Dang it, I think Fiona gives her amulet to Maric when they part after their battle in the deep roads, I think this happened somewhere in the Korcari Wilds when they came out of the Deep Roads through the mysterious tunnels, and Maric must have passed it along to Arl Eamon with the baby. Yes, the amulet glowed, I do remember reading that. I do remember that Fiona as badly injured and she was sent to Weisshaupt for the grey warden mages to help cure her. Had something to do with the Architect and that Enchanter' brooches on how she was poisoned.  I remember Fiona gave her amulet to someone.

1) You said earlier that Fiona gave the amulet to be given to her child.  At that point, how did she even know she was pregnant?

2)  How does a glowing amulet (and I think they were described a broaches in the book) become "this silver emblem of Andraste's Flame is riddled with cracks..." (description of Alister's mother's amulet from the game)?

Again, I'm not saying you're wrong for sure, just there are plot holes you can drive a truck through no matter which side of the issue you come down on.  To paraphrase the old agnostic cant: 'I'm unsure of everything, except that I'm likely to remain unsure... (at least until Mr. Gaider tells me one way or the other)

I remember reading something about Fiona's amulet when I read the book. I've just spent the past couple of minutes reading the last chapter. No, it doesn't say she gives it to Maric for the baby. I thought she did. Ok, why does Alistair's story in the game coinside with an amulet? Heck, maybe Maric had two bastard children. We know for sure he had one with the elf/mage in the deep roads, that is certain. My, my intrigue.  Please forgive me,  I own a couple thousand hardbound novels, and I might have gotten this story confused with another.

Ok, also went back and read on situation in "Witches" hut with Maric. She gives Maric full details on the blight. Now if they bump uglies in the hut it doesn't say. Loghain is outside and probably assumes they did. We are not told that they do. I'm going to read this book again to make sure I've got the lore down before the game and refresh my memory on the Archtiect.  The book doesn't say if it is Flemeth or not.  This is near the beginning of the "The Calling" and Maric and Loghain are talking about the meeting with Duncan, and Geneieve.  That meeting is where Maric agrees to lead them to the tunnels of the deep roads.  A different entrance to the deep roads from Orzammar.

The flip side to this argument is, of course that if Alistair already does exist and was born before Rowan died, then Maric would know about him when he's presented with Fiona's child in The Calling.  That scene is written from Maric's point-of-view and so you'd think that when Fiona's child is revealed to him, Maric would immediately think of his other illegitimate son, fostered with Eamon at Redcliffe, even if he didn't say anything to Duncan or Fiona...

Maybe Maric's fostered so many illegitimate children by that time that it's normal for him to forget about them pretty quickly after they get sent away somewhere. Image IPB

Qalan, the brooches are what the Orleisan Enchanter, and the Architect poison Bergen, Geneieve, Fiona, with. They didn't harm Duncan because of his rune daggers. I just read this again too.

Yes, this is correct, so if Alistair is dead, then Couslands are rightful King Or Queen.  Which actually makes it Fergus since he is still alive.  I liked Fergus.  That would take the pressure off of me and Al for heir!

Wouldn't marrying a Cousland strengthen Alistairs claims to the throne then? Either way it's a royal sucessor. Plus if you fail in the baby making department, your brother better get over his grief quick smart...

It doesn't have to be Alistair's baby...

Technically, yes. Marrying a Cousland would strengthen Alistair's claim. Since he's well.. A bastard. Bastard children usually don't have much of a claim to the throne, unless all of their relatives are somehow killed off. But marrying a Cousland would give Alistair more political pull, and it wouldn't be unusual at all.

I always thought it was kind of awkward that marrying Alistair was up to you. It's like "ALISTAIR WILL BE KING, AND I'LL MARRY HIM." "..You will? Wait. Aren't I supposed to ask you to?"

And the being a failed baby maker thing makes me angry. Seriously. Male Grey Wardens can have kids. Why can't female ones? :crying:

Because two Grey Wardens together don't usually produce off-spring, this he explains. I'd be darned if he was going to fandoosly again though, once was enough. He's mighty peeved after you anounce your engagment too...

Oh, so long a Anora's recognized as being queen in my game (Continue not letting Alistair become King, IDRLP, continue not letting Alistair become King), I'll be fine. It's not like he comes back to life when you're a City Elf or Dalish Berserker/Reaver who wants him dead from the moment the two meet and is tears-happy when Anora finally calls for his execution, even though my character doesn't ever actually cry because BioWare didn't program any such thing... Or maybe I should have signed up as IDontReallyLikeAlistair...?

Anywho, I don't see why relationships like that wouldn't move forward. I mean, if you let Alistair become King and you played a girl and married him, then if Awakening is right on the heels of the main game (and who's to say that seven months later isn't right on the heels? Everyone who lived through it is likely still thinking about it), then they just weren't married yet, or if they were, then it's just not brought up. That where the role playing comes in. If it's not mentioned, fill it in yourself!

I'm not sure the lack-of-being-queen status is as alarming as the reported lack-of-being-dead status that may occur in some cases.

He can just be peeved.  I'm the daughter of Byrce Cousland, and I've keep him alive and have avenged the GW's and Duncan at the Landsmeet, so he can like it or lump it.  After Anora stabbed me in the back not once but twice, no way was she getting that throne.  Not happening, and I'll get revenge for his nasty comment and make him sleep with Morrigan which he did seem to enjoy; to bad the unseen hand won't let me take revenge on him so I can have a fling while on my next mission. Image IPB
