Just to create a better atmosphere it just doesn't look right after fighting your way though a couple dozen enemies for there to be no bodies lying around.

It was probably (dont quote me) decided to remove the bodies to lighten the load on the PC`s running the game, would be nice as an option though, as I agree with OP, it would add atmosphere to an already amazing experience.

The removal of bodies is necessary for performance, memory, and stability reasons.
While most PCs that meet our minimum specification should have more processing, and rendering power as well as memory available, than the xbox, they're not limitless.
The reason the corpses are disappearing is that the game is recovering the resources which these enemies were using and it lowers the calculating power needed to run at an adequate speed.
Adjusting our garbage collection system is not a simple matter and it has the potential to do a lot of unpleasant things if it's not perfect. I won't say that there's no possibility that this system could be adjusted, but it is fairly unlikely.
