Umm, ME2 felt a lot smaller to me - felt like you just "teleport" between small areas, even with those 8MB you-are-here map movies playing (not that many of them ever has time to finish before loading is done).

(In a way, smaller is a good thing - keeping things tight, without miles of useless dead space between points of interest, is something of a rule of good design.)

It seems that many people still do not understand, that doing the in-engine elevator scene, does not make the actual loading itself any slower, than a prerendered loading screen does.
It really feels like someone somehow completely misunderstood the real cause of people's annoyance and threw the baby out with the bathwater, but somehow I can't imagine it's that simple - the devs are not stupid.

Is it really the same people that complained about the elevators before, that are unhappy with the current approach now? I doubt that. Damned if you do, damned if you don't - you'll always have one or the other group of people lynching you. :)

I'd have been happy, had they only sped up the interior animations on the elevators, so that you actually get a sense of travelling a long distance, rather than a single floor and added a skip-to-end-station button, with an indicator popping up once loading is done.

I have no idea, but is each are really so resource intensive, that it is impossible to keep several loaded at a time? One might have guessed that background loading the other floors of the Normandy, while visiting one, would be reasonable, but since it isn't done this way, I must be severely mistaken on their memory footprint. (EDIT: I do realise that just about everything is env and normal mapped...)

The main difference between ME1 and ME2 for me was ME1 felt like I was in a story while ME2 felt like I was playing a game. The elevators and open feel of ME1 really immersed you in the story. The load screens and 'End Mission' statment brought you out of that universe and reminded you that you were playing a game. No more 'End Mission' statements and no more loading screens.

If a loading screen is necessary then make it simialar to the elevators or mass jump cinematics. I'm sure Bioware can think of something that can keep me immersed without causing every idiot to **** about.

Hell yes! Bring back teh elevators! I miss hearing that epic salsa theme that plays, lol reminds me of an akward yet funny elevator scene while the characters are quite, like an akward silence. Kinda like that scene from Mr & Mrs Smith.. I don't know why, but I always found it funny..

what elevator takes 2 minutes?  And as I said before, BW has admitted that they artificially inflated the elevator times to try and get people to feel oh wow, this place is huge.

Yeah, add a check box when you start a new game that asks if you want elevators or not and if you check no elevators then you just get a boring old loading screen.

I don't think it's being implied that they go back in exactly as they were implimented before with the extra built in time, but instead put them back in with party banter and glactic news and as soone as that's over you are out of the loading screen, no adding 5-10 more seconds so that you feel like you were really high up.

Even then they are a useless mechanism. Take Garrus and Tali and run up the stairs. They do the banter thing. No forced waiting required. You're doing something in game already.

What most people actually want it the banter but enforced waiting to hear banter (which either repeats or runs out) is not a good idea at any angle.

The news reports using the terminals are already much much better then enforced waiting. What is missing is placing a new report terminal + a tv screen with emily wong in the captain's quarters and allowing quick channel change so i do not have to hear all the previous reports of destiny ascension's 20 planet cruise just to get to the latest news .

How is it useless?  We need to have loading screens, that's a simple fact of games now days.  So we can either sit there and look at the same loading screen over and over, or we an sit in an elevator and listen to our party members talk to each other and hear what's going on in the universe.

You believe the elevator ride is a background loading process. So do the same background loading process on the stairs. You maintain control of your character rather then forced to stand there like a statue. List your goals for the elevators and look at it. Is the method of using the elevators useless (yes it is) instead of just coming up with a different method of acheiving your goals? This is basic design.

You list down allowing the party to talk to each other and listening to whats going on in the universe (aka radio announcements)? Things specifically noted in my post? Please read my post or i will think you are just throwing responses without thinking.

Oh yeah, i see a total of 5 fans for the OP's site. I can see elevators are extremely popular among the players. There can only be 1 result! Bring back the elevators!

Sigh, precisely my point, and some people want that back. i liked the banter, but artificially extending the ride to give the illusion of space was silly. Sur ethe transit hubs were there, but then oh look, no banter. It's like the banter could ONLY happen on the elevators, surely there is a better way.

I support Normandy elevator and the docking (airlock) sequences on hub worlds. They add much to the immersion and do not hack the gameplay into different section as the loading screens do, especially on the ship.

Elevators like those on the Citadel, or any other location (unless quick and story justified) I do not support. They're slow and boring.

So,

+ Normandy elevators

+ Hub world docking

- All other Elevators
