if an asari gets introduced, it needs to be either Aria or Shiala. no exceptions.

And Gianna Parasini, even though she is not an asari. But she is my romantic interest from ME1&2!!!

I see at least 3-5 new Squaddies in ME3, just for the people who lost a few in the suicide mission. You should have the option to recruit them or pick up or keep current living Squaddies from ME 2 or Recruit the 2 Holdouts from ME1 (and Wrex will not be an option if he lived in your game)

While I'm hoping that we'll keep the majority of our previous squaddies, I wouldn't mind having a couple of new ones.

Most of the crew in ME3 should be returning squad mates from the first two games. I would like to see only about 2-4 new characters. The main two I want to see is a Batarian and a female Turian.

I'm quite pleased with the number of folks who shouted a resounding no.  So let me say it again.  NO.  I want returning squaddies.  New squaddies should totally be secondary, coming in ONLY if there's enough time and resources after the old squaddies have been implemented.

OP: Interesting idea, but if we're going to have new squadmates in ME3, I'd want them to be kick-ass NPCs from previous games. Something along the lines of Aria, or Kal'Reeger (you mentioned both), or Captain Kirrahe.

4. Batarian. Aria's Anto would suffice, but he needs to be able to tell the batarian version of the Skillian Blitz / Torfan / Mindoir story, and about Batarian history, culture, biology -- all the Codex things. Gives "intimidation" bonus to Shepard while in the shore party.

A Batarian SIU (Special Interventions Unit, batarian equivalent of the special forces) member would be great.  After reading about that Blue Suns training camp ran by ex-SIU members, I wouldn't mind having one of these in our squad.

People do realise that there still will more than likely be new squadmates in ME3 whether they like it or not, don't they?

No, I want a good story. I want Liara/Kaiden or Ash back, and other returns.

I'd love for them to just concentrate on the ME1 and ME2 characters, personally, but at the same time, concessions must be made for the people who played really, really badly in the past two games. If only previous squaddies were used, they'd only have, worst case scenario, only four characters to play with. So I think there will probably be three or four new characters, at the very least. That'd give a range of 7-21 characters (I'm counting all characters that could potentially appear, including both the human love interests, Morinth and Samara, and Kasumi) to potentially appear in ME3. Might be a little high, but since only a few of those characters would actually have to be recruited, it'd mean less dialogue.

I say: however many discs it'd take, I want to see as many of the old gang as possible.

I want to see many of the old ones return or at least get big roles/closure for the series. But yerah I'd like some new ones too. Although I think you should have any all squadmates at or near the beginning of the game. ME3 shouldn't really be centered around the squad IMO.

I don't want any new squadmates in ME3. All your squadmates in ME3 should be surviving squadmates from ME2 and ME1.

I think two new squad mates in ME3 is enough.

Is it true that to have Shepard survive you need at least two ME2 squad mates not to die at the end?

If so, that gives a minimum of

Those two you kept alive

Two new squadmates

Kaiden/Ashley

Liara

I think that'd be swell.

I'd like the following:

The Savant.

A human savant, likely not as much dialouge at first.
But he burries a secret: His mother was a slave in an illegal baterian eezo-mine while she was pregnant.
When she escaped with a group of slaves, she died and gave birth to him.
Because of this, his brain contains more eezo than any other biological entity yet found.
To be his really self, he needs to project biotic fields arround him, that work like biotic nervous-systems...which is kinda obvious, when he runs arround.
Also he just talks to persons who have a strong personality when he "unfolds", otherwise his biotic abilities could possibly make the person insane(if he'd speak to an asari, she'd become insane on instant).

Since he is extremely intelligent, he can upgrade Shepards equipment like mordin does.
First, when he still hides his abilities, Shepard could wonder about the engravings on the equipment.
But when the Savant finally shows shepard what he is, the engravings will start to glow, because the savant concentrates his biotic abilities on them.

Ingame this could be implemented by shepard talking to the savant like:"I'd like to concentrate arround 50 percent of your powers on the protections of the squad. And 25% each on weapons and powers."
Resulting in a buff that should be balanced enough that it doesn't become overpowered.

When I started reading this I thought, "ENCHANTMENT!"
BTW I support the OP. Have all the old companions go off and do important things because of their involvement with Shepard. The experience helped them grow out of the role of Shepard grunt to leader of their respective people.
NEW SQUADMATES!

I think if there's a gap inbetween game times, Mordin and Thane would be dead. Thane of his illness, Mordin of old age. Because I think there won't be any new squad mates who havn't been introduced so far, Thanes son and Mordins nephew would be great squadmates to add with past ties to the game.

The final chapter isn't the time to introduce new players, it's the time to wrap things up.

The easiest way to wrap things up is to kill everybody. Therefore, many ME2 squadmates are pretty much wrapped up. Doesn't make sense though. ME3 is bound to wrap up "Shepard vs. Reapers". It won't wrap up the ME universe. It will give it a new beginning. A post-Reaper universe. It makes perfect sence to add charachters that don't die no matter what.

Epic truth.

I can see possibly 2-3 new squadmates but I don't want anymore than that.  I want my ME2 team back and augment them with any returning squadmtes from ME1.  I want to see our current cast of characters evolve as we finish the final chapter.

So if ME2 survivors are ME3 NPCs, they are not there or don't wrap things up?
Don't be ridiculous, people!

"I don't want them as NPCs, I want them only as squadmates" = "I want my pets back".

Who knows what they plan to do in the future with the series. All we know is that ME3 is supposed to wrap up all the plot points brought up in this series.  I doubt any character that had an important role in the game will feature in a new series.  Anderson and Udina, Hackett people like that would most likely be all.  this is the final part of Shepards story and his former crewmates were a part of that story.  I've never read or seen a trilogy(besides godfather, that story was never meant to be a trilogy, it just ended up that way)were the supporting cast was made irrelevent and a completely new cast besides the main person were brought in.

I don't want them as NPCs, I want them only as squadmates" = "I want my pets back".

I don't want old Squad, I want new = "mommy I want a new puppy, I'm bored with this one"
