1) The new party conversation system. So far, it feels kind of loney. The lacking spur of the moment interaction "when I feel like it" And getting to know you stuff is greatly missed.
2) I am NOT thrilled I have to build influence with Oghren from zero! What? He all of a sudden forgets who I am? "LAME" Oghren is a pain in the bum to build influence with as it is.
3) Feeling a tad bit lost in the city. Seems I am stumbling onto things I need to, but not really clear of my path.
4) Major Hack and Slash in the main city
These are a few points I am not diggin' much so far. Will update again before I go to bed, unless I have nothing further to add.

Well considering that large parts of the team where already working on DA2 when a smaller portion started working on Awakening this would mean roughly 2 yrs for Dragon Age 2.MaxQuartiroli wrote...
Because people knows that the develop time of Awakening was 1 year...
Therefore they think that 1 year is not enough time to dev a great game like DAO...
And I must confess you that I have the same fear...
I just hope that 01.02.2011 will be the date of realease of a 2nd expansion and to not hear talking about DA2 until winter 2011-spring 2012...
Also if you look at Assasins Creed, the first game took years to develop and was postponed many times, then the game came out and except for the first hour everyone was dissapointed with it. Then Assassins Creed 2 came out just 2 yrs later and I'm only hearing good things from it, which means that a sequel can be developed in a shorter timeframe and still be awesome.
Writing an engine and coming up with a background story/lore is a lot of work, however this has all been done. They can use large chunks of the old engine even if they want to spice up the graphics and the background story and lore are all still there all that is needed is to be added to.
Also don't forget that Awakening is an addon which means less people work on it to develop and the gameplay is usually a lot less long and detailed.
Yeah thats part of the things I was affraid of with the new system, it sounded a little bit too efficient and streamlined... getting to know people and building relationships isn't efficient!Liso66 wrote...
Well, I know most of you left for the night. However, you will see this for the morning

It's funny how people who don't know anything about developing, much less game developing, have so strong opinions on how much time is needed to make DA2. And without knowing when it was really started.
DA2 story has already been written for some time now, I'm sure of that.
I remember a comment from a ME2 developer already working on it two years before it was released. The story had already been written at that point.

I received a message that Gameplay charged my credit card yesterday for Awakening. So, I presume they shipped it or will ship it today. I should receive it next Tues or Weds.. As I mentioned, I will hold off installing it until the patch 1.03 problems get sorted..

Aye I've heard this from a few places, pretty much I feared, still it's worth what I'm paying for it (£14.73, which is just over 20 US dollars), though if it had been anymore based on what I've heard I would have waited until it had dropped way down in price. It's just not worth the price some are paying for it imo from what I'm hearing is in it.
So yep, it's about worth the 20ish dollar mark, but it's doesn't really sound like it's really from Origins in spirit, with allot of even the simple things missing (such as new specs and talents/spells not being available in the OC), making this more like a NWN module rather then an expansion.
Ah well, my only real concern now is that this conversation system seems to be the way they intend to take future DA titles, which I'm not happy about at all

Thx for the updates Twiggles, guess you are still alseep for a while after playing all night
For everyone who is already playing or will be playing Awakening shortly and has some opinion on the new dialogue system, check this thread. Right now, the lead writer is still paying attention, and if you can give a reasoned explanation what you like/dislke and why, it's worth a shot.

From what I understood this was a benchmark to find out what the players thought about this new system, so if the feedback is mostly negative they might steer away from it.Curlain wrote...

I've yet to install and play the game so I can't really comment on the conversation system yet but from the descriptions I've read it doesn't sound like my style. It sounds a little like a system that would work for games where conversations are rare and have to be pointed out, not for a game where conversations are 80% of the gameplay.

That's good. Gaider seems pretty determined to like his idea, so it's a good idea to voice your opinion only after you have played Awakening yourself and have a general idea what you like/dislike and why. Those unreasoned opinions like "DAO good - Awakening sucks" will be rather harmful than helpful in that respect.
But i guess that warning is futile here, you're all too mature for such childish behaviour. Hey, that was a compliment
And morning Lionheart

I don'tknow absolutely anything about developing yes, it's true....
I am just saying that if they weren't able to do more than Awakening in one year (and don't forget they always use time-limit as a justification for a lack of many things) I really don't know why they should be able to do something better from now to Feb 2011, since it's just.. 1 year... Did they find a magic wand, meanwhile?
And if you are right and in 1 year they would be able to do a great game this would mean that in 1 year you can do whatever you want, therefore they lied to us about Awakening !!,

The issue is. We assume it took them one year to know Awakening, could be true, could be less. And we assume they now have one year to make the new game.
But first of all, the team for any expansion is not even half the size of that for a real stand alone project, to obviously more people can get more done in the same time, aye?
And then secondly, we do not know how long this mysterious project is already in development: could be they started yesterday, after the release of Awakening, could be one month ago, could be in parallel development since one year ago.
And i tend to believe for some reasons that not only the team is tree times as much as the Awakening team, and they are already working on it for long time. And that would grant them enough time to produce real quality.
But maybe we stop arguing back and forth, my friend.
Btw, somehow you seem to have passed on your headache to me, i feel incredibly awful today

The truth about my pessimism and negativity? It's owing to my nature... If you cheat me one time I won't trust you again... Now I feel cheated.. Therefore I can't trust Bioware, yet.
Maybe they will deny me.. Well.. I will apologize then.. but for now I lost all my faith in them...

I agree with Twiggles so far, although I don't think I dislike it as much as she right now. The quests stack-up pretty fast and you look overwhelmed by all that needs to be done. If the goal was to show how discombobulated your character is because they're walking into something brand new, they have succeeded.
Oghren knows you, but your influence does start back at zero, which surprised me.
For my game, Alistair was king & you get to interact with him quickly. He does remember you and it does feel like a continuation of your relationship, so I was happy about that.
I am disappointed in the lack of meaningful conversation interactions. So far, when you click on a character, you don't have a dialogue option and so far, there hasn't been a party camp to stop at and get to know your other party members. I would think you would at least have the option at the beginning to get to know your new members. So far, no.
From a technical standpoint, my game quit on me twice - just stopped working, so save often.

From what I understood from that new conversation system discussion link that Mosa posted you can't initiate conversations with your companions, they will initiate conversations with you when something happens or when you touch an item... However I have only received my game this morning and didn't have a chance to install it yet so no clue if what I read there is an accurate description.BostonVamp wrote...

Were your crashes random or did you have them in any particular area?
I remember in DAO the crashes where only in most populated cities.... and in the damn fade

How exactly did the game quit? Was it a freeze, or CTD? Are you running any mods?

What saved game did you load? The post-epilogue save or a manual post-coronation save?

Yes, that does happen and it's kinda weird. If playing on PC, use the TAB key to find items. These will sometimes be the conversation starter. For example, watch for clickable statues. Instead of a codex description, it initiates a conversation with a party member. So I would say that the TAB key is your friend for your first playthrough.
