I saw people comparing Dragon Age with Oblivion. It makes sense, because both are RPGs.
But... WoW?! DAO isnt´s even online!

Dragon Age is closer to Dark Age Of Camelot than WoW. Daoc has the same kind of setting and art as Dragon Age.Andre-Figueiredo wrote...

I attribute it to a lack of gaming experience. That's not meant to sound high and mighty...we compare things to what we know. I personally would never compare DA:O to those games, because any similarities are a result of common ancestry. Neither WoW nor Oblivion did much of anything new...they took most of their design ideas from older games.

I see it having nothing in common with Oblivion, as it does not put me to sleep.
As far as WoW...um...both have types of elves, dwarves and humans. Both have rogues. Both have experience based systems.
Other than that...I got nothin'.

They're wrong, obviously.
DA:O has nothing in common with these games besides the high fantasy theme.
Anyone who says otherwise should go ahead and sit on a rusty nail.

The Elder Scrolls (Oblivion is just part of a series) comparison makes no sense. I dislike that the success of Oblivion essentially drove the entire industry to produce nothing but single-character first-person-perspective RPGs with realtime combat. By contrast, Dragon Age seems like a nod to old school RPG fans who have felt ignored for some time now.

I don't see the similarities with either. DA definitly brings an interesting style to the table.

DA:O Has alot more in common with the old infinity engine games than it does with WoW or Oblivion. Including the old infinity games flaws.

More like DA + Oblivion = WoW, but whatever.
There's something really off in that comparison too. Maybe DA + WoW = Oblivion? But no, Oblivion has nowhere near the story of DA AND WoW. As much as I hate the game (for basically all faults of every MMO ever and not specifically) WoW has very rich lore and good story-telling in quests, if you chose to read them. To bad it's choice and not form. *sigh*

In object-oriented pseudocode terms:
[DA:O] is a [TacRPG]
[Oblivion] is a [ARPG]
[WOW] is a [MMORPG]
[TacRPG] is a [RPG]
[ARPG] is a [RPG]
[MMORPG] is a [RPG]
In other words, while all three are "objects" (games) belonging to different "classes" (sub-genres), these are child classes to the "base class" (genre) RPG. As such, they will inevitably share many common elements.

Dragon Age's combat mechanics and interface is a lot like WoW. It's just different in all the other areas.
Oblivion just happens to be one of the few fantasy RPGs on consoles anyone remembers.

I have to disagree. Oblivion is one of the few "PC" RPGs anyone remembers on consoles, but there are plenty of console RPGs on consoles everyone remembers (e.g. Final Fantasy).

Okay... one of the few Western RPGs anyone remembers on consoles.
My point was in the lifespan of the 360 there haven't been that many RPGs worth remembering. So any new RPG at the moment gets compared to Oblivion.
