I have a pretty high end machine, i get NO lag anywhere in ME2 even with my antivirus running and sometimes even firefox in the background.

but as soon as i run texmod i get lag in any medium to large area. CIC of the normady for example.

any advice of how to make it run without lag?

i have a 512MB ATI Radeon HD 3870 and 4 GB of DDR2 ram on windows 7. computer idles at around 550Mb used.

I have this issue too. It sucks, as I really want to use some of the mods.

yeah i spent 5 hours between today and yesterday working on new textures and now the game is barely playable.

This is usually why i stray away from things like texmod. don't really like things that have to run in addition to games.

diable UAC and any file indexing, should free up system resources and RAM.

already tried. Even went and installed the game on XP with nothing running (120Mb ram being used). I was getting about 60-70 FPS normally, then once texmod loads, in medium to large areas it drops to 30 or lower.

hell even if i just boot it with texmod with any packages loaded it still does that. Tried setting the priority higher and that just causes mass effect to crash.

i could deal with a 5-10 FPS loss, but this is a good 40-50% loss.

Worst place is the CIC of the normandy. if looking toward the cockpit the FPS idles at 25. if i turn around it jumps to 65

I get the same FPS drops. Normally, I get 40-60, but with texmod, I get 15-30.

so apparently there are no fixes other than disabling stuff, which for us does nothing. that sucks

Maybe the game isn't designed to run with mods not designed in parallel with the game.

unfortunately texmod reacts differently with every pc. With me for example it only goes down to 50 fps from 60, even when looking at the cockpit from the galaxy map. This is the price we pay to be able to customize things in the game. (sometimes things that should have been different in the first place) So the end result is:

Disable your antivirus,

End processes you dont need

Look beyond the temporary drop.

Enjoy your modded textures.

If it really bothers you that much, I suggest forgetting about texmod and simply enjoying the game in its vanilla version. I hope this helps, and if it doesnt then Im sorry it didnt.

This thread is kinda sad...

I have no problems with using texmod on my XPS 1530 and ME2 with everything at max (xcept resolution) but I can't record any type of gameplay-video using fraps so we all have our problems.

Also, try to only use Texture you really want to see in the game. Having 10 texture mods running when you only see one of them loaded is a waste of ressources, since the game loads all those moded textures if you have them "ticked".

And playing with a 1400 px res rather than 1920 px isn't such a big deal. Try it and see what happens.

@Bianco: yeah, it's just really upsetting that i put all the work into my own textures and now i can't really play the game. Guess i'll still release them for other people though. Gonna get a new video card this year and hopefully that'll help.

@Ahalazar: I have a custom built machine. AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+, 512MB ATI Radeon HD 3870, 4GB DDR2 Ram, 7 Home and XP Pro. I'm playing the game at 1280x1024 with all settings on high to max and without tex mod i easily get 60-70 FPS. As soon as texmod is activated on both 7 and XP, i instantly drop to 25-30 in large areas. Even with only ONE texmod running.

At school right now, but when i get home i'll try messing around with v-sync and some of the settings. but at this point i have a feeling that nothing is going to work which is pretty damn depressing in all honesty. damn unreal engine.

dropped all the settings of the game to minimum and did the v-sync thing and nothing. Even running at 800x600 the game lags with texmod loaded.

This dosn't make any sense. why for you two does it work perfectly, and then for me and a few other, we can't even use this program this doesn't make any ****ing sense at all.

I wouldnt really consider that high-end anymore. Dont mean to be an ass, but I dont go lower than 1680x1050, with full ASF, FFox in the bg, music playing and Fraps running.

But I have double all your hardware specs. Drop the texmods, it's not worth it.

well i know it's not top of the line, but it sure as hell isn't low end. And 1280x1024 is my monitors max (19").

And
when i was extracting textures from ME2 with texmod, i had firefox
using 200MB of ram, photoshop cs3, AIM, and MSN on, and was STILL
getting 60+FPS

Then, with everything off, even on a clean install of XP, running texmod brings a 50% loss in frame rate for no reason.

Thats why i'm so angry at the situation. That the game runs flawlessly at 60+FPS even with all
that **** running. And then by running texmod, even with only one
texture. hell i tried it with a 500k file and STILL a 50% drop in FPS.
This dosn't make any sense and shouldn't be happening. Thats why i'm so
aggrivated because you guys are running this perfectly, and for no
reason what-so-ever i can't run texmod.

I'm planning on getting
a new video card this year, but thats it. my dual core 3.0ghz will be
there for a while longer as will the 4GB of ram. but games seem to just
toss everything on the video card now so that should be fine.

Out of curiousity, what are your computers specs?

With and without texmod, my i7 handles the game easily. But my Radeon 4890 works twice as hard with texmod, as if every frame is processed twice.

Is anybody having the same issue with nVidia and texmod?

I have the same rig (i7 and Radeon 4870) and I have the same issue with frame rate.

yep... texmod lags the game horribly, especially in CIC... but all the mods are great!

just hope there was a way to optimize it >.>

I have the same problem. I wonder if it's an ATI thing. It seems to be especially specific to 3870, 4870 and such. I have i7 920 oc'd, 6gb ddr3 and 4870x2 - and you know what, texmod drops my fps to <25 on normandy cic.

Yeah, it must be some ATi **** ****ing problem (excuse my Italian). I just can't believe the bad luck surrounding ATi video cards. I have a Sapphire 4870 with a 'specific' production number which had a seriously ****ed up problem. In the end I had to flash it, but even that was problematic, thanks to Vista (or, yeah, "Windows Mojave", if anyone remembers)... And I don't wanna buy a console; playing a shooter on a console is like crapping up-side-down.

I am running on Dual 1024mb Radeon 4870 cards and 8gb of ram. But all the comments about "ATI" cards has me worried. Should I even download this mod ? I Only intend on using 1 texture mod.
I do not mind a slight FPS loss, cause I used to play MMO's on a comp built in 2000. But if its choppy as hell, why bother.

And yes I intend on playing at full settings.

test confirmed. I consider my comp to be top end and the lag spikes really make the gameplay choppy in large areas. However when you zoom in with your weapon it goes away. Lucky for me i guess since i love sniping. ATI + texmod = lag.

I also get very noticeable frame loss with texmod. Is there still no solution for this?

It's not system spec related (sorry, bleeding-edge elitists).

If your system runs a game perfectly and the simple act of running a tiny mod program in parallel with it causes an inordinate plunge in framerate, that has to be a conflict of some kind.

My rig: win64 on i7@3.86, 12 gigs ram, nvidia GTX 295 x 2 in SLI

Just running this damn thing regardless of mods applied, or whether the changes they make are even on screen, and my performance is raped like an anti-demon ninja.

Changing UAC settings is not efficacious.

I think there's a very real possibility that TexMod sucks varren balls. Even the error messages are unprofessional. "Sh*t happened"? Really guys? Were you taking this seriously even for a second?

I strongly suspect it's some obscure but simple issue that would have been rapidly addressed if they'd tested it enough.

But just in case, where are ye install directories? I have mine on C (windows install) and I've noticed with some games (Failout 3, namely) it can cause bizarre issues that are only remedied by putting the game on a non-windows drive . . . a shuffling act I'm too lazy to do right now.

WHY CAN'T MY DRIVERS JUST PLAY NICE?????

And I was so looking forward to all those pretty black rifles . . .
