i have the traps, dwyns help etc... the enemies just keep spawning and spawning... it seems stuck in a loop or something of the sorts, anyone else experienced this and know the fix?  i've fought waves for about 10 minutes now, same 6-7 darkspawn from below and 1-2 from up top non-stop.

It took me several tries but I finally got this. I eventually but my party's backs up against the chantry to protect my mage and was able to survive long enough. I think I went through 20 pots though.

I need a healer in my party bad.

I was down to just my rogue when I killed the last one so yes it takes a while. Run around so the other npc's get involved.

I had to pull the enemies from the town square, to the Knights mob by mob. Took forever, extremely frustrating. Less of a tactic and more of taking advantage of weak AI.

The battle lasts a little longer I think.  After a while the enemies stop coming and due to some bug, there are a few stragglers that don't come to attack you so you have to go out to kill them

Nope same here. I tried about 10-12 before I was able to pull it off. I noticed where they were spawning out of (docks) lit up an inferno spell to soften them up a bit before they got to us. I also couldn't have done it without Wynne.

This happened to me but I lasted 40 mins before realizing something was horribly wrong. I sat next to the bottom killing wave after wave and blew through over 20 poultices before noting it didnt seem right, ran to the top, ran back down and only one guy was left when I had been chased by 6.
reloaded the battle after I had initially beat it, fought 1 wave, ran to the top, came back down and killed 2 more waves at the bottome using maybe 2-3 poultices and it took me 10-15 mins. Definitely a bugged section.

Yeah..this battle is nuts. I mean come on...seriously?

I sure do hope it is bugged. In my game they just would not stop spawning..I had 10 or so surrounding me at the end of my last try, with everyone else in town dead.

I really don't want to have to go to easy mode for this, but I think I have no choice if I wish to continue on in my game.

Any tips or suggestions for this would be greatly appreciated.

Well I think I will have to back up and come at it with a healer and/or more healing poultices.  On normal with just a handful of poltucies and no healer, I am being gang raped (sorry for the use of such a negaitive term).

A better spell choice selection would also help.  Morrigan needs more seasoning at this point.

I would very highly recommend putting this stage off until you have Wynne. Of course, if you've already come into Redclife, then you're pretty much boned unless you have an earlier save file...

I finally beat this with keeping my mage in spider form, then pop out to flame a group and back into spider form, still was a good 15 min fight

I know this is an old post but maybe someone can help me out.

I killed off what I believe to be all the enemies but it's just stuck. When I talk to the knights they "be on your guard" so I guess there has to be at least 1 left but I searched the entire town multiple times and can't find anything. I go up the pass where the green mist is and the gates are open but I can't go through. Am I beat here or is there a lone enemy roaming around somewhere that I missed?

This was a really tough fight for me the first time around as well. I ended up pulling out to one of their spawning points (which seems to stop spawning them here), resting and then luring another group to their deaths.

I've reached this point in 2-3 other games as well since, each time it's been easier. Not sure why. If you've been able to get Cone of Cold for Morrigan, it makes things much easier (as is pretty much standard throughout). Or if you've got Heal, try and keep some of the militia alive as well, to make them divide their attacks. One time, I even managed to save Murdock from dying.

First play-through, I was having trouble with a couple of the major battles... this was a bad one. Second and subsequent play-throughs, I knew where to stop and find endless stacks of potion ingredients for sale. Hit Denerim for bottles, Elf encampment for Elfroot, click create a billionty times, and go in with swords blazing.

It helps to revisit the tactics of each character and make sure you tack on a "If Self>status health>less than 25% use Item: health poultice lowest strength.

I don't care how high you level up your characters, the poultices all seem to over-heal. :/

Beat it on nightmare without losing any party members or townsfolk. I really don't see what you guys are worried about.

I did get Wynne beforehand so I was able to have her drop heals where necessary to keep the militia alive. But that's the only really different thing that I can note.

My first runthrough on Hard mode just had Morrigan with basic heal spells instead. I lost a few townsfolk in that one, but the fight overall wasn't hard.
