For some reason I'm experiencing an unusual issue during cutscenes and conversations where the voices sound muffled and distant. Ambient sounds and voices are fine, however.
My soundcard is an integrated Soundmax HD Audio chip on an Asus P5NSLI motherboard and has the most up-to-date drivers.

Have you tried to choose the force stereo in the sound menu? I don't know if it will fix your problems, but It can't hurt

I actually had that option selected as I'm using headphones. I'm going to try it with that option deselected, though I have a nagging suspicion that it won't help.
