So... Barrier also doesn't deactivate itself when used in combination with Charge?

Damn, might have to rethink my entire Vanguard build then.

its really not the fact that you vanguard kids don't have as much shields, but rather the fact that you only recharge halfway with Charge and you can't restore your shields before charging due to the small duration or having to charge at a target.sinosleep wrote...
They still get torn to shreds in no time. when charging more than one enemy.

You keep saying this, but everone who has actually played through the game with barrier thinks that you're greatly overexaggerating (myself included). It keeps you a live for a couple few seconds in practice and it can restore your shields when charge fails, making you not die and able to scramble for cover at times when you otherwise would be killed.

If so, does the damage done to Shep during the brief moment after the Charge damage only Charge's shields or Barrier's as well?
Let's say I use Heavy Barrier, then Heavy Charge. The result of those two would be 200% shields for a minute and 300% for a few seconds. After Charging, I get shot at a few times and get 50% shield damage. Still having my Charge Shields up, I'd have 250% shields. However, when Charge's shields go down, would I end up with 200% shields or 150%?

I've posted video evidence, have you? It buys you at best a couple of seconds of survivability. For you that may be worth a 10 point investment, for me it's not. Don't talk to me as if I'm 90% of this forum going off of memory and theory crafting. Most of what I say on these forums I say cause I've tested it and have video to back it up. It's not as if I looked at the shield skills and just decided, those are dumb. I tested, retested, and then tested them some more and to ME (hence the your mileage may vary comment) the shield talents aren't worth putting any points into.

you will lose whatever you gained. if you gained 100 points in shield, you will lose 100 points when the duration ends.Kaiser Shepard wrote...
Wait, let me get this clear: let's say I use Heavy Barrier when I have full shields, I would have 200% shields before Charging. Then after either a Heavy or Area Charge, I'd have 300% or 275% shields for a few seconds?

I have to agree with Sinosleep for the most part, theres no way a Vanguard will last that long against fire.
As a Sentinel who uses barrier, i can tell you i can probably survive two clips of collector gun ammo aimed at me on insanity without losing my shields with all the right upgrades. I could only do this on a Sentinel because my bar recharges to full (it will not stop recharging until its gone to 100%, giving me a 1 second invulnerability under fire).
Vanguard simply could not do this. He HAS to select charge to keep his shields up since the duration is so short, and he only recover half his bar this way, giving him only .5 seconds of invulnerability. it is not worth it.

Obviously not everyone.
I've been testing this for hours and hours and hours. The only real use I've been able to find for barrier (for vanguards). Is during the times you cannot charge or when you get incredibly lucky and manage to get it when you hear "Can't get a lock". Personally I think 1 point should be enough for those times usually, rather then the full 10. As bringing the shields back is the important factor. If you try to stack barrier+heavy charge you will barely notice it, if at all. Against 3 enemies, it will sometimes buy you 0.5-1 second more (would not need it against less then 3 and more will kill you), but I've not found it to be reliable. It's not needed either, anything you survive using barrier+heavy charge you'll survive with just heavy charge as well.
But if you use it for a 1 point dip, I think it has some merit.

You might as well use charge for recharge IMO. your better off with using reave as a bonus talent.Dannok1234 wrote...

Meh, true enough. Guess I can better put my points into maxing my Vanguard's other powers (sans Cryo Ammo) and put the spare point into Barrier.

Enemies cut through shields in 2-4 shots max, x multiple enemies anytime you pop up,
x 12 sec (can be lowered to 9ish) global cooldowns and its not worth it, much like combat drone loses alot of luster on Insanity.
I'm sure on other difficulties its adequate.
only real use is insta shields if you dont feel like waiting to take that last shot

Besides, having a shield regen is still critical for enemies rushing you.
having a 1 point barrier however, is extremely n00b when you already have charge.

that one point in barrier is for "i cant get a lock" and against enemies you cant charge, ymir/praetorian for example, as well as the enemies up on ledges. vanguards cant pop up and shoot, no tech armour/adr rush/cloak/drone distract/curling powers, this means that you cant stick your head out and shoot for long without dying.

which is why reave is such a good bonus talent because you don't have to be out of cover and still do fair damage.Kurupt87 wrote...
