... But I've had Legam as my avatar for a while now. And I just make what I think looks cool/interesting.

... When was this? Was my other avatar the Dalish? Might explain why he rejected you. He's not really into humans, save Morrigan.

Lol well it was my ****ty City Elf going after him long ago. Ah but the past is best left in the past. :innocent:

I'm just jealous you can make decent looking guys. Mine all end up looking so boring.

My constant group was Alistair, Zevran, Shale and the dog (used with the extra dog slot mod)... I would consider of course Zevran to be my Warden's love, and Alistair to be his bro. Either one could be the best friend then.

Shale is just fantastic though. Easily in the same best friend zone.

But oddly, the others are just friends and not good friends. However, I would consider Jowan to be a good friend for my Warden, despite the fact that he's a bloody blood mage!

Aw, makes me wish I could remember it. Too many things happen on the forums over the months for me to recall all the awesome shenanigans, unfortunately.

Eh, I'm a character-design focused artist. I've always had an easy time drawing/writing/CC-making males. It's women I have trouble with. But I rarely play female PCs, so I suppose that's not a big deal.

So I don't totally derail things - for my Dalish ranger Warden, his best buddies were Morrigan and Zevran. Shale probably would've been part of his close circle too, but I didn't have access to DLC at the time.

I really like your work! It makes me want to get back into drawing.

But yes, to keep the thread on track: I'm surprised that I've never had a character who dislikes Morrigan. Of all the companions, I'd think she'd be one of the hardest to like. Yet even my characters who are distrustful of mages end up respecting her far more than most others. They even know deep down that she'll betray them, but they can't hate her for it. She is what she is, and she is strong and proud, and it always draws them to her. Wynne, on the other hand, has been left in the tower more often than not. My characters always surprise me with who they end up liking, it's a lot of fun. =P

My choice in friends has changed throughout my progression and playthroughs, especially as I glean new aspects of the companions' personalities' that I hadn't discovered in previous playthroughs. Leliana used to be my BFF and Wynne my mother/grandmother figure. I wouldn't take Zev anywhere with me out of distrust and disgust. I didn't really play with Sten except to do his personal quest. Always got Oghren too late to explore his dialogue much. I liked Shale but only used her when I didn't think Alistair could handle mass tanking duties-she was kept around only for fun conversation when I knew it would be triggered. Morrigan I just hated and insulted whenever I could, she stayed at camp 99% of the time.

NOW though, I'd say that Morrigan would by the PC's best friend (Al is always the LI, so friends with him goes without saying). Followed by Oghren-the respect he has for the Warden after hitting high approval and at the gates before the final battles seems more meaningful to me than Sten. Also, this latest time through I finally got Zev up to 100 approval (as friends) and I'm still too squeamish to actually "like" him, but it was nice to see more depth from him and get the full story of how he came to be in Ferelden. Leli just seems creepier the more I play and I'm thinking next time I play I'm going to kill Wynne (feels gleefully evil just thinking about it).

Heh, sounds a lot like my "canon" run. I ran with Al, Zev, and Shale for the most part, romanced Zev, and became bros with Al. I even stayed in Denerim with him and Zev at the end. But I play on the 360 primarily, no extra spot for dog for me :(

Alister, definitely.

I found myself wanting to talk to him all the time, but quickly ran out of dialog options. :(

Oghren reminded me of that annoying drunk guy that's always at the bar. I find myself laughing 'at him' rather than with him.

I do wish that here was more general chitchat. I found myself wanting to talk more, especially after particularly ugly quests. Not necessarily any heavy character or romance development, just a little conversation to unwind.

Same. It just seems strange that my party and I would just go through a zone and deal with important and scary stuff and not at least talk about it with each other. Especially after Broodmother, my dwarf girl really wanted to talk about that with someone... and maybe extract a promise that her friends would never let anything like that happen to her.

For my "canon" run I played a City Elf Male, and I tried to play him as having a pretty hefty grudge against humans. I almost always chose the "what's that supposed to mean?" option when someone mentions him being an elf (I love watching them backpedal), and he was kind of a jerk to King Cailan.

But Alistair was the exception, and I consider him my character's BFF...well scratch that last F. More like BFUICTSL (Until I Chose To Spare Loghain). Like others have said, his reaction is pretty tough to hear, and I felt pretty bad. At first I assumed I'd be able to persuade him, but his "he betrayed cailan and duncan and you gave him the highest honor I can think of" really hit home. I'm hoping there's some way I can repair all that in Awakening, but I'm not holding my breath.

The other exception for him was Morrigan, but she never felt like a "normal" human, so maybe that's why he was able to get along with her so well.

Absolutely!!

The depths you could go with the characters and their relationships is pretty staggering.

I guess you have to draw the line somewhere, but the more the merrier imho.

Alistair.

I never used the dog. Alistair I liked as a character mostly because Leilana is more a character who comes onto you, Morrigan is too shrewish and Shale refers to you as "it". Alistair however is more friendly.
