Loghain isn't half the man Alistair is, he betrayed Callian his own son in law and king, and by betraying him his daughter, and his own country that he said he loved out of some old hatred!!! So how is he better then the man who has every right to be hate Logain and become king, but doesn't want too, which makes him a far better man and King then Logain could ever hope to be!!!...

I think he promises her a cushy life or something in his personal quest.

I dunno. I just started a new game of DA: O and saw the cutscene again. I'm not sure Loghain's troops would have made any difference. In fact, they could have caused more harm than good as there were no Grey Wardens left. Therefore there would be many more potential broodmothers and ghouls and if the Archdemon were to appear, it would not be killable. As in my first playthrough, I'm irritated that Cailan placed all of the Wardens in the riskiest possible position.
Loghain definitely made mistakes in his waging of the war, but it must be admitted that he was not informed of the Wardens' essential role in ending a Blight. And even that aside, going into the valley would have simply meant more dead troops with no discernable difference to the Darkspawn ranks.

I've spared Teryn Loghain every time but even so I don't understand why anyone would have Alistair executed.

Small kittens have been oppressing the rage daemons for centuries, but everyone only ever think of those damn elves!
Execute Alistair for the good of the oppressed underdogs! Rage daemons unite!

Oh, but I killed Loghain in enough creative ways to obliterate anything you could possibly do to Alistair. In fact, I think I shall do it again for good measure! And his purple-bug-eyed head will roll yet again!

Well, I just want to go get some Bella Brew. If I can do that, I don't care how many times they resurrect my warden.
Is it just me or does Bella Brew sound like a euphemism lol

Nonetheless, on my latest game he didn't promise Goldanna anything - he in fact concluded she was a money-grubbing harpy and left her to rot. B*****.

Alistair is awesome, and simply the thought of executing him gives me pains of anguish. That said, I don't think Loghain is all bad - misguided and delusional, yes, but not evil. Nonetheless, I can't really justify betraying guy whose stood at my side the entire game, through thick and thin. Heck, the guy even managed to change my city elf's hatred of all humans, which is no small feat.

Do this in all my plays.
