Sex with aliens is a major detachment from science fiction in the direction of Tolkienism.

Evolution favors certain characteristics like bipedal species, vocal cords, etc which is why most of the species in Mass Effect are humanoid.

I do find inter-species sex weird, though.

Hasn't been established that Asari don't actually look like human females?
That's a gag.

I can understand mating with an asari but the other alien romance options were just ridiculous. I did Tali's romance just for kicks and words just can not describe how odd it felt. I saw Garrus's romance on youtube. How can anyone take that relationship seriously? Thane's looked to be the best out of the three, but it still looked very weird to me. I
Yes, I also find it silly, complete nonsense even by the standards of softer SF, and *including* the Asari, who've been retconned by the bachelor party, but where it's still unexplained how they can keep up their mind control through FTLcom.
(This opinion should be no surprise to anyone who's read my rant (sort of) about exactly this on the same forum).

Seems like a pretty standard space opera trope to me. I mean, it goes all the way back to seductive Martian princesses or whatever.Zulu_DFA wrote...

All right. Then it's even worse. I won't repeat my long post on this topic, it should be enough to think a little about it to recognize its utter stupidity. The Angry One wrote...

It's sci-fi, the Asari wouldn't be the first unlikely alien race and won't be the last.
If it's a good story, who cares? Honestly you might as well dwell on the fact that FTL is scientifically impossible.

Turian, Drell, and Quarian - they are all humanoid shape, which is undoubtedly attractive to the human eye. For Turians, Drell, and Quarians, humans are "their" shape as well.
Humanoid shape isn't nearly enough to justify attraction... because some of them have three fingers, multi-colored skin, non-human facial features, non-human body features...pretty much everything that makes them aliens as opposed to humans, that's what is undoubtedly unattractive to me.
But to each their own, ne?
