Hi Curlain.
Yes, i understand your frustration. The joining, the whole becoming a Frey Warden is so unique and special in Origins. Duncan is scouring Ferelden for the best despite being on the edge of war. The joining itself seems like a sacred ritual. Every recruit has to do some rite of passage with the youngest Warden before doing the joining, and only the strongest and most worthiest are elected to try.
Yet in Awakening, it seems like joining is no big issue. Anders is like "hey before they kill you, oh what the heck, come join us". Velallan: "you make a mistake. so pay for it, join us".
Becoming a Grey Warden has become les special and more like we're desperate and take everyoen we can get our hands on.
And the joining has lost much of it's appeal too. Varel is rpeating the lines, and that's it. Only one predetermined one is to die. Oghren reactions to the joining is just disgusting and killing the whole dark and dangerous experience the joining was supposed to be.
I would have liked it more if you would have the option the make the joining right before the final fight. You take the companions along, they prove they are strong and worthy, and right before the final, they do their joining together, all of them. That would have been more like a ritual. And the deaths should happen random, not always the same one. That could have been interesting. Or at least make the ones more serious about what's to happen. In Origins, the recruits are afraid cause they fear to die, while in Awakening, they show nothing of this, it's more like having a beer together
