Okay all..  After two play through games of DAA.. I have some logical questions to illogical Gaider's writing, and illogical BioWare's game design

1) If you do not make Alistair king, he stays a GW with you, romanced or not. What in all that is holy would make things seem realistic that Alistair would just run off? That is sooo not Alistair hardened or not. So they toss us a bone giving us Anders which is just Alistair magic style.

2) Same with Leliana and Zevran... No word? No mention of why or what they are doing?

3) Oghren was not only a non vital part of this story, he was worse than before. I did not think they could make his personality any more annoying. Good job, they managed it. Why they said he was an important part of this story is beyond me. He was an annoying drunk and tool. Also, having to gain approval from zero with him was LAZY programming.

4) Environment mods. Get rid of them! they are the bane of many crashes and bugs. Seems things like hair etc are fine.

5) The endings...  "shakes head"  There is no logic in these ending scenarios. I really think they were picking ideas out of a hat and slapped them into neat little text boxes. So many text boxes, that I got sick of reading them.

6) This was not a story. This was a pile of quest and companion fetching. Also the scavenger hunt for chats, all to find your companions gift fancies and personal quest. Sooooo one sided. I loved Anders and Nathanial. I never got attached to them though. The one sided relationships left me saying good-bye very easily.

Speaking of quest.... Gah.. never had so much trouble. I finally managed them all on the second run except! Wade's special armor and weapons.. The game forcing me into crafting? Never happen. I found everything except the items I needed to craft myself it seems. I was not willing to bother. I truly HATE crafting. That is why we have smiths etc.. They do the crafting!

7) In spite of it all. the battles were fun, the banter was funny "most the time" and even endearing at times. The areas "where you picked up the other three companions" were nicely done, confusing and got me lost often. Even at that. I thought they were well done. This could have been an amazing expansion. As it is though? I am off the pre-order list for any future Dragon Age expansions and series. I am now a "wait and see" buyer.

Tada! those are my final thoughts..   :wizard:

Still playing Awakening, recruited two of three. My take for now:

First, why on earth isn't Alistair here? In my game he's not king and he ended with me as a Grey Warden, so there's no reason he shouldn't be here. He isn't even mentioned. Leliana is my romance and Zevran stays to work for the Grey Warden, at least they could say that they were away doing some spy work or something like that.

Second, where's the difficulty of this game? I've upped it from difficult to nightmare because I was coasting, but I'm still coasting. I've only had slight problems with one single battle, the one with the inferno golem, and that's because I had an error at the start and had to recover from it.

Ok, the companions. I don't like them as much as in Origins because you don't have time to develop a relationship, but still... here they are, in the order I've found them.

- Anders: I like him. It's a pity I'm a mage so I don't use him constantly, but I like his banter with any other companion. And his cat :D.

- Oghren: I liked him in Origins, he developed and changed some if you let him and by the end he seemed he was going to be another person. And then, they make him regress and becomes *really* annoying. Bah.

- Nathaniel: My favourite so far. The one with more character development, interesting. I like his "enlightment".

- Justice: He could be seen like a d&d paladin tossed into the real world. He's confused by everything and you have to help him cope with his new found passions. With more time to develop, as in Origins, he could have been a really interesting character.

- Sigrun: The most recent for me so I still don't have a strong opinion. But I'm liking what I see so far and her optimism in spite of the situation.

At least his fan has a cameo of him, and for those who romanced him is a great outcome if compared to other romances

And his gift are bugged ! No one notices this? While other characters gifts give +10, +9, +8 Oghren’s gifts give only +6. This problem prevent from the opportunity to bring his approval at +80, and to complete his personal quest… Maybe if you do this you can have a more serious character.. but to be honest it would be however too late.he had already annoyed me after 1/3 of the adventure

A question for all.. Don’t you believe there are TOO many objects this time?Did we really need all of them?
I finished the game with my chest in Warden’s Keep which was full.. What could I do with 7-8 armors set if I have only 1 warrior (2 if you consider my character)? And 10 different bows if I had only 1 archer who use from the beginning his family’s bow? And 25 different wands if I have only 2 mages.. and tons of rings, bells and so on… I picked up most of them and after this I throw them into keep’s chest, unless they were some really powerful object.
And all the new specialization, talents, spells.. Some of them are really funny but I don’t know if they were really useful for a 12-14 hours of adventure. I believe the same thing also for rune-crafting…I see this thing as a waste of time/money they could spent in a better way for improving other contents of the game

Twiggles & Max just finished a runthrough of DA:A and have posted their opinions. I finished my first runthrough Friday night / Saturday morning. It's Monday morning and I quite honestly don't remember much, at least not enough to talk about without some prompt questions. Perhaps if you click on me, I'll remember more and my conversation wil be enlightening, but other than some of the characters and the feeling of a scavanger hunt, not a lot sticks out in my mind. I think this speaks volumes.

