Recharge Time: 30 seconds
Duration: 18 seconds

Does it seem to anyone else that this was a mistype by a dev and that the values should be swapped?

I know that Shepard's drone as an engineer only lasts up to 24 seconds before bonuses (even if it only has a recharge of 3 seconds), but it still seems odd to me that they would have such a high recharge time compared to every other squadmate ability in the game.

It sure doesn't seem that long in game.

Hmm... you're right. I wonder if it's a typo. I think I will time this.

I think Legion should have Disruptor Ammo instead of Drone, though. He's an Infiltrator not an Engineer and I think it's crappy that he's basically an upgraded version of Tali.

The cooldown is so ridiculously long its almost not worth using ever. No CD should ever be longer than 12 secs for squadmates.

18 seconds would be manageable though, if just barely.  Which is what makes me think that the values were accidentally swapped.

I believe they made it that long on purpose. Out of all your squad mates and all of the class option, an Engineer, Tali, and Legion are the only ones that share unique powers. As a result, they wanted to make sure that the Engineer's Drone was superior, otherwise the class would have no purpose.

Shepard's 3 second cooldown drone would still be vastly superior to theirs even if their cooldown was reduced to 18 seconds.
I agree that the engineer needs to be a distinct class; but the answer to that problem isn't to make 2 of the squadmates have largely wasted abilites, and I would like to think that BioWare knows better than that.

The drones aren't wasted though. When using Tali or Legion with another class, they still serve their purpose. The idea is so that you wouldn't depend on them or that they do not become stronger than other squad mates because of the Drone's reliability. Aside from Miranda, who is the only one that can be considered the "strongest" squad mate, every one is practically equal. They have their own style which makes them unique in certain situations. Granted some powers are more reliable or powerful than others depending on the class, but the overall balance of the squad seems relatively equal, in my opinion.

30 seconds is a bit absurd for a recharge when weighed against recharge times of every other power in the game -
why would I ever want to use an easily destroyable drone against synthetics when tali can just hack them every 12 seconds, which creates a much more efficient distraction considering it makes the enemies funnel their damage against each other rather than wasting it on a drone

not only that, if you have improved power duration (improved ai hacking + quarian engineer = 15sec duration on a 12 sec recharge, which can be further improved by the 20% cooldown/duration tech upgrades) you can have multiple instances of ai hacking going on simultaneously for a few seconds, which is useful if enemies are spread out on a large playfield

18 sec should be the max possible recharge for any power in ME2 imo

does anyone know for certain if Tali & Legion's combat drones are more durable than Shepard's? Maybe it's because I don't have it fully upgraded yet but it seemed like the squadmate drones survive enemy attention a bit longer than Shepard's.

Seems terribly long to me. Every time I bring Tali or Legion along and have them whip out a drone, I'll end up checking their cooldown status at least thrice and thinking, "NOT YET!? Geth Hunter charging. Hurry up plz."
