My first choice was the shotgun and I "tested" it during the "platforms fight". The result was unpleasing. Infiltrator is not a class designed to close quarters battles. It's an interesting way of playing such class.
I reloaded the game and I selected the Widow: it is wonderful! I'm starting to love this rifle. I'm playing on hardcore and it kills many enemies with a single shot.
I really like this weapon. I still like Miranda more than it
I'm curious to see how it can work combined with a Revenant Assault rifle.
If I start a new game using a previous Mass Effect 2 character I should gain the weapons I obtained in the previous walkthrough... right? So I should have the Revenant and I could get the Widow during Collector Ship mission.
Can any of you confirm it? Thank You
I used disruptor Ammo with Widow rifle during Haestrom mission on hardcore and it killed many shielded Geth with a single shot.tonnactus wrote...

Widow + AP + 0/5 upgrades kills LOKIs and Vorcha in a single headshot.
For tough shielded enemies you should be using Tempest SMG + Disruptor since that shreds shields to peices even with no upgrades. Quickest/safest way to take down a YMIR is to have SMG + Disruptor hotkeyed as last weapon and Widow + Tungsten Rounds as current weapon. Shoot down shields with SMG, switch to Widow. 2x shots takes off all armour and then either do another 2 shots to kill (headshot sets off nuke) or switch back to SMG and fully auto with impunity since Disruptor stuns them.
I can't think of a single reason why you would ever want to take Assault Rifles when you have the SMG. Once you get burst firing down its deadly at close/medium range.

I'm currently playing as Infiltrator, it's my second play as infiltrator and 5th Mass Effect gameplay, and I'm thinking about the upgrade to select during Collector Ship mission.
The previous time I selected Assault Rifle training only because I loved Assault rifles during my first walkthrough as Soldier.
This time I'm thinking about every possible option: selecting Assault Rifles again, choosing the Widow anti-material sniper rifle or getting the shotgun training.
The Widow is very alluring but it's limited ammo capacity is instilling doubts in me.
The Assault rifle training could give me additional firepower when, and if, run out of thermal clip for sniper rifle, since the SMG tends to be not very effective from mid/long range.
The shotgun combined with Infiltrator's tactical cloak could create very interesting scenarios. Moving undetected near enemies, killing them with the eviscerator shotgun.
The most relevant problem with "cloaking warfare" becomes clear when you a forced to fire many rounds, reducing the effectiveness of the cloak itself. Shotguns should allow one, or two, shot kills.
Note about difficulty level: I think I won't play again on Insanity but I could change my mind during gameplay. Currently I have selected Hardcore.
What do you suggest?
Thank You for your assistance.
I went with Widow and did not regret my decision. When I was dealing with boss units and the slow moving bombing guys, it made dropping them really easy because it only took me 2-3 shots to drop them if I combined armor pierceing shots/warp ammo while I am having my other guys take on the other guys in the process. also the Harbinger units were wimps with it because whenever they do "Assumeing control" or "We are harbinger" transformation routine, I apply the ammo, aim, then fire and they are doomed in a shot or less.
I was contaplating a machine gun or shotgun but since I already went with the extended stealth sheild in place of assassin shield, I seemed to have made the best choice not to pick up shotgun. if I had gotten assassin shield I think I would of been able to make a good decision into taking shotgun so I can turn the stealth on, run behind a guy, then kablam! Headshot. But I was wore torn between Widow and assualt rifle. I found Widow a excellent choice and made me a valuble assest to my team of Miranda and Garrus/Grunt/and Jack.

Don't be afraid to try different things. Don't feel you're playing your class wrong just because you didn't pick what everyone else picked. All this 'you picked this class therefore you must choose this and play like this and spec like this' stuff is crap. A class is what you make of it. And all that being said, if you try your different options out and find Widow to be your favourite, go for it.
Personally I find the Widow's ammo too restrictive and prefer the Viper. Going with the Viper instead of the Widow not only gives you the extra ammo of the Viper, but it gives you the option of another gun to carry around and all the ammo that gun carries. If you're a crap shot like me and/or tend to wait around too long and get a lot of extra enemy spawns, having all that extra ammo is real handy.
For bonus weapon, the AR's job can be mostly performed by the Viper or Tempest, so I go with shotgun. It's not something that gets used all the time, but it's just really nice sometimes to have the option, and tbh I think it's a more fitting weapon for the Infiltrator than the SMG. There's plenty of vids around showing what a point-blank shotgun blast to the face can do. Now imagine what it can do with a 75% damage bonus.

There's so much Widow fanboyism here, I can't help but worry that too many people haven't seriously considered there are other options. That irks me. It reminds me of how everyone worshipped AI Hacking as the ultimate bonus power for Infiltrators in ME1, and so few ever seemed to question it. Yes the Widow is great and much fun can be had oneshotting the commoners, but there are other effective and powerful options out there and some might just suit a few people more than the Widow.

Well I have been messing around with the other guns while i'm running other characters (had a vanguard with sniper rifle training). I just found Widow to be the best out of the 3 minus the dlc guns. I do like the first one as a strong runner up but I do hate the constant ammo kickin. It was also kind of one of my issues for my infiltrator cuz I have missed some key headshots or the ai enemy would duck at the last second and i'm like "Fudge pops!" so when there were still 6 guys left, I had to get out of cover to go scrape for ammo which made me fall into deep crap cuz those 6 guys are shooting me in place of my allies. The second gun I did take for a spin once but when I was headshotting the YMCR mech bosses in the factory when you chase down Harkin, I was like
I am not forceing my opinion on anyone
Besides I belive I said before that I am having router problems to getting the DLC's might be problematic to me because of the constant "Disconnected from Xbox Live, due to the account change you must return to the main menu" routine, I am AFRAID to get any of the DLC stuff.
I might try but if I get a "DLC error" like I am with MASS EFFECT 1's "BRINGING DOWN THE SKY" DLC error issue then i'll say no to the DLC guns.