Warning, bit of a rant below :-) -

Well I've began to get into Awakenings, thankfully no bugs apart from the odd crash, but my impression of the expansion so far is not that great. There is an interesting story in here some where, but after a promising start it's a bit a difficult actually getting to it so far (I think you do need the Calling to understand the story better at the beginning, so that the game doesn't just seem to be a hack n' slash adventure with some nice cut scenes which it is in many areas at the moment). The are some interesting characters I think, and an interesting part of Ferelden possibly, but I can't really talk to the characters or NPCs that much to actually find out if they are interesting and see the depth and interesting nature of this part of Ferelden. As a result, despite the fact that I can see there are interesting companions I'd like to get to know here, and an area of Ferelden I'd love to interact with, I can't, and so everything has a very superficial feel to it, which is even more maddening because I can feel behind that superficial veil there are actually some intriguing characters to get to know if only I could actual do this, but I feel as if the convo system locks me as a player out.

I was also very dissatisfied with the first Joining, what was played as such a big and important scene with allot of meaning in Origins, is reduced to being a joke and something of no consequence here particularly with Oghren and with Anders reactions to it. *small spoiler* A character does die, but it's after these two, and for me the whole feel of it as a scene of any meaning had been lost by this point, to the point that even the character's death felt meaningless and without any emotional impact what so ever (unlike say Daveth's or even Jory's deaths in the Origin's Joining). If that character had died first, it might have caused the writers to change Oghren (particularly) and Anders reactions to the Joining and allowed to scene to be more meaningful, as it is however, I just felt what was the point of it?

And Oghren - why? Why is he here, I don't see anywhere where he as yet is playing a 'important' or vital role in this story, which is what we were told by the devs, and he seems the same as Origins but worse. To be blunt I'd rather now they had left him out and allowed us to keep the character we arrive at Vigil's Keep with, she seemed to be interesting and have potential. But then again, that would bring me back to the problems with the convo system, and having what look like interesting characters but being unable to interact with them.

Also the lack of any continuity is slightly irritating, we where told we would have some acknowledgement of our romances, and yet I have not found it yet (the character I'm using romanced Leliana), and apart from Alistair being on the throne nothing else is referred to here. Also, my character is a Dalish elf, yet the game seems to forget this half the time, Velanna only half-remembers sometimes, and her clan seemed to miss it completely even though he has dark Dalish tattoos all over his face O_O, further there seems to be no mention from any of the new Dalish homeland right here in Ferelden which my PC gained for his people.

Well as I'm getting into it more of a story is revealing itself, and the classes are interesting, but so far that's the most positive things I can say yet, mostly likely as I get towards the end the story will be more revealed and it will get better. However the game feels a bit lackluster and with the current convo system also superficial (even though as said above I can just get glimpses of there being more depth to the characters and world, but sadly I rarely am able to get to it). I got what I paid for at £14.73 (around 20 dollars) but I'm glad I didn't play the 40 dollars some did, because as it stands right now, it's just not worth that.

/end rant :-)

I have to agree with you Stealthmaster. The Joining for Origins was dangerous, mysterious and selective. Only the best were asked to join. In Awakenings, it was as if anyone could join and the price you paid was incidental. Having gone through The Joining and knowing its consequences, I would think being the Warden-Commander, you'd take special care in deciding who would join. Yes, you need to re-build the ranks of the Grey Wardens, but you have just defeated The Blight...I think you'd have any number of recruits wishing to join. You needed to select the best. The Joining here seemed to be a free-for-all and not have as much meaning.

@Curlain.. I can understand your disappointment.

At least as I played as a HFN I had a little little feeling of continuity thanks to Nathaniel Howe, which continue in some way a single feature of the personal history of my character.

But it's really too little..

I don't know if there is something similar also for characters from other origins or if it's even worse for them...

g

Agree. I do wish they had saved Howe for a longer game. He was by far the most interesting character of all, especially for the HN character. Really could have made his joining the Wardens much more dramatic and then have a very long arc for his character development. Even if your Warden wasn't a HN, I'm sure Howe's need for revenge against the Wardens would be motivation & story enough - to get started at least. As it is, we won't be seeing too much of him or if we do, he's already changed which is too bad.

Yes this is true.. But the real world, my real world, rarely calls on monday evenings...
Monday evenings are always home-laziness devoted.. Don't call me, don't ask me anything... I'll stay at home Image IPB
