Plus FF13 is out around the same time so I'll grab that first probably before paying almost as much for an expansion but will still keep my fingers crossed for this.
So far Awakenings is sounding like a "wait and see" for me

Pre-ordered and can't wait to play it. Don't care for new romances, don't care about not being able to use DLC equipment and don't care about the price....as long as there is continuity from Origins, I'm good.
I agree, if all you want is more romance go pick up a Nora Roberts book.

Me too. I've been playing Bioware games for... well, at least a decade. Whenever Baldur's Gate was released. They've never let me down. I loved Dragon Age: Origins, and I have faith that they will give me more of what I want.
Translation: Expansion for Dragon Age? WTF GIMME.

Dragon Age was my GOTY but because I loved the characterization of my party members. There is so much dialogue recorded and so many options left up to the player that my second and third walkthroughs played nothing like the first. I'm not sure I want to go back to Ferelden so soon knowing the new party members are throw-aways and that my old mates are only cameos.
Provided there's game play improvement (not just copy pasted room-with-enemies-and-traps, that gets old even on Nightmare) and the story is decent I'll pick it up eventually. Awakenings is $5-10 more than what I think it should be and there are already two blockbuster titles hitting in March that I've been anticipating for years (FF13 and GoW3).

And from the story as we know the people you gather in your party are the new warden recruits

well to be honest..in the end all your characters go their different ways. Nobody is complaining why sten isn't back in Awakening.
Leliana and Zevran get endings that say they continue adventuring with you if their approval is high and you survive.
I, too, am on the fence. My entertainment budget is tiny, and I'm not going to spend it on something that's going to feel like a could-have-been the entire time. Not being able to continue my main character's storyline really puts me off.

PS. I admit, ...I was confused...it appears I have mixed up the upcoming expansion with rumors of a "Sequel in 2011". However, expansions usually involve building up or continuing...but in Awakening we lose companion relationships, locations, and DLC. No point carrying a character over then. We have the option of creating a new character for Awakening, but then what was the point of Origins? I have read a great deal on the forum and other sites and I believe I am not the only one that is conflicted about the direction we are going.

This product will be available in apx 2 weeks 6 days and 18 hours, I am happy with the price its what I would expect to pay for an expansion pack.

Nah, I in the "Wait and See group"...but you can stay and hang out. Besides it is easier to see where we are are at if we are all on one thread.

My thoughts exactly.13Dannyboy13 wrote...
I'm on the fence still about this. Considering it's been 4 months and they haven't even fixed the bugs from the original game I worry about the expansion having a whole new set to deal with... On the other hand, bugs/glitches aside, I really like this game and want to get the expansion for the continuation of the story and some new spells/skills/weapons etc. Most likely I'll wait and see how it goes over and if they're releasing a patch for the original first.

I mean it's Dragon Age Origins for crying out loud, Bioware isn't going to screw this up. The romances were cool but I do not care if they play a big role in this game. My only real fear is that this expansion will be too short. And I'm not too worried about that.
I guess I am concerned about bugs as well, but there weren't really any in the orignal that made things unplayable, except the ones for shapeshifting. Yeah, that one did suck, but that's the only one I can think of that stands out. That said Mass Effect (1) did have a lot of bugs that were never fixed, but overall I don't think bugs are going to be a big issue here.

I'm sorry but that is just stupid. You don't LOSE anything. Why does it need to have EVERYTHING from the old game available? Your guy is doing something else, with other people, during Awakening. WTF is it such a big deal that you make new friends? Come on guys, this is a stupid ass arguement.
If you romanced say... Leliana (like I did). They didn't say you break up with her or your relationship is totally ignored. It just isn't part of this adventure. She (or whomever you are pissed isn't returning) isn't glued to your side. You tell me that you've never left home to do something (work, vacation, spring break trip, etc) without your mother (Wynne), brother (Alistair), and girlfriend (Leliana). I mean come on...
DLC gear doesn't transfer? Well guess what??? It doesn't matter!!! It will be replaced inside 10 minutes of game play with COOLER stuff.
The point of Origins??? How is that even an arguement? You have the OPTION of creating a new character to experience Awakening a different way. OR you can continue YOUR character that you put 50 hours into by playing Origins.
Seriously, you all have issues if these are the paltry reasons you don't want Awakening.
If you liked Origins the odds are VERY HIGH that you will like Awakening. Quit complaining and play it.

This game makes it sound as if it is a crucial part of the ongoing DA sotry, so that alone sells me. The choices in DA:O lead into DA:A, and those choices all bundled up move over to DA2, much like ME1 to ME3.
After reading all the FAQ's, forum threads, and following developments on the DA:A homepage - it would appear that very little, if any, of the choices you made in DA:O carry over to DA:A. Now whether the choices you will make in DA:A will carry over to another Dragon Age expansion (or even over to DA2) remains to be seen.
Regardless, I have no plans to add DA:A to my gaming collection, and do not feel my DA:O or future DA2 experiences (if I decide to buy DA2 that is) will suffer by my not playing DA:A
