Generation X, commonly abbreviated to Gen X, is the generation born after the baby boom ended with earliest birth dates used by researchers ranging from 1961 to the latest 1981
that is really vast! hehe i thought the gap was smaller than that

Baby boom: 1945 - 1955 some include up to 1960, but the 'boom' was over after '55 ...
GenX: referred to people in there 20's during the 1980's, difficult to be a GenX'er if born in 1981 ... 1981 was probably the result of a wanna-be Gen-X'er in 2000 ..... I think the term GenY is now used for this ...

My dad was a war baby as well .... from WW1 !!
He was born 1916, my mum 1920 .. I have their wedding photo (taken in 1945) in my photos on FB ...
I didn't know about the post Vietnam war baby boom ... Obviously, nothing like that in Canada ... Still, any births in the 1970's would not really fall into Gen-X'er ... They would hve been too young in the '80's ... Even you just made it being 20 in 1986 ... Ahhh Twiggles at 20!! Now, that must have been something to behold !!
