Disclaimer: New squadmates DO NOT REQUIRE RECRUITMENT/LOYALTY missions. If someone thinks, that every new squadmate requires a reqruitment mission to be recruited and a loyalty mission to get to full capacity, go play Mass Effect One, where zero squadmates out of six had their personal reqruitment/loyalty missions that deviated from the main plot (Oh, Garrus and Wrex had their personal quests, but they were completely optional, like ME2's N7 missions).

Variant

1. Turian. Garrus himself says he is not a good turian. We need a good one. As badass as the Turian Councillor or the Refund Guy shopkeeper. Also, we haven't seen turian biotics yet, and those may have some unique fancy tricks.

2. Asari. All we've got so far is a nerdy virgin and a post-menopause nun. We need one that just decided that ass-shaking is enough and it's merc time! This doesn't mean Liara is off the crew. Two young asari ... mmmm... BTW having a sexy asary in the current squad should provide a "charm" bonus during negotiations (strange how they haven't come up with such a thing yet.)

3. Salarian. Mordin's nephew sounds cool. Joins in to save the Galaxy and get a good reproduction contract.

4. Batarian. Aria's Anto would suffice, but he needs to be able to tell the batarian version of the Skillian Blitz / Torfan / Mindoir story, and about Batarian history, culture, biology -- all the Codex things. Gives "intimidation" bonus to Shepard while in the shore party.

5. Human. Alliance soldier. I mean a real space marine, with no daddy issues of any type. Like the one telling the new recruits about how badass Sir Isaac Newton is. Like Corporal Jenkins, who was lucky enough to live past his first goof in the field and learn from it. Not a love interest. Very formal with Shepard. Not so fond of Ashley/Kaidan though, because of their second-guessing Shepard's Cerberus affiliation, but accepts everything Shepard says with "Aye-aye, suh" and "Suh, yes, suh!"

6. Quarian. Kal'Reegar would be awesome. Too bad he is expendable in ME2. Hence, another working class quarian, not a freaking royalty with racial inferiority complex and a daddy issue that only piled up in ME2.

7. Drell. Uh... Since we've had one already. Feron qualifies for being Liara's buddy able to pilot spacecraft. Possible Shepard's wingman (along with Joker) for fighter space combat, if BioWare makes it (as they should).

8. Trumps out #2, but unlikely, I think. Aria T'Loak herself.

9. Maybe a character from ME:Ascention or ME:Retribution. Kahlee Sanders or reapertech-augmented Paul Grayson. A new quarian squadmate could have had a cameo in Ascention.

Note: New squadmates should have self-sufficient and strong enough personalities not to require an odd babysitting "loyalty" mission to get them to their full capacity. They also should not prefer some remote rat holes as their hiding places, in case Shepard needs a new most awesome crew he ever had, but be ready to join along the main plot railtrack.

Note 2. Of the old squadmates Liara, Ashley/Kaidan and Legion can join up in the retail version. Garrus, Grunt, Jack, Zaeed as free Day 1 DLC. Others - cameos (if alive) at important plotwise locations. Tali - Migrant fleet (pardoned if previously exiled). Miranda and/or Jacob - Citadel/Omega, working for TIM on a secret mission. Mordin at some STG research facility, leading collector/reaper study. Samara vid-mail: trains new Justicars back in Asari space, warns a renegade Shepard to watch himself / is happy with record of a paragon Shepard. Thane - dead, natural causes.

Note 3. BioWare should give a option to reject any recruitable character, and give an opportunity to fire (a Carnifex at) any of them afterwards.

I don't want any new squadmates in ME3. All your squadmates in ME3 should be surviving squadmates from ME2 and ME1.

A vorcha.

But, no really..just..no. They should stick with what they already got from the first and second game.

No.

I want ME3 to be the grand finale, where we have our entire squad, all stories are brought to an end. No new stories. I want closure and conclusion.

In all seriousness, I think ME3 should be all about closure.

If we are introduced to a million new squaddies, then we won't know were they end up (and even if we do; it will seem rushed).

By keeping the old squaddies, we can see how our choices affected them and really get a good feel on how they evolved throughout the story.

Ferron's dead. And you met a turian biotic, he tried to enslave all sentient life.

IMO, the best thing is some new party members, some old. I don't want the squad to get much bigger, but the mainstays like Tali, Garrus, Liara, I want to keep. Wouldn't mind some new faces, but I agree that I want the band back together for the final showdown.

No new squad mates, 'nuff said. I've noticed from other posts that for some reason you're mostly against a glorious return of the past rosters. You should know that you are in the overwhelming minority. Basically everybody would much rather see further and proper development of current characters than a cheap attempt at an easy way out from doing it right, which is exactly what having new characters would be.

Well, this thread failed miserably, which I am happy to say. The op and anybody else that has the same bright idea should learn from this and never mention 'new' and 'squadmates' in the same sentence.

I want a han...dammit. Okay, fine, I want an elcor you can take cover beh...oh, sorry. Okay, okay, how about THIS. A volus that stays on the ship and-OH COME ON.

You for sure didn't exclude Vorcha, though. Still want one of those guys. Also, Shiala. Those are the only two new squad mates that I would be *happy* to see in ME3. But I really would prefer the squads from the first two games to make a return over anyone new.

I like the crew I have, it would seem a huge setback to start over to recruit and retrain a whole new team.

A failed thread is still a failed thread, no matter how annoying you can still try to be with the silly 'new squadmates' idea.

Personally, I think a couple of your Me2 buddies will be bowing out, Samara, Grunt, Thane, Zaeed, maybe Mordin. It would be neat to have Kaidan/Ashley and Liara rejoin, but I think it's entirely possible we'll get a new squadmate or two, though they may well be established figures in the canon already.

A failed thread is one with zero response. Thanx for posting in my thread about the NEW SQUADMATES.

Garrus was affected just great. For half a game he was calibrating something.

If there's a new squadmate, please someone we already knew in previous games, like Aria (just an example, I'd rather have her as a NPC like in ME2) and early in the game, please.

I have my whole team from ME2, and I only want Wrex back, Liara if you insist, nothing more.

Thane will certainly still be there since he is a love interest, most probably a cure will be involved. Samara said she will always be there should you ever need to call upon her, Shepard was a very strong influence on her and a good friend, so I can very well see her by his side in ME3 since he'll obviously need all the help he can get. As for Grunt, you are his Battlemaster, he obviously needs to fight under your command as per krogan traditions. Mordin is too much of a fan favorite to be written out casually, so if Bioware are smart they'll keep him too. The only one that can bow out without too much effect on the value of ME3 is really Zaeed.
