@ Curlain: thx, it just like i replayed Origins yesterday and made the joining there, and if you talk to Jory and Daveth, they fear they joining, Daveth dies, leading Jory to retreat and gettin killed by Duncan. This whole ritual has a serious and dark atmosphere, and it shows the Warden's commitment to do everything and stop at nothing to fight the Darkspawn.
In Awakening, it's just not like that. Sure, one dies, but the rest? Varel says his line, they drink, done. Theat scene had so much conflict. Oghren could tell you afterwards he now understands what you gone through during Origins. He could maybe refuse to do the joining because of his family, forcing you to decide between keeping the joining secret and kill him or let him escape. I expected the joinig to be a central part of the game, something realy important cause it's the most important thing for the Warden's, and it was close to nothing.
@ Kenrae: sure, but that can never be avoided. It's a dark fantasy, and in Origins they took pride in that saying like there is no happy ending, this is dark fantasy and the Warden's are no heroes, and now they have abandoned that principle it seems. Well, at least after that, they run out of reasons to deny us a happy ending after they throw that dark fantasy out of the window, so it was nevertheless good for something.
