Well i just had to beat the demon inside of the kids body (having a brain fart..can't remember his name) at redcliffes castle.  This is the first part of the game where ive struggled a little bit.  I would like Morrigan to focus more on healing than damaging.  I would like her to still do damage though.  I was just wondering how I can get her to do this and some spells that would make this possible.  Also, ive been running into the problem of running out of mana often(I'm a mage).  I recently bought the spell where you suck very little mana from the  opposition but it doesn't seem to be enough.  Also, would anyone refer me some nice spell combinations please!! This is my 1st playthrough and im also very new to these types of RPGs.  Any help would be awesome! Thanks again, Mack.

Connor is the kids name.

To have morrigan be a "utility" type caster I have found that selecting her secondary spec as Spirit Healer and advancing frsot magic to Cone of Cold and then going for Chian Lightning to be the best combos for her to use since she will primarily cast CL and CoC before she cast's anything else. Try setting her on supporter for her tactics and since your both mages and should have minimal movement when in combat you might try setting her behavior to cautious.

But the best thing to try and do is to experiment initially on an earlier save.
If you play the PC version there is a mod that allows you to respec so you can get an easy peasy healer that will allow you to skip Wynne. But if you do that you may find yourself with heals when going against the Arch Demon and during Denerim. So, since you play a mage you may want to give spirit healer a try. It's really only usefull for the group heal and rez tho.

No, unfortuantely i play on the PS3. I left ostegar, went to lothering, and now just finished up redcliffe. Also, on the chanter's board in redcliffe, do the quests require you to leave redcliffe? Because it says the location on your map, and there isnt one. :-(

Just get her the Telekinesis and Healing line, then develop the Cold line and finish up with crowd control spells (like the Sleep line). These are basically all you need for her up until you get comfortable enough to experiment with new stuff. I personally don't give her Healing, but its a decent alternative.

The Mana Drain spell only works on mages, so it's not very useful until you fight one. The last spell on that line, Mana Clash, is very powerful against anything with mana though and is favorite pick among players.
You just need to better manage your mana. You picked a pretty hard quest to begin with (Redcliffe) with lots of enemies, so its only natural that you're having mana issues. You'll get used to managing your mana better in time.

Yep, some of those quests will require you to leave Redcliffe.
