I did Tali's romance just for kicks and words just can not describe how odd it felt. I saw Garrus's romance on youtube. How can anyone take that relationship seriously? Thane's looked to be the best out of the three, but it still looked very weird to me. I

Here's a topic we haven't seen before. How is Asari any less odd? Embrace Eternity indeed.

Turians go with Asari all the time, Asari aren't very physically different from human females so no.. Garrus isn't weird in that sense.

Elcor and Hanar. That'd be weird.

I agree with the OP and the reason why an Asari is less odd is that their biology lets them scrog with non Asari. Plus they're the most humanoid looking of all the aliens.

No, sir, you are not the only one.
Sex with aliens is a major detachment from science fiction in the direction of Tolkienism.

Whoa whoa whoa...you are excluding the Asari? They are the most alien creature in ME after the Thorian. Asari may look like human females but a human and a krogan have more in common than a human and a Asari.

Least this isn't a "scrog" thread...

Hasn't been established that Asari don't actually look like human females?

Turian, Drell, and Quarian - they are all humanoid shape, which is undoubtedly attractive to the human eye. For Turians, Drell, and Quarians, humans are "their" shape as well.

None of the aliens are actually related to each other in Mass Effect. The reason any of them look similar is due to convergent evolution.

Evolution favors certain characteristics like bipedal species, vocal cords, etc which is why most of the species in Mass Effect are humanoid.

I wouldn't say they're silly. If anything, I'd say the asari are the most silly.

I do find inter-species sex weird, though.

Yes, I also find it silly, complete nonsense even by the standards of softer SF, and *including* the Asari, who've been retconned by the bachelor party, but where it's still unexplained how they can keep up their mind control through FTLcom.

(This opinion should be no surprise to anyone who's read my rant (sort of) about exactly this on the same forum).

They haven't been retconned. It's a gag, listen to what the Turian says at the end.

Seems like a pretty standard space opera trope to me.  I mean, it goes all the way back to seductive Martian princesses or whatever.

All right. Then it's even worse. I won't repeat my long post on this topic, it should be enough to think a little about it to recognize its utter stupidity.

He just says that they're ruining the Asari for him.

It's sci-fi, the Asari wouldn't be the first unlikely alien race and won't be the last.
If it's a good story, who cares? Honestly you might as well dwell on the fact that FTL is scientifically impossible.

Humanoid shape isn't nearly enough to justify attraction... because some of them have three fingers, multi-colored skin, non-human facial features, non-human body features...pretty much everything that makes them aliens as opposed to humans, that's what is undoubtedly unattractive to me.

But to each their own, ne?
