EDIT: However, not sure I'm up for another playthrough right now; unlike DA:O where I started a new game almost immediately.

Did you know the cat had some special powers? Not sure what it was, but he was clickable once he was given as a gift.
Really? I din't notice it....
BTW.. some hints for gift are not so...direct..... IE one of the gifts for Velanna. I would never be able to realize that after the hint it was that thing the right gift to make her happy...

He has been with BW for quite a while. He was a designer before head writer. So he can not be that young.. which raises the other questions I assume. lol

I feel like I missed a lot in this game - more than I usually do for an OC.

Yes, it does...hmmm. And being a designer first & writer second now explains some of the comments. If he was a writer first, I don't think he'd have the same P.O.V.

I'm sure I didn't miss a lot of this game...
I was able to make the joining ritual to all the joinable companions (the last one you find isn't joinable therefore you have to follow the right order for the quest)
I had Velanna, Sigrun and Nat at + 100, Anders +80 (but I started with a -20 with him after few dialogues) Oghren +70 but I had a lot of diapproval for him because I always berate him.
Therefore I believe I had done more or less anything with them, dialogues, cutscenes and so on...

I may have offended him pointing out the over use of "At Any Rate" in that thread.. I was counting how many times it was used in DA:O and DAA LOL but lost count. It was so redundant, it became expected from every npc. I almost fell over if one did not say it! lol
Oh!! "Elsewhere" was the other overly abused word.. think there are a couple others.

I thought the combat was way easy in the expansion. I had way more challenge in DA:O and deaths lol Oddly? once I got the hang of the game, my pc rarely died. Others did, like Oghren. Seemed fun for him to die though. hehe

Concerning the new dialogue system. Well. I am really unable to give a definitely opinion...
Even if it not as bad as I was expecting it is the most unnatural and unrealistic thing ever.. It's impossible I have to click on an inanimate object in order to "unlock" a dialogue with a companion instead of clicking directly on him/her directly. This thing is even worse if, as you said, some of these object are really find to find.
But on the the other side if you are able and you have the luck/patience to find all of them at the end of the game you can realize you really got the connection with them, even if you were unable to begin directly a conversation...and you avoid during the game to ask them 350 times the same question because you clicked on him/her, you discovered there are no new dialogue options and you have to ask however something and this thing is also unrealistic...
I really don't know what to think now....

I wasn't even thinking about that (although I might now be paying more attention - thanks for that...grrr.). It's just that developers have one set of goals and writers have other sets of goals and they aren't always compatible. I also get the impression he may offend easily. For example, there were maybe a handful of posts on the conversation thread that were more of a personal nature, but a majority (a big majority) of the posts were constructive and thoughtful. Of the 995 posts that were positive, it seemed he concentrated on the 5 that weren't which I just thought odd. In this type of medium asking for such feedback, you'd expect to have some negative and possibly personal attacks. You need to let them roll off your back & concentrate on those whose goals are really wanting to participate in the creation of a fantastic RPG gaming experience. Not saying that it's easy and you can misinterpret tone & intent from this medium, but it should just be expected (unfortunately). That's what happens when passions are high.
Sorry for long post - will get off soapbox now.

Don't feel that way... After my 3rd or 4th run.. I was cheating a bit just to push things along.
