Turian Bodies, Artifacts, & Ore found on planets

So, I'm into my first playthrough of ME1 and ahve found turian bodies, ore, and artifacts on various planets. However, I cannot seem to retreive anything from them. Do I need a specific skill or party member to do this? Any help would be appreciated.

Things you mentioned are necessary to complete several collecting quests. As far as we remember there are quests to find Asari Matriarch's journals, Prothean discs, League medallions, Turian emblems and Ores for Alliance Systems.
In fact, by 'retrieving' those items, you get credit towards collecting quests.
Logging you off.

LOL! I'm just not sure how to retreive them. For example, with the artifacts I geta statement saying "retreiving artifact" with the same load screen as a manual decryption, but I always fail to retreive the artifact. Same thing with mining and turian bodies. I'm just wondering if I'm missing something or need a specif party member for this to work. THis only happens when I land on the planets. Survey works great!

If you fail to even start the minigame then there is a solution from our databases:
The problem is your Electronics skill, wether you lack it or it's simply too low. We suggest taking Tali'Zorah with you while tripping around on uncharted worlds. Also, we suggest keeping her Electronics skill at level not lower than 9.
This should fix your problem.
