i know alot of people think its a bad idea but think about 2 player co op were you can get a freind and they can drop in at any time and play as thane, tali, garrus,or mordin that would be awesome but thats just what i think let me know what you guys think

Some would welcome co-op if you played as one of the squad mates. However, that would cause complications with gameplay.

Expect a lot of "No!"s, however. This is certainly a hot button.

i would love to have some form of co op in the game, i'd like to see other peoples creations and be able to play along side them... but unfortunately it'll be very hard to do this without taking away major gaming mechanics... so

No.

This game wasn't designed for that mechanic, it would take nearly a re-write of the gameplay controls, mechanics, and dialogue options just to implement it for a story that wasn't designed to handle such a thing. I don't see it working here.

How would switching weapons or choosing powers work online?
I'm not against the idea, i just think it would be too big of a task when Bioware should focus primarily on the Story.

it could be done, fable 2 did it. it would likely have to work like this, the host player is shep and the guest (or guests as you could have up to two) would pick from which ever squaddies are available. this would prevent inconsistancies as you could only those who've you recruited. but it would be very difficult to implement properly and likely wouldn't

I don't think it would really work. It's a single player game, and having a co-op mode would ruin certain aspects of the game. Also, it would take a lot of work just to incorporate it into a game that is already out. A giant DLC would be required to re-write a lot of the code and they'd also have to do something about the difficulty IE making it even tougher.

Though I know some would enjoy seeing this come to pass, it would require WAY too much time and effort to do all this. Probably enough time to write a brand new game from scratch. The game might already be out and pretty much finished, this idea would entail them to completely re-write the game again (yes I'm repeating myself, but that's the biggest point). There a lot of other reasons why it wouldn't work in ME2, but the biggest reason is because of code.

Perhaps if you can get enough people for the next game, or maybe some kind of ME spin-off game. But as far as ME2 would be concerned, there will not be a co-op mode.

It worked for Fable 2 because the gameplay was built to support it. ME2 was not. So, as you said: it would be very difficult to implement properly. Especially now.

multiplayer isn't something easily just patched in..it requires re-writing of code at the very start.

if not online then what split screen? ew..no...

regardless it's not something that's easily "patched" in...it requires a lot of code re-writing and adapting that simply wouldn't give a return of investment in money and time spent doing it.

you're not gonna see it.

Aye, co-op generally refers to playing online. Honestly, unless your in middle or high school, or just starting college, most folks don't have any time to get together to play games a lot. The multi-player aspect is useless if it's restricted to just playing split-screen.

multiplayer RPGs are boring anyway... ever played co-op on Tales of Vesperia? it's fun enough when you're fighting, but the second player tends to get bored very quickly because he/she has to wait while player 1 goes around and buys gear, talks to people, triggers cutscenes, etc.

Of course coop would be fun, but I would have to say no. There would be too many gameplay issues, and coop on RPG's tends to get boring after a while. (*cough* Borderlands *cough*)

In all honesty, multiplayer for Mass Effect would ruin the immersion.

Ah, you mean the one where you fight off wave after wave of covenent forces, and you have a timer (or just something timing you, don't remember only did it once and didn't have much fun with it personally) and the faster you kill them the more points you get and longer you can play or something?  Yeah, they really should've made that online applicable. Wasn't much fun doing itby yourself.

I know a lot of gamers, but we're always busy with school, work, and general life issues. Not a lot of time to gether together to play games together. And even then, most of the time it's more than 4 of us, and most console games only fit up to four folks. And we're all big Halo and Ghostbuster fans (Ghostbusters is really fun multi-player game).

so who would control the other squad mate? who would do the talking? if it was a full FPS game then yes maybe but RPG ? unless the second player become an henchman like in fable II then it would fail and it would be real boring for the second player to stand around and do nothing
