I will absolutely not buy an expansion which cripples the game by making sure that items I have acquired or bought get lost, just because the devs think it is too expensive to include them. Well, let me tell you this then... It is also too expensive for me as a customer to invest in any of your future DLCs and expansions, because I don't want to lose the time and money I invested in the current DLCs.

I won't be buying The Awakening either. I like Dragon Age fine, but the lack of support for simple bugs like Dex/Daggers and now the honest pre expansion expectation of a lack of support this upcoming product seal the deal.

I'll wait 'till the original is brought up to snuff before I go on to the next.

Starfang does not get imported. While I know many of you see it as a great and/or powerful weapon (which it is in DA:O), it quicky becomes "out-powered" by new weapons in Awakening.

So enlighten me, while I doubt Starfang (or any other DLC items) will last long - you made that clear a few times, what happens when you import a PC with DLC weapons/armor equipped? Will she start naked and barehanded? And if so, will I get replacement gear on my fist assignment - or should I bother to go back, load an old safe, equip "vanilla DA" items, and import that safe game?

Still, I'm sure some people will spend a lot of time patching it into Awakening only to come to the same conclusion. Posted Image

It's not the point if an item is powerfull or not - the point is, we paid extra for it, and people, especially in RPGs, tend to collect things - like unique skinned weapons (Starfang?) or pretty armor (Warden Commander/Cailan armor?), or anything other memorable. So, honestly, this is no make or break my Awakening, there are more important topics. But it's, at least for me, a bad design decision - how do you want to advertise your future DLC? You really think people will jump for another "Go back for the kings armor" tagline?

For me, power is not everything. For example, I had Lillian wearing a Chasind Robe for the entire game because it looked good on her. I could have given her better equipment, but it served her well. Furthermore, the armor's low stats made ler low priority for the enemies, who preferred to focus on my heavily armored Warden, instead.

Also, besides Starfang, I'm also going to miss Winter's Breath. I had Wynne weilding it for the entire game, and I never felt like switching it out for another staff, even if enemies were immune to the cold... If was a good staff...

Bioware doesn't realize that starfang isn't "just a weapon". It's the weapon of the warden, that slew Archdemon, it's the weapon that Archdemon has been slain with... It's not a blade, it's freaking LEGEND! Blade made of material fallen from heaven saved the world.

WE WANT OUR STARFANG!!! keep all the rest, whatsoever, but don't take this one from us :(

Don't give us that complete bull**** Bioware. We want the DLC armor for sentimental reasons. You've created a ROLE PLAYING Game, and have sold DLC, which has only sold because of the gear (the actual stories in them are crap). You're now too lazy to import the DLC. Why not simply recreate the exact gear in the expansion, and require you to own the DLC to get them.

This is absolutely pathetic. We all know they'll be outclassed, that is ridiculous logic. If the DLC gets outclassed, then the original gear will be outclassed even sooner.

Yes, this is what I understand, that you have to load a safegame and switch to "vanilla DA" items, who you even may have sold, and make a new safe and import that. Such a GREAT way to break immersion...Posted Image

Sigh. These threads always make me so angry. As others have said over and over and over many of the special items have sentamental value. I also worry about the naked import, but that's a secondary concern for me.

I realize that it's WAY to late for changes to made in Awakenings to have any sort of DLC item fix built in ... but dang it, it's been reported by Bio that they are working on this for a patch. It really bothers me when we get another Bio person bascially implying that this will be left to the community for a mod style fix.

I want to buy Awakenings ... and may yet ... but I really want to see that DLC patch first.

Starfang is my favorite weapon. Even if it get's outclassed I'll still wield it due to it's sheer sentimental value and it's unique look. I also want armor to match Starfang's unique texture.

I'm sure Bioware solving the issue for one item would entail solving it for all the rest. This would be the benefit of an official patch versus the ad hoc modding approach.

Part of me wonders if the reason they aren't going to be included is the release date. EA, or as I like to call it, the T-1000 Video Game Company, sets their release dates in stone. If it isn't ready by that date, it's released anyway. Hey EA I still have my copy of Hellgate London chilling out on my shelf.

Anytime EA absorbs another game company into its giant metallic folds, the quality takes a huge nosedive, as games are released at the bare minimum programming time.

I kinda feel bad for the dev's more than anything to be honest, as someone who has a limited programming knowledge.

I guess I should sell my Cousland family sword, since, yknow, it gets outclassed almost immediately.

Sorry, had to throw that one out there.

But Chris with that logic, we might as well start Awakening in the buff, because all the standard items we found in DA:O which were NOT DLC Items would also be "Out-powered".Posted Image

I think that it's one thing to say

"Guys we have a technical problem with DLC items importing. To make up for that we are making sure to put plenty of new / better gear in Awakening and we are working on a patch to get the DLC working."

It's entirely different to say

"The items in Awakening are better than the DLC stuff so you don't need it. Someone will probably make a mod to get the DLC items working anyway."

That first one is customer service oriented. The second is arrogant and tells us that Bio is putting the customer's desires second.

I think I'd feel ok about losing the DLCs if seconds after my naked warden has made his rather embarising appearance in Awakening, a suit of - equally as pretty as Warden Commander - armor & Starfang's sexier sibling both fall from the sky to land in a sparkling bundle of elation at my character's feet.

For some reason me thinks that aint gonna happen however...<_<

Hence the frustration here.

Since players could come to that conclusion on their own, it's a bit weird that Bioware saw the necessity of disabling all the DLCs in Awakening.  I somehow doubt you start off with gear better than Starfang, so the reasoning doesn't seem to hold water.

Nailed it!

The first one says 'We're aware of your concerns and will address them as best we can'.

The second one says 'Your concerns are silly'.

While fellow forum goer are free to call the DLC concerns silly, it's probably not what BioWare's official rep want's to go for.

I'll buy Awakenings when the DLC problem is fixed by Bioware or when the price drops by fourteen dollars...unless it takes longer than the Mafia 2 release date, in which case my gaming budget priorities will be adjusted accordingly.

I loved Winter's Breath as well. However, you can buy a weapon called Wintersbreath from the magic shop in Denerim, its one word instead of two words, and it is the same weapon but with one extra stat on it (though its not enough to make it 'better' IMO). I do not know, however, if it is vanilla or not... maybe it became buyable in Denerim if you bought the DLC and missed the loot.

I still feel obligated to point out that this post hoc reasoning is irrational.  I'm sure all of the DA:O weapons will become "out-powered" in Awakening at some point ... but BioWare arbitrarily chose to rob of us of our most powerful weapons while allowing us to import our level-one starting equipment.

Please stop repeating this argument -- it's internally inconsistent, inherently irrational, and indicates you think that your customers are stupid.

The Q&A, while repeating this argument, at least made an effort to give us an actual reason: "We didn't feel like doing the programming."

This.  I seriously wish Bioware would stop feeding us a line on this and just come out and say "yeah, ok, we pooched this one, we didn't feel like doing the extra coding, our explanations makes no sense, sorry"

For what my opinion is worth on the matter, I think that their various project teams need to work together rather then isolate themselves when they're working on the essentially the same game. If the models for the DLC items were in the original game but locked until purchasing the DLCs themselves, this wouldn't be an issue to begin with. For future installments, they should include the prim files that they intend to put in DLCs but the only problem with that is, it gives PC users with toolkits access to DLC models without purchasing the DLC. Obviously though, and what I think occurred is that since this has been in development for a year and the DLCs take relatively little time to create, they didn't transfer the prim files as they made them. From there, it's just the same switch as any other item.
