in my opinion mass effect 2 tops me 1 in so many ways. I know alot of people think that the rpg elements should have stayed but i think that thats what makes mass effect 2 so special its unlike any other game ive played im just hoping me 3 brings make the mako and makes it more fun and more dialouge trees seems like me 2 didnt have as many

I like the gameplay and the streamlined rpg elements, but I think the story falls very, very short of ME1 and ultimately that makes it the inferior game.

Eh, for me that's kind of excusable since they weren't trying to make a purely plot-driven game like last time. ME1 and ME2 are pretty much on two ends of the spectrum, one is more plot driven at the expense of it's characters (ME1) while the other is more character driven while at the expense of the overall plot (ME2). They're two completely different, and ultimately valid, ways of telling a story when you get down to it. Though I'd be lying if I didn't wish ME2 had a bit more 'OOMFF' in it's overally plotline as well.
Hopefully ME3 will be able to combine the two different types of narratives into one cohesive whole though. Come on Bioware, we know you guys have the skill to pull it off!

ME2 will make more sense when you play ME3 and realize all the recruitment took place in the previous game, and jump straight into juicy story

Yeah, I figure that's the case as well and if there are any new squad members in ME3, it'll be as you move along on the important stuff and their side mission will tie into the overall mission in some way.

The story is admittedly not AS good as in the first game. HOWEVER, it is still a fantastic and epic story and a great game. The gameplay is much better though. In ME 1, I felt like I trudged through combat to hear the story, while in 2, I enjoyed both the combat and the story

Though I like ME for it's universe, and ME2 definitely adds to the different species and thus the universe. I still think it falls short of ME1. ME was just a brilliantly created game of both universe, plot and content. I'm bummed at the changes and overall think ME2 is an inferior game. But still enjoyable

I agree!  ME2 gameplay, graphics, and stremlining the inventory and equipement is hands down better than ME1.  ME1 had a much better story than ME2 though.  Hopefully ME3 will have a better story...

I liked Mass Effect 2 better than the first, mainly because of the gameplay improvements. The characters were also superior in the second, but the main plot did take a backseat to all of the improvements. Overall though: Mass Effect 2 > Mass Effect 1. Both are among my favourite games ever however

Why divide them?

With the character import feature they are essentially one game.

Yes, I'm sure Bioware is weeping at the critical praise and high sales they are getting because a few fans thought this game didn't live up to the 1st.

"Oh but a vocal minority of fans say that Mass Effect 2 was worse than 1! What shall we ever ever do?"

It's really hard to go back to Mass Effect 1 after playing Mass Effect 2. While I would agree the main plot is superior in Mass Effect 1's, Mass Effect 2's gameplay is much more satisfying.

Mass Effect 1 would make a better novel but Mass Effect 2 is a better game.

oh yah my dad can beat up your dad! take that!  I dont think anyone is dissing ME2 on this...Posted Image

I played video games since the late 80s and I can say the games that stick out the best have the best story but gameplay wise probably not all that great nowadays.  10 years from now ME2 gameplay mechanics are going to be archaic, the only thing worth remembering is the story. but this is my opinion.

btw I may just play ME1 again and Ill see if I can get through the annoying combat system.
