This.  ME2 is the best videogame I've ever played, and I had a Colecovision when I was three.

Then they are not true fans.... true fans will stick it out...

I am sticking it out, I only said I myself that I was disappointed (Still looking forward to ME3 btw) but there is some die hards fans who gave up on 'em (Revering to some of the members I saw).

I was not refering to you just that you said "lost some diehard fans" Those are not diehard/true fans.

You can spin it around as much as you want. People here ARE RPG folk. This is BioWare forum mate.

RPGs like ME are now more about Playing a Role rather than statistics. If you want the former, play ME. If you want the latter, play Baldur's Gate. BioWare has RPG folks covered either way.

People need to grow up IMHO. Expecting BW to produce games that sell less just to make some of their fans that are not willing to accept any change at all happy is a little immature.
If BioWare would have listened to those so called die hard fans only they would be out of business by now.

This. The simple fact is game developers are at the mercy of game publishers, who provide most of the money required to make a game.

In return for that, publishers want to know that the game will sell as many as units as possible, which increasingly means the developers have to compromise on the games they make to cater for as wide a player base as possible.

I'm sure there are many people at Bioware and elsewhere within the industry who'd love to try and cater for your every specific desire OP, as maybe that's the type of game they'd most like to play as well, but if they went to any Publisher these days and said 'We want to make BG3 - it will be 200 hours long, huge amounts of dialogue based options and romance dialogue options that put the ME ones to shame, oh and turn based combat!' the publisher would turn around and say 'No.'

So be grateful that Bioware are still able to produce games of such quality at all, rather than moaning about an evolution that cannot be changed.

I support this.  I hate when people over generalize a believe to being a point of fact, in their minds.

Nothing is true.  Everything is permitted.

If ME1 is the pinnacle of RPG's, then you need to play more RPG's.

It was innovative at the time, but it's not without it's flaws.

And remember, liking a broken mechanic doesn't mean it is any less broken.

You can spin it around as much as you want. People here ARE RPG folk. This is BioWare forum mate.

ME1 is/was both Statistic and Playing a Role, ME2 was just playing a role which to me makes ME2 a RPG Lite (aka a Shooter with RPG elements) and ME1 an RPG (With Shooter elements). so I don't know how you can say ME as a series wasn't once a statistic game.

1.  There are statistics in ME2.
2.  There has already been plenty of threads arguing whether a game requires huge amounts of stats and inventory management to qualify as an RPG, or if it's more about the story and character interaction.  For all that is holy and unholy, do not bring that debate to this thread, for all our sakes!  *Grabs Magician* Damnit man, you've blown it all up!  I'm a forumite, not a miracle worker!

Didn't BW say that some of the skill were redundant and not needed? IE fewer skills. But anyways. ME has always beeen about the choices and story telling. the shooter part is just icing on the cake... it can be changed and streamlined. I mean most of the skills in ME1 were redundant.

ME1 was "statistic" RPG? Now I really think you are just a troll. Or just someone who doesn't deserve to call himself a BioWare fan or even RPG "folk".
Seriously.

Go play Baldur's Gate, then come back and say that again.

Your troll-fu is weak.

I believe why ME2 failed for a good portion of us is because of Bioware's focus on the mainstream crowd though business wise it is prefect for making quick money but overall you guys lost some of your die hard fans on this switch of focus. I'm a fan of you guys and I love your work but ME2 disappointed me and many others. I hope on your next project you guys focus on giving your die hard fans a great game than trying to please every crowd out there.

ME2 is a great game but its not as great as its predecessor for the fact that the focus was different.
<_<

you're assuming all "die hard" fans agree with you. While there are some things I felt were lacking and would like improved, I liked the majority of the changes. I am hardly a "main stream gamer". I mostly only play rpg's or strategy games.

Also, to those acting like bioware "sold out" in some manner, even if they did in your eyes, the only people that **** about selling out are those who never had the opportunity to sell out.

I mean jesus, peoples like or dislike of the story aside, the only **** difference is FAR BETTER combat, and removing the loot inventory system to a more streamlined set piece upgrade system and no mako, which most people clamored for getting rid of, you get what you ask for.

you still get to tackle missions that you currently have in any order save for major plot points.  and really an argument is the mission areas not being part of the actual world, well save for the mako missions (which were all the same), you could never revisit the mission areas in ME1 either. i.e. once you leave you cant go back to exo geni on feros, peak 15 on Noveria, etc etc.

So ultimately the definition of a good rpg according to people with this idea ME2 isnt an rpg, is loot.  It is usually an aspect of an RPG, but hardly the definition of it.   I am pretty sure no one would be arguing about the "RPGness" of ME2 if the upgrade system was replaced with random loot.  which in all seriousness was horrible in me1 and yes, after you become a spectre which is like right away, the only thing to do is keep buying the current spectre gear unlock as you level, and sell, omni gel the rest.  It was pointless.

I have played many RPGs in my time...

I have chosen ME1 as "The Dragon Age in Space" (Bad choice now that I rethink about it) I should of said KotOR instead. My Bad. :)
