I like city elf for a rogue, you even get the second best dagger in the game for free that can only be aquired by a City Elf. Plus rogue boots right at the start. To me the dalish elf is more of a warrior.

Jsachun- if your auto attacks don't hit, you have a terrible build. They should hit almost all the time, any misses should be rare for a rogue.

Plus, the weapon talents for dw are more for warriors, rogue just need stuns, momentum and auto attack and they are demonic damage dealers.

I was wondering whether or not riposte is necessary. It's helpful because of the stun, but should you spend talents on it?

Yes. it's very effective but don't get it right away. Early game, with momentum and dueling running, you won't  have much excess stamina for it, so use dirty fighting instead. Pick up Riposte sometime after the mage tower.

I'd rather a strength based rogue because dex based dodging & evasive actions don't work while your are in the process of attacking so the rogue still take a lot of damage in combat. Therefore its always best to wear the heaviest armor possible to counter this.

Amazing how much misinformation can be packed into just two sentences.

Check link below for strength attributes.

Even Bioware in game says that strength is an important trait for rogues.
Besides why settle for a thief when you can be an armed robber.

I've finished the game as a strength based DW rogue & only difference in combat I saw between the rogue & warrior was that warriors managed more hit due to precise striking. Rogue ended up managing 84% hits & my DW warrior is at 100% at the momment.
