Thanks! I actually hadn't checked on Alpha Protocol in weeks, and now I can go do that for new content! Yay!

I'm so excited for this game - I can't wait! Hopefully it will be as good as Mass Effect...

If the intention of this video was to remind me why I want this game, then mission accomplished. I'm getting a nice Metal Gear Solid vibe from Alpha Protocol. The original one, I mean. Not the sequels where Kojima lost his mind along with any semblance of restraint. Intrigue always sells me on a game. I just hope it's true we can go from start to finish without needing to kill anyone. Looking forward to trying that. :P

I like the setting, very interesting. Are they still using the wheel for dialog?

I was starting to think this would never come out. I hope it's as good as it looks.

Jonp382, yeah. There's also prompts during a conversation when you can do an action, like smash someones face into a table. In fact, I feel kinda sorry for Alpha Protocol there since ME2 got out the door with that stuff first, hehe.

But yeah, I really like this trailer. Fun stuff.

Thanks for sharing this. Looks promising, Obsidian will do good this year, with Alpha Protocol and Fallout: New Vegas.

This will be the title that's finally gonna test Obsidian's mettle on their own and not to mention it's an fresh and new IP (come on, espionage RPG? Hell yeah!). Looking forward to it... finally, Obisidian is done with BioWare's sloppy seconds.

I also have high hopes for the game, although, based on what little we know of the story, I'm concerned it will veer too much into Tom Clancy jingoist tripe territory. I would like to think Obsidian is above that, but I'm just not sure. They won a lot of points with me for KOTOR 2, and then lost some of them for NWN 2. (Sorry, I like the gameplay, but not the characters or story.)

Still, I'm currently torn between wanting to play Alpha Protocol when it releases, and wanting to maintain my boycott on Sega products over their ridiculous deal with Chiquita Bananas.

Meh, Obsidian. I honestly can't get excited about this game...someone tell me if it actually has an ending this summer.

I was excited about this game until the delay. I really love their writing team so, so much, but they delay everything! It's blergh.

Scarlett is hot, btw.

Speaking of hotness, your avatar is gorgeous.

I agree about the delays though. But I think it might have been for the best for the game itself. A) It allowed them to polish it a bit and B) releasing the game near Dragon Age (as was originally planned) or a game like Mass Effect 2 would've not done the sales for the game any favors even if it's the second coming of Christ.

I'm not normally a fan of romances in games but I have to admit that I'm kinda... intrigued by Sie. Romancing a German mercenary cougar? Oh yeah, haha.

As has been the case for quite a while now, I'm a fence-sitter in regards to AP. I want to be excited, and I certainly love Chris Avellone's work, but between the delays and some of the previews (including the lack of a sniper rifle...though that may have changed by now, but I haven't been following the game closely) I'm having a hard time caring that much.

If people I trust are very high on the game, I might pick it up early, but it's definitely not a pre-order, and at the moment I'm thinking it's a "wait until it hits the bargain bin" game for me.

The voice and the look for the main character kind of reminds me of Shepard in Mass Effect, other then that it looked pretty awesome! Not that I did not like the Shepard character, but instead that they sort of copied the character, at least it looked that way to me.

Actually, they copied Jason Bourne.

The main character also sort of gets on my nerves already, just going by videos we've seen. He looks and acts like an even bigger douchebag than Shepard. I'm hoping that he can be more likable in-game, though.

I also read a preview at one point that I found kind of disheartening. Avellone was saying that there was originally a scene in the game where the main dude was crying, and his reaction was basically "Ew, why is he crying? I don't think I like this guy anymore." And so he had the scene removed from the game.

I know, it would have never bothered me or affected me in any way if I had never read that, but if that's the kind of design and storytelling philosophy that's going into the game, color me skeptical. I hate to say it, but not only did that somewhat kill my buzz for the game, I think it actually diminished my respect for Avellone.

It's impossible to tell without having played the game, but I think I'd find myself agreeing with Avellone there. Not that crying is bad or anything like that, god no. But I think I'd prefer it if the character I'm playing is not prone to any emotional outbursts or situations where he simply loses control. Since it's a RPG, I'd like to maintain at least that level of ownership of the main character, especially since it's a cinematic game.

It's also a "tough guy" genre game to a point I suspect. I don't particularly like the Shepard character but I think I would've been pretty tempted to turn the game off if he/she had had a moment where that level of authority was replaced by a pure emotional outburst.

It's not just crying either. Could've been if the main character had a moment of extreme, helpless fury (like Saren in one of those cutscenes in ME1).

Pretty interesting topic though.

He has one -- when they get grounded.

Let´s see; modern day guns (chick with M60=win; same chick with MG4/RPK = supreme win), real world intrigue plus role playing seems like the perfect combo.

Basicaly all that is cool in MW2 plus a good story.

The main character in Alpha Protocol is a spy, being able to detach himself from all emotions is vital to his profession and his survival. Part of being a spy is having the ability to manipulate the emotions of other people and to be able to discard them at a moment's notice when they are no longer useful. Getting emotionally attached to people or feeling guilt over past actions can get a spy killed.

Actually I should have been more specific, I liked the female Shepard. I played through as the male Shepard in the first playthrough but after that I seemed to always pick the female Shepard instead of the male. Oh and who is Jason Bourne? I know you probably think I live under a rock because I don't know who he is but its the honest truth! :)
