@Curlain.. I always hated management... Even when I was a D&D player I never wanted castles... fortress... properties.... I just wanted to travel and have adventures



And I wasn't complaining (this time) lack of romances.... I was just joking people who attacked us because they consider romances a sim feature and now they have a feature which is MUCH MORE sim than romances...

Ahh, my HFN archer played very well, over-powered actually.. Highest single hit dmg was 703..
She basically solo'ed Deep Roads, Forest, many side quests, and most of the final battles. I would leave party on hold at the transition point, scout/clear the entire area, then bring the party only if needed for a major boss, i.e.broodmother, the Anvil, etc

Sweet.......... <3       never tried that. also never had a full archer either.

Maybe there was some kind of misunderstanding. I write freetime just for fun, mostly fantasy/scifi, but as a freelancer writer, i work for everyone who needs a writer to get something done. That includes some really awesome jobs like i once, more than ten years ago, had the opportunity to participate in writing some adventures for a pen & paper roleplaying company and some things like recently, where i attented congress and afterwards wrote a 12 page long summary on that congress for it's participants and a small magazine.

I am pretty sure I would never be anymore disappointed with crap expansions then !!!

Writing videogames has other technical difficulties apart from the writing itself. It's really difficult.

I liked some of Obsidian romances actually, Safiya was a great character, and I liked the understated romances in KOTOR2, and I really liked the party members in that, more unique on the whole then KOTOR1 (I particularly liked Visas, and Atton for that matter ;-)). And since creatively Obsidian is the continuation of Black Isle I loved the romantic themes in Planescape with Annah, Falls-from-Grace (liked her :-)) and Deonarra relationship that ran through it was really bittersweet and tragic.

And Keira (though not a romance, but a deep character relationship that you build with her) was on of the best characters written for a cRPG yet :-)

Ah, that's true, but I never got the no romances arguments mostly, virtually all story media has realised that adding romances and romantic themes adds to a story, makes the audience connect with it more, and makes them care more about the story and it's characters.  Look at movies, books, plays etc from almost any genre, they almost always have romances or romantic (or sexual) themes in them.  Nearly every fantasy and sci-fi book aimed at adults I've ever read has always had romances of some form it them.

Even most of our myths have this, so why shouldn't RPG genre games (which are about story) have them, why should games remain under that cloak that they are 'just for kids' etc, and not be able to step out as a full story telling medium in their own right?  That's why I like Bioware and Obsidian games (and the Witcher to) because they are developing the cRPG in this direction, to hopefully be a story-telling medium on a part with films or books

Yes indeed.. afterall I romanced Safyia...

and Annah is still today in my heart.. she is still my avatar in my italian rpg forum.. she has been and she will be forever my avatar...I changed signature many times.. (try to guess who I have now as signature... ) but I NEVER changed my avatar of Annah

I never played KOTOR so I don't know.. but for tha game I played UNTIL DA:O BG2 were the best romances for lenght, complexity and depth...

Driver installation went fine! Still getting used the difference between XP and Win7 when it come to driver updates, though... With XP I could do it in my sleep, with Win7, I need to pay more attention..



@Liso,

I was playing on 'normal' difficulty for that play through... If I was going to do it again, prob do it on 'hard'... She never touched a daggar since dealing with the rats in the origin story, it was bows exclusively..

Hehehe, actually I exageratted a little bit, I didn't really dislike Aerie (even if I prefered Viconia, but I digress). I liked those romances a lot because they were actually the very first ones. But Bioware has improved much over the years.

We can say that before DA:O they were the best romances ever seen in a RPG game.. NWN1 romances were not as good as 1/100 than BG romances.... ME1 romances were much more better than NWN, but didn't reach IMO the level of BG2....

Other companies....
Obsidan's romances are just horrible...
I don't know how FF romances are...

But with DA:O they absolutely overtaked  BG2, on any point of view !!!

NWN first campaign romances were crap. SoU didn't even have them, so no discussion (at least it had Deekin!). But I liked HotU dark elf romance. Not as good as BG2, but good enough. Besides, some mods had really good romances, like Shadowlords/Dreamcatcher/Demon campaign.
ME1 is much better than those, I'd put them on the BG2 level. On my first playthrough on ME2 I've been faithful to Ash, so I cannot comment on that game, but the level of character interaction and development is at least as good as DA:O as a whole.
And of course, DA:O romances are great.

On other companies, I think only Planescape: Torment can compare to Bioware games. Romancing Annah was good too. I mean, a hot tiefling woman, that's difficult to improve .
