Am I the only one who wants Thane to die in ME3?

Don't get me wrong. I'm not one of those guys who decides he hates a character for no good reason and then daydreams about their death.

In fact, I thought Thane was great. His lines were top-notch and there were plenty of them despite whatever gender you played (same can't be said of Garrus and others). There was not a single instance when I thought I would want Thane to die in the final mission.

However, it makes it pretty clear he will die in Me3 no matter what and I will feel pretty cheated if he doesn't.

Thing cut me off for some reason.

But what I finished saying is that I will feel pretty weird if Thane just finds a cure after the game makes it pretty certain he will die.

Sorry about that being cut off.

Its pretty certain Jack's doomed, too. You think she should remain that way, too?

Well its not that I hate the characters. I liked them all. But for Jack I don't know.

I just felt like with Thane they tried to make it very clear there was no hope for him. I didn't get the same vibe with her. That's just me though.

I would be disappointed if they let Thane live just for the sake of a happy end.

She's suffering neural degradation, probably due to the experiments performed on her.
Actually it's quite amusing how the love interests parallel each other for both genders.

A lot of people take that neural degeneration( I think it was degeneration?) as her being sick. You read about it when getting her upgrade. I am on the fence about this.

(Sorry if my wording is clunky; my keyboard is acting up. Kinda funny considering my job is as a C.C. typist at a local FOX affiliate. :D)

I would like Thane to die because I think having him survive would just seem so contrived and such a blatant attempt at fan service.

I think for the sake of maturity and loss the devs will have us witness Thanes death on his deathbed. dont tell me that wouldnt be a bit traumatizing.

You gotta admit that Thane's more weird looking than Jack, though... Then again, just my opinion...

Yeah, I noticed that, too.  If they made them in pairs, do we get to keep them in pairs, or are we stuck with just one of the pair?  Frankly, I prefer Thane to Jack in that case.  Thane talked to me without accusing me of coming on to him.

From a narrative standpoint, I would certainly feel cheated if Thane's health didn't at the very least seriously deteriorate by the time ME3 comes around. They made a lot of fuss about how long he had left and how the Hanar are still many years off from finding a cure, and to just simply wrap things up neatly and cure him would feel like the ultimate cop-out. Not saying it can't be done in a tasteful manner, and if anyone could pull it off it would be Bioware, just that after all the hoopla they made it would feel like a let down in my opinion for him to just be miraculously cured later on. If they do decide to go down that route I hope they at least make him visibly suffer in some way up until the point where you save him, and have the eventual cure have several side effects that will adversely affect him until the science can be perfected.

Don't get me wrong, I love Thane a lot and all, but as a writer it just bugs the hell out of me when these things are wrapped up so nicely. It's like, why even bother hammering his deteriorating health into our minds so heavily if you are just going to completely cure him at a later date? It makes me feel cheated for even worrying about a character in the first place when that happens.

Frankly, they shouldn't have made them both dying. It's terribly weak.

I think it would be best for Thane to die of his disease, Shepard should be present for this and it should be a moving moment if you choose to make it such, or a chance to be a total douche for renegade's.

I know a lot of people liked him, but you cant just have every problem in the game disappear because you want it too. Thane is not a character that started out one way and then the devs made a writing mistake that needs to be corrected, his disease and soon to follow death are an important part of what his character is, and where present from the moment he became a part of the story.

I am no writer by any stretch of the imagination, but I agree.

Thane should head back to the Citadel and continue patching things up with his son. To spend the little time he has left with family

actuall I'm more concerned about Morin dying at the beginning of ME3

he might not have the death sentence disease of Thane, but the way I understood it, he's already really old for a Salarian...

and *that* would actually really give m a gut wrenching feeling

still Thane dying wouldn't exactly start things off very happily, but letting him live would just spoil things, so... I'd rather be sad, but happy about the game, than happy because he lives but angry at the writing... if that makes sense

I forgot about Mordin, good point.

I think I heard he is above 40 years old, which means he's got one foot in the ground when it comes to Salarians.

It looks like they gave a lot of the new squaddies illnesses and/or reasons to die in the next game (I.E. Thane, Mordin, possibly Jack), maybe so they don't have to worry about as many dead characters possibly being on your squad.

While it might get trite if 'miracle cures' were passed out to everyone (Thane, Jack, Tali, Joker etc) I would love it if they'd put it into the player's hands.

For example, imagine if you could task Mordin with one and only one research project in ME3. Do you cure the Quarians? The Drell? Someone else? There is only enough time to complete one. So you get to pick. That would allow for some incredible replayability options while still maintaining a sense of tragedy.

Mordin isn't really 40, it's just the human equivalent or something... Like, Grunt isn't actually 22 (but one year old I think).
