But you took yesterday off like most of us.  There are moments when the real world calls - and it calls collect! Image IPB

Yes this is true.. But the real world, my real world, rarely calls on monday evenings...
Monday evenings are always home-laziness devoted.. Don't call me, don't ask me anything... I'll stay at home Image IPB

It's good to have that. Something to look forward to. Image IPB

Hi Curlain.

Yes, i understand your frustration. The joining, the whole becoming a Frey Warden is so unique and special in Origins. Duncan is scouring Ferelden for the best despite being on the edge of war. The joining itself seems like a sacred ritual. Every recruit has to do some rite of passage with the youngest Warden before doing the joining, and only the strongest and most worthiest are elected to try.
Yet in Awakening, it seems like joining is no big issue. Anders is like "hey before they kill you, oh what the heck, come join us". Velallan: "you make a mistake. so pay for it, join us".
Becoming a Grey Warden has become les special and more like we're desperate and take everyoen we can get our hands on.
And the joining has lost much of it's appeal too. Varel is rpeating the lines, and that's it. Only one predetermined one is to die. Oghren reactions to the joining is just disgusting and killing the whole dark and dangerous experience the joining was supposed to be.
I would have liked it more if you would have the option the make the joining right before the final fight. You take the companions along, they prove they are strong and worthy, and right before the final, they do their joining together, all of them. That would have been more like a ritual. And the deaths should happen random, not always the same one. That could have been interesting. Or at least make the ones more serious about what's to happen. In Origins, the recruits are afraid cause they fear to die, while in Awakening, they show nothing of this, it's more like having a beer together

Well, I need to head into work - Monday morning and all. It is dreary here - fog is rolling in off the ocean and it's not as warm as it was over the week-end. Typical New England weather in March. Hope everyone has a pleasant day & I'll see you all later. Bye! "waves"

There is another thing I found really a ******** in this game...

Wynnie's Cameo !!
Ok..she wasn't one of my favourite characters, and I know many people who didn't like/hated her... But damn.. She was one of my companion while we were fighting the blight... the more.. In my game she was one of the 3 companions who entered with me into Fort Drakon to kill the Archdemon

Wasn't really possible to have just a little more "emotional" cameo.. Not something like we were two people that had just met to drink a beer the day before instead of saving the world some months before???

I like your ideas, and had it been structured like that, the Joining (and the whole recruiting new Wardens) would have retained it's deep meaning, particularly if having them all undertake the Joining after proving themselves together there is a possibility that any one of them could be the one that dies (would also have added much needed replay value).

It's to bad you weren't helping design the expansion :)

While I'd have loved that, I'm sure many people would have whined a lot.

@ Curlain: thx, it just like i replayed Origins yesterday and made the joining there, and if you talk to Jory and Daveth, they fear they joining, Daveth dies, leading Jory to retreat and gettin killed by Duncan. This whole ritual has a serious and dark atmosphere, and it shows the Warden's commitment to do everything and stop at nothing to fight the Darkspawn.
In Awakening, it's just not like that. Sure, one dies, but the rest? Varel says his line, they drink, done. Theat scene had so much conflict. Oghren could tell you afterwards he now understands what you gone through during Origins. He could maybe refuse to do the joining because of his family, forcing you to decide between keeping the joining secret and kill him or let him escape. I expected the joinig to be a central part of the game, something realy important cause it's the most important thing for the Warden's, and it was close to nothing.

@ Kenrae: sure, but that can never be avoided. It's a dark fantasy, and in Origins they took pride in that saying like there is no happy ending, this is dark fantasy and the Warden's are no heroes, and now they have abandoned that principle it seems. Well, at least after that, they run out of reasons to deny us a happy ending after they throw that dark fantasy out of the window, so it was nevertheless good for something.

Well Max MacFluffies. I know better than to stay up so late. I KNOW I will have a very energetic 5yo running amok in the morning. Alas...  All these things I "know better not to do" I do them anyway.

Oh Twiggles... You are still young and you still have a lot of energy... You should begin to think to go to bed earlier when you will have more or less 70

Anyone else find Wynne to be a very pointless moment? "Hey, lets stick Wynne here, get quest from her that means absolutely nothing, and never see her again" Of all the characters too show up.. Eh.. Seeing her actually was a disappointment for me, lol

Hehe, i really angered her in that meeting, but i just felt i had to say that. She was more annoyed than i ever got her within Origins I was more disappointed that she didn't showed up afterwards to say a few thankful words for helping her out

Her whole cameo was a little bit pointless like "oh let'S make another cameo to calm the people we don't acknowledge the old companions, so let's see, we just put Wynne inside there somehow". Well, at least i could show my devotion to a certain apostate by bashing Wynne for her view on the freedom from the Templars and the chantry ;)

You know what is most amazing? Bioware making comments about expansions not being part of the main story. This one was! but so poorly done, that they must have felt the need to state the fact to cover how poorly designed the expansion was.

I really don't like comparing games. MoTB in NWN2 was around $30 for 30'ish hours of play. YES.. not every npc was VO'd. All the main ones were though. Yes.. not as many cinematic cut sceens. Even a lame romance.  So... we spent $40 for 15ish hours, and no real story.. Or at the very leas. Story light and lots of pointless quest.
