I forgot all about Allistair.. Was he after the death of Rowan?
If not just lol.. Katriel wasn't enough? He needed to have fun with a poor maid also?
Somehow I assume Allistair came after the death of Rowan?

There are some discrepancies in how old Alistair is supposed to be too. I think they intended him to be older at first concept but he got younger by the time the game actually was released. He seems to be about 21 or so to me.
My take is that he's a fair amount older than that, but there seems to be wide spread disagreement on the forum regarding his age. I think it's going to take a word from the writers to settle that one. That's something they probably won't do until we find out who Fiona's child it as they probably want to keep that up in the air for now.

He's confirmed in-game as younger than Cailan and there's zero mention in the books of any child born to Maric before Cailan. And apparently when the toolset was released there was something about Alistair being 32 years old and the writers disputed that.errant_knight wrote...

I don't see how the writers could make him older than early 20's without cramming him into a different story.

That's only if you assume that Maric's every indiscretion is detailed in the books.

Heh, no wonder Loghain's so pissy - he gave up the woman he loved to Maric and the bastard cheated on her. That's got to hurt.
Well, technically that isn't true. Rowan and Maric were betrothed, that is, they were suppoed to get married by pre-arranged marriage. Loghain was never supposed to factor into it, but then all that stuff went down in the Deep Roads where everyone revealed their "true feelings" towards each other. What I am curious about is the woman that Loghain does end up marrying, we never hear much about her really.

Other than she was called Celia and was a cabinet maker's daughter, no. Does she figure in the books at all? I'd be interested to find out what happened to her (given that she's dead).

Yes, but if that's the case, why make reference to a bastard son in the books at all? So, there's either another bastard son BioWare will have to characterize in a relatively short period of time, or Alistair was lied to about his mother. The simplest answer is usually the correct one. And again, there are the writers disputing the age in the toolset.errant_knight wrote...

Besides the story of Alistair's parentage we hear ingame there's no hint at all that Maric was indiscrete.errant_knight wrote...

Some people argue that it would be out of character for Maric and some argue that his reaction to the little blonde boy at the end of "The Calling" was genuine, very unlike a man who has sired his second bastard.

I'm not saying that's it's true. I'm saying that we don't know that it isn't. We won't have any real idea until the writer's reveal it. Until that time, your guess is as good as mine, and vice versa.

Loghain's wife is only barely mentioned in the books as a "fine" woman in the The Stolen Throne and as a "perfectly lovely young wife" in The Calling.

I have to ask are people here thinking that Fiona is Alistair's mom? If so what of his half sister?
Then she's just the daughter of the woman Eamon and Maric decided would make a fine decoy. Fiona tells Maric to tell their son that his mother died in childbirth and that she was a commoner. If Eamon had a pregnant serving girl in his castle who did die in childbirth (which we know he did, because of Goldanna), she would be the perfect candidate for Alistair's "mother".

People do, but I see no reason to think so. For one thing, it would be a wasted opportunity to have the child of a powerful mage turn out to be someone other than a mage. Of course, if they wanted the possibility of Fiona's child ruling Fereldan, that would make sense, but sitll.... It would throw away some significant storytelling possibilities.
Me. I think Alistair is exactly what he believes he is, the son of Maric and a star-struck maid.
I also think that they've purposefully made Alistair's age ambiguous. He looks older than his early to mid twenties. In fact, the looks older than most of the other companions. We also know that he was initially planned to be older than he is now--an experienced Templar. But his description could easily apply to someone younger.
There's also the fact that people seem to find his virginity surprising. There's nothing particularly surprising about a very young man who's lived in a monastic environment being a virgin. The older he is, the more that surprise makes sense.
The fact that none of the possible rulers seem able to have children sets up a succession issue down the road, which leads me to believe that there is another Therin line out there somewhere. It may be through Fiona's child, it may be through someone we don't know about, but I see trouble ahead.
