Awakening Random Thread Continued

I think the crashes are most likely associated with 1.03 patch bugs, hopefully 1.03b is around the corner and will solve some of the issues (crashing seems to be a frequent reported bug with 1.03, which Awakenings patches DA to even if you haven't previously patched your game).
I posted this a page back or to and might help with the other DLC items with any new PCs you play Awakenings with, it should allow you to port you DLC items in. It does make you wonder why BioWare couldn't do this themselves if a modder could do it in less then a day of Awakenings release, was it really such huge technical issue after all?

Another question for BV and Twiggles...
What saved game did you load? The post-epilogue save or a manual post-coronation save?
I think I did a manual post-coronation save. For my character I was the hero & was to marry Alistair. I had saved right before talking with everyone and that's what I loaded which gave me very good conversation with Alistair when he arrived at the Keep. I was happy with that conversation.

Welcome BV !!! Thank you for your news...
Were your crashes random or did you have them in any particular area?
I remember in DAO the crashes where only in most populated cities.... and in the damn fade
Crashes were random. One was during a conversation and one was right as battle began.

Hiya Vamp,
How exactly did the game quit? Was it a freeze, or CTD? Are you running any mods?
Program just stopped working, no warning - went to Windows message stating "this program has stopped working. Windows can see if there is a solution to the problem."

Did you patch your Origins game to 1.03 before installing Awakening?

Patch came off the disc when I loaded Awakenings. Did not download patch previously.

Thanks, Stealthmaster. Not too concerned about it, just thought it was funny. Here's my nearly naked Warden walking toward the Keep with nothing on but a helmet. lol

No Awakenings does that itself (just like it did with Vampilicious above, who didn't have 1.03 installed before Awakenings installed it)

My patch was on the Awakenings disc, so it loads the patch first before loading the game. Good news - download from disc was quick & painless.
EDIT: Man, your quick! We don't call you Stealthmaster for nothing!

That's the new Amarinthine fashion, the helmet and underwear look, very fashionable once you compliment it with the pink Archdemon boots your Warden had made after her victory at Denerim

Let me see if I can put it in perspective...played for about 5 hours with 2 crashes. Would have been ok if I saved more, which is just a problem I have playing all games - get too involved & forget to save. Game started right back up with no problems.

It's funny how people who don't know anything about developing, much less game developing, have so strong opinions on how much time is needed to make DA2. And without knowing when it was really started.
DA2 story has already been written for some time now, I'm sure of that.
I remember a comment from a ME2 developer already working on it two years before it was released. The story had already been written at that point.
I don'tknow absolutely anything about developing yes, it's true....
For what is worth, I wasn't talking about you or any other in this thread.
I am just saying that if they weren't able to do more than Awakening in one year (and don't forget they always use time-limit as a justification for a lack of many things) I really don't know why they should be able to do something better from now to Feb 2011, since it's just.. 1 year... Did they find a magic wand, meanwhile?
I'm quite sure Awakening and Origins developing overlapped a lot.
And if you are right and in 1 year they would be able to do a great game this would mean that in 1 year you can do whatever you want, therefore they lied to us about Awakening !!,
No, no, they aren't able to do such a great game in one year. What I'm saying is that they have already developed a big part of DA2, so it's more than one year. For instance, the writting is mostly done, I'm quite sure of that.
Think about this: first, it's the writers job. Once the writers have their job 90% finished or so, then starts the programmers and designers job. What do you think the writers do once they finish their job? They start with the next game. So, while programmers and developers were working on DA:O, writers were already working first on Awakening, and later on DA2.
So, if DA:O full developing lasts 5 years, Awakening 1 year, and DA2 2 years, that doesn't mean you need 8 years to develop everything because it isn't sequential. It overlaps. While some people are still working on DA:O others have already moved on DA2 because their job on DA:O is finished.

Yes, but there are other documented problems with 1.03, besides the crashing. I would rather continue my current Origins play-throughs with 1.02, than deal with a buggy 1.03....

Because those are not exactly the same items, even if they have the same description and stats. Those are new items done with the toolset and added through a mod with the stats and text copied from DLC items. Everybody can do that... on PC, and Bioware wouldn't have any problem doing that, again on PC.
But to bring the DLC items on consoles too, Bioware should have to add DLC checking on Awakening games. Now it checks RtO but not the others. That's more difficult, and of course you can't do it with the toolset.
And they're not going to add them only on PC and not on Xbox and PS3.

There is just a question.. If I am a writer would I begin immediately to write the new story? Wouldn't it be better to wait and see what the community think about the story, what it's complaining for, what are their favorite characters and so on?
Let's image for a moment we are the lead writer of Dragon Age Origins...I figured out the history to be continued in some way.. After the game is sold.. what a surprise!! There is a character which we decided to make disappear who had a great hype, and we weren't expecting it..
He/she's the favourite character of the community... Most of the players ask he/she come back... What should we do then?
