Laptop doesn't crash, but hangs-up and I have to Alt+Ctrl+Del then Cancel to get back into the game - sound runs, but video doesn't. This happened with Witcher, too. Upped the memory to 4GB which is all it can hold & upgraded to Win 7. Move resolution past low & will hang-up, so I've just concluded that laptops can't handle games too well. Need to get a new desktop just for gaming.

Yes.. I believe that for DA2 I will buy a desktop in order to play

btw.. I believe instead of updating your laptop to win7 it was better downgrade it to WinXP... While Playing DA:O on XP I had only two sudden crash to desktop, but after them I restarted the game and after 10 seconds I was playing again...

Computer came out of the box with Windows Vista, so couldn't go down - only up. Vista was garbage. Win 7 much better!

Well, i recently did, just for DAO. No, not really, my old one has broken down, but hey, i'm not complaining that i can play DAO with a decent resolution and it's running smoothly ;)

May I ask which computer you bought? Or did you build? I'm trying to decide and need advice. I want something that will run great, but don't want to pay too much for it.

Of course, though i have to tell you that i can't play on highest resulution. Resolution is 1280X720 (16:9), medium details (that is, i have eyecolor and blood staints).
I just bought a package cause i'm a gaming nerd, not a computer nerd. I have an intel i3 2,99 Ghz, 4 GB memory, GeForce GT 230 1024 memory and i guess that's what important?
Don't know what you consider cheap, it  a good amount below a thousand dollars, but still expensive for me. But making a living with writing without a working PC is like...

Also My PC came out of the box with Windows Vista and HP supported them only for Vista and after for Vista & Seven... But I installed however XP.. the problem were the drivers, because on HP sites were not available... Therefore I had to go to the site of the producers of every single component, find the driver for it, download and install... It takes a lot of time, but if you know a good technician (sorry but I live too far Posted Image) you can do whatever you want Posted Image

Under a thousand dollars is in the right direction...can't believe how expensive they are! Paying a thousand or more is just ridiculous unless of course, it's your job and then I'm sure it could be a write-off as a business expense.

Do you know what is the real problem? Even if you buy the most powerful PC you won't be sure that every game will work.. I read over forums of people who had 4 processors and in order to play DA:O they had to run it only on 2 cores.. because the game crashed... Other people who had last version of the most powerful graphic card ever, and in order to play the game they were forced to downgrade the video card !!!!

Playing a game on a PC is always a great question mark, and know before playing it if it will work fine or if you will have problems and what problems is just impossible...

Under this point of view for games consolles are much more better.. On a consolle you know that you buy a game and it will work .. but I really don't like playing on consolles, especially RPG Games..

Don't own a console - don't plan on owning a console - I like my PC just fine. Glad to see they're making more games for PC. This seemed to be a dying medium with Xbox, Playstation & Wii in the market.

Well, i played DAO on XBox first. The graphics are just not as good, the gameplay is a bit different and the fights are less tactical since you simply can't copy the possibilities of a PC system.
And the videos are shorter. Not much, but for example in the mage Orgins at the beginning of the Harrowing, there are one or two seconds missing in the vid and one dialogue line. Not much, but stil. Guess this is better on PS3, cause they have Blue Ray and are forced to use the rather small standard DVD.
And the epilogue is shorter, only for the companions on XBox (you can't install game files on console, so impossible to keep track of everything or everyone, or Shale, as she is only dlc).

To my experience, the PC edition of DAO is the best whereas ME 2 is much more designed for console controls and plays way better on XBox than PC

Edit: oh, and DAO is generally pretty processor heavy, so IF you buy a new rig for DAO, take a good one.

This is sadly true, you have to cross your fingers each time you install a game it works, even when according everything you meet the spec requirements.  And if you do have problems they might be workable ones or ones that make the game unplayable.  Consoles certainly avoid this problem, though the utility a PC can give games, particularly RPGs is much better, and you have much more options (and I frankly like you prefer it).

There also mods and up till now better prices often, the PC is also very adaptable which can be useful gamewise (and your even able to get old games running through DosBOX and the like, so the PC also keeps older games alive :D)

Edit: oh, and I like Twiggles for Liso, cool name BV :wizard:B)

I play few games... no more than 4-5 games a year, maybe I play them several time, but good RPG games are very difficult to find, and I don't like too much other kind of games...therefore buying a consolle for the kind/number of game I usually play would be a waste of money... 2 PCs are enough Posted Image

Never really had an RPG game that ever played better on console then it did on PC, so PC gaming still has some life in it yet (strategy games and a few others also play better through the PC imo)

@Sam e Curlain

I agree with you.. I like much more playing games on PC and I never bought a consolle (only Sega-Mega Drive when I was a kid)

But I have to say you that sometimes, when you have a bug, and you spend hours of your life reading several forums to find a troubleshooting which work, and after that you discover that another game you had installed and was fine-working, and - after the troubleshooting you did for other game - this one doesn't work anymore you may really say "Damn I have enough of it !!! I wanna a PS3, so that the only thing I have to do is to insert the CD in and play !!"

RPGs are really all that I play. Nothing else ever peaked interest. Blame all week-end D&D games for this, I guess - just got hooked. lol

I'm a nerd, i play nearly everything has the label "game" somewhere on the box ;)

Though i have to say, RPG's are my favorite since the good old pen & paper times and then BG 1

Edit: rethinking, that's not entirely correct. The first really cool RPG i played was Moonstone on Atari. And ofc, not RPG, but still among my all-time favorites, Monkey Island 1 & 2

I don't know if someone who played Planescape Torment did ever suffer Cranium Rats Bug... and if you know what you had to do in order to solve it.. I just can say you that was really a moment when I told "I'll never play anymore a game on a PC !!! " Posted Image

Well the strategy games I've played have all been ancient world ones like Rome Total War (it's fun to be the eastern Roman emperor for instance and attempt to maintain your empire, build alliances, faiths, have rivals assassinated, have your generals field campaigns, I wasn't that good at it, but I enjoy ancient history so it was fun :-))

But RPG are always my first love, particularly story-driven ones with deep and interesting characters, and there aren't so many around, so when ever one comes up I'm super-excited :-)

And the ones I have I continue to play for a long time B)

DosBOX has also been a good find to enjoy some of the older classics again :D

@Max - Yeah I understand your frustration, had a game not long ago crash at a certain point on my PC (which is well above it's spec requirements) but nothing worked t get it working, so it just sits there, can be very frustrating

Edit: take care Vampilicious and safe drive home :D

Hey people.. I am reading the topic on main forum about patch 1.03.. it seems to be a crap !!!

They have reduced the loading time but people is complaining about:

- frequently random crashes of the game (someone said also 20 times in a session !!!)
- frequently and abnormal lag
- "strange modification" to Shale's looking
- pickpocketing partially broken

My suggest therefore for now is "don't install it"

And... yes.. Curlain you were fine:

Awakening installation will update the original game to this patch !!

The Shale bug is one that already existed.
