I want to see, right ? Do you see Vin Diesel playing Aragorn ? Or ARWEN ? Sometimes, it's better to NOT have the choice... Especially with Vin Diesel :P

I'm basically saying that people that want a Gay M/M Shepard option isn't the beginning of a chain reaction where fans want, "Communist Shepard" or "Green-skinned Shepard" or "Shepard with an awesome 401K".

Since Bioware already GAVE us a "gay" Sheppard, but only gave us the F/F version, we simply want them to be fair, and give us the M/M version as well.

It's as if Bioware had Chocolate and Vanilla ice cream to give everyone who plays their games, but they only decided to give us Chocolate. And their vanilla's just sitting there, melting away.

Social or not it exists.

And aren't africans immune to certain diseases (or have a high immunity) that a Caucasion would catch easily and vice versa. And their are certain diseases that do exclusively affect people of (or decendants) certain races. So I'm not sure on the whole "social construct" . But yeah. I'll take your word for it. (Damn my engineering background They don't teach you much else in my school T_T)

Supposedly because I have sickle cell trait I would have a difficult tiime catching malaria. Sickle cell mainly affects those of african decent.

And My family has been in america since slavery times so...=]

Well, I don't know how do you say that in English, but in my country, "Races" is not a valuable term to determine someone's ethnic origin.

They are spanish, french, japanese, koreans, canadians and mexicans. But can you really compare a Vietnameese ((Who's skin color is determined by his origins) with an Egyptian ? (Who's skin color is determined by his origins)

And a "white" russian won't look like a white "australian".

HOWEVER !

A Sieamese cat won't look like a Persian cat, it's what we called "races" inside "species".

I know but he/she was saying that ME shouldn't be changed at all.

I don't remember him saying this.

Also I notice you took out the DLC helms. XD and the DLC in general.

You caught me
And hell people complain about the straight romances too. :?

And some complain about characters that can be romanced, and how they don't open up to you because they're not romanced (honestly this really bugs me. Is it really too difficult to implement a friendship system for those of the opposite sex? Really?)

Yea, I share your sentiment. I noticed that Garrus at least seemed to have one less conversation than other squad mates if you don't romance him.

But that doesn't mean I have to STFU and be a good little girl

???

I also noticed: why is it that the same sex people tend to keep to their own threads about the issue but everyone else comes in acting as though we're screaming to place it above everything else?  I found that odd.

I agree, people are exaggerating it. I assume it something to do with how many iterations the threads have.

Otherwise: Go ahead. Be the communist Shep you want to be. Its not like the game offers you a chance to be socialists, or captialist either.

wat

It's wicked circle. People come in trolling and whining, the moderators lock the thread, the serious proponents start a new one to have civilized conversation in, trolls return, thread gets locked...

Just sympathise with the quarians. They're a positive example of communism (by necessity).

Races do not exist in objective biology - in other words, biologists prefer using different terms than race. The concept of race is something modern and had its roots in racism masquerading as biology and science - as an example, people professing their own "race" as superior to others.

I can tell from how you are writing that you are not well acquainted or studied in the subject. Not that I blame you. Clearly, there are differences amongst people, but the attributes often attributed to different "races" are neither the rule nor objectively true. Good luck describing the "asian" "race" in general without making false generalizations.

Point taken. I bow to your superior knowledge (no sarcasm).

Yeah I edited that already. XD It is interesting though.

Engineering schools don't really care much about that. Or at least mine doesn't. :innocent:

Alas. Oh well at least I can design a computer chair using Solid Edge. There's some solace in that. Even if I kind of suck at it. :crying:

You're right, race is not a biological, but a social concept. Sociologists and sociolinguistics do use the term "race" however, because it's part of the social reality that they're studying. Biologists can say whatever they want, but most laymen won't listen. Race is social reality, and it won't change by closing your eyes from it; people still continue to consider themselves as representatives of races, and it affects their treatment of others. I'm not saying this is a good thing, but it is a fact, and it doesn't change by ignoring it.

But this is way off topic. What you say if we return to homosexuality?

Why does everything think I'm a man?!?

I guess partaking in a thread about male homosexuality leads to that kind of guess. I've been assumed gay rather often because I'm active here.

And who broke the page?

Anyways I'm going to be shallow and say why in truth I really want M/M

I want to be able to romance Kaidan without listening to Hale's voice.

And I actually like Meer's voice.

So...yeah. :?

Shallow? Defintely.

But I can't help it. :crying: Hale's voice makes me want to kick puppies.

Save the puppies BioWare! Save them!

Ah, I got a point : I didn't think that you were a man, Ryzaki, by the fact that you're using a female avatar (For the most female gamers that I know, they have ALWAYS a female character when it's possible) and you're speaking... Well... As a strong lady. :P

No offense, in my jungle, it's female iguanas that make the law everywhere they go :3

I correct myself by confirming that anthropologists and sociologists would be additional people who would not professionally use the term race, except in reference to it as a social construct. It's much better just to see "population" and the like.

This very thread was started by a female though. :crying:

And hell I've said I was female at least 20 times in this thread alone. :crying:

That's it. I'm placing my gender in my siggy. Since no one understands otherwise. :crying:

Well, to return to my arguments before taking off :

I think that homosexuality in Mass Effect 2 is very conceivable, but not compulsory. It may be not fair, but the sexuality of Shepard is not one of the key to unlock the ultimate ending of ME3. I don't think that blaming Bioware is a good idea, as they previous experience with instauring homosexuality in ME1 led to a mediatic scandal and the withdrawal of ME1 games in some countries stores.

I think that the decision to not introduce male to male pairing in ME1 and ME2 is a manoeuvre of carefulness. It's not fair, I admit, that F/F sexuality is better accepted than M/M, but I don't think that Bioware and EA want to risk a new Mass Effect scandal.

I hope my arguments are clear enought
