hi there

i'm about to create a new mage and am just wondering if i can get all spells in the areas above because i need all primal, spirit and creation spells to get the achievement for it.  last time i was a mage i managed to get the whole of the entrophy spells but i was concentrating on getting all the spell combos, but had to use wynn n morrigan for a few of them.  I'm going to get all the spell books first so just need the money via the potent lyrium cheat so need about 11 gold or so to get the recipe.Posted Image

What you can do is save up 16 points then save the game, spend all of them to get the achievement, reload your save and do the same for the other schools

but otherwise, you can't get all spells for more than 2 schools (you need 48 points to do 3 school, and i don't think you can get more than 30 points in the game, so it's even less than 2 achievements).

35 is possible in game.

3 to start @ 1st level

24 from level ups (but only if you get to 25th level ... 22nd or so seems more common)

3 from achievements (the Joining, Ashes, & Landsmeet)

5 from books (though 3 is easier for most folks)

I'm thinking that you can get 2 more for some reason, but can't remember where.

You're probably going to have to use the infinite elfroot turn-ins and/or respec mod to get the 36 talent points you'd need (assuming 36 is possible).

Don't you get one by making a deal with the Desire Demon? I've never done that, but thought I read it somewhere.

Desire Demon gives you a book. That's one of the 5 I counted.

This.

I've already did it and it works out good.  You can use Tomes to get it before level 16 or use tomes to grab a few more spells.  Also the 2 spells you get in the beginnning can be picked from any category.  It is not necessary to isolate it to one group.

I did this on nightmare and I used Winter's Grasp, Arcane Bolt, & Glyph of Paralysis and didn't have any problems.  Although I did use tomes to fill out the Shapeshifter line as soon as they were unlocked so I was using Shapeshifitng a lot.  I still was able to save 16 points by lvl 16.

One of the interesting things about mages - well it's true about all classes - is the dilemma of the chain. I.e. you see an absolutely delicious spell at the end of a spell chain, but before you can get it you have to take three crap spells beforehand. It would be really cool if there was a hack or mod to take a spell before you take the preceding ones. So I could take stinging swarm without having to take wisp-grease-spellbloom beforehand.

(You CAN do it, but basically only by using the console "addtalent" cheat.)

I find a lot of spells in the mage arsenal more or less useless, but you take them not so much because you want them but because you want what comes AFTER them.

If I were free to always pick at any moment a mage spell I wanted, even without having the 1-3 spells that precede it in a chain, I could very easily have ALL the mage spells in all four schools I want in a single mage with 30 talent points. Alas, it doesn't work that way.

Which is why it doesn't work that way...

...although I am an advocate of making all spells and talents useful when possible rather than just being a prerequisite that you never actually use (except possibly for one or two times that reveal how bad it is).

Yea, all spells have there uses.  They are for different playing styles like supporting or attacking, but most of them can be consistantly used.

Really? Which? The only really useless ones I can think of are the ones Mana Clash makes obsolete when you get it. Well, Disorient is pretty much useless, I'll give you that, and Death Magic/Syphon seem to kick in too late to be useful. Last time I played a mage I had the problem where I didn't have any action bar slots for my spells, and I couldn't get rid of anything because I used them all.

take the whole primal line and you will be fine, you will have enough points to get crushing prison and healing

For the record, Disorient can't be resisted. I have no idea how to use Mana Cleanse properly once you get Mana Clash though.

It can be helpful against enemy mages.  I've had Mana Clash resisted, but Mana Cleanse can be a good backup.

Yhea, mana clash gets resisted every now and then. Mana Cleanse is useful in those cases.

Again, it depends on your playstyle. I'll agree there.

For some, Grease is a very useful spell. I never used it. I only took it so I could take Stinging Swarm later. That kind of thing.

And yes, some spells do obsolete others, is there any reason to use Walking Bomb after getting Virulent Walking Bomb? I couldn't see any.

Actually I use walking and virulent walking bomb with my char. usually, virulent only is good, but you can kill your team easily if something goes wrong, so I'm using the regular one in melee (yeah i'm a bit sadistic and a creazy bomber, usually only my mage is standing, but cleansing aura takes care of injuries). Second, one walking + one virulent in a large groupe (not on the same guy obviously, and not too close) kills everything, the virulent spreads like a plague with the frist explosion and the regular bomb triggers the others (who were not too close) when killing his guy, easy chain kill in less that 5s.

The seriously useless skill is weakness, because you will usually get miasma (to get mass paralysis) which does the same but aoe and sustained so always active.

2 groups of archers/enemies, as well as double DoT on bosses.

Grease is another one that is good to knock groups of archers down and then hit with grease fire.  It's not a final solution, but it relieves pressure in a fight and may force the archers to move which gives you even more time.

Why bother doing that at all..... an achievement is no longer an achievement if you do it like that.
If you have to resort to exploiting instead of really getting the achievements the way you know they are supposed to be had, then you are basically screwing your own game over. Choices have consequences, that goes for talents as well as the content of the game itself. That is how its supposed to be. I think  :P

I can see little reason to see grease as a brilliant spell, but bonus spellpower is always good to me. My mag is just missing 2 primal spells and then I'll have the achievement! Then I can do the other schools.

So the chains are interesting as they are, but it'd be "cool" if they weren't. You sure "cool" is the word you want there?  I'd have gone with "lame" myself.

Well the biggest tip i can offer, is to download the raven respecc mod, save ur game beforehand, get the respecc potion, and knock urself out (only works with PC)
