I'm wondering if Precise Striking is worth using while tanking? Or am i better off not using it?

In my HNF game, both my PC and Alistair are sword and shield with massive armor which makes either of them a decent tank. But PC with precise striking does MUCH more damage than Alistair without it. So I suppose its up to how you want to play things.

Sure, why not. Just turn it on after you've used a couple specials--it doesn't hurt until you get above 100 attack. It adds 10 attack (~10% chance to hit) and slows your attacks by 10%, so after you pass 100 attack it's not worth using. Before 100 attack you are increasing your chance to hit by more than 10%, after, less than the 10% you lose in attack speed.

Just wondering what you are meaning by 100 attack? Do you mean the stamina?

No. Precise Striking adds 10 attack, and slows your attack rate by 10%, yes? At 90 attack, turning on precise striking adds 10 attack, bringing you to 100. That's an increase of 11%. At 100 attack, you still get 10 attack (for a total 110). That's an increase of 10%, but since you are also attacking 10% more slowly, your net gain is 0%. Well, there is a minor increase to crit chance, but imo not worth the upkeep.

No. That's not how it works.

You hit if:
Random Number between (0, 100) < AttackRating - DefenseRating

AttackRating = 54 + AttackProperty (as per character sheet)

So, if your attack rating is 100, the defense rating of the monster is <=54, you always hit (and precise striking would be a debuff - no increase in hit rate, but you get the speed penalty).

(There are a few more corrections to the formula, for exact details look at:
http://social.biowar...hp/Combat_Rules
)

Anyway, use precise striking if you have enough stamina and miss at least 10% of the time. It's only really worth it against very hard to hit enemies.

E.g., if your hit rate was 50%, it would increase to 60% with perfect striking, with speed penalty that's a 10% DPS (damage per second) increase. If you hit 90% of the time, it would increase to 100% with perfect striking, with speed penalty DPS would be the same. If you hit 100% of the time, you get 10% DPS penalty with perfect striking.

(I'm ignoring the critical hit chance.)

Sigh. I hate being wrong, but in this case, you're right.

Well, the +Crit chance is pretty substantial... it adds +12.5% chance to land a critical at level 20 (scales with level.. at level 11 it was +7.5%)
