iam getting ready to do my second "evil" run and i already have a planned group of me,morrigan, sten, and shale(dunno how its gonna work since i plan to go with branka). well my point is will i be handicapping myself if i have no "chest runner"? i mean i guess i could always go back through with leilana or something but thats just wishful thinking. is the gear you get from locked chests which mostly is vendor trash really matter?

for the record i refuse to ever put zevran in my group because of his ****** tendencies.

It is not necessary. I am actually more interested in the experience gain. Without a lockpicker, you may need to prepare to trigger some hostile traps during combat.
Also, the love letter quest needs lockpick to complete.

Haha, after i found out Zevran was a ****** i stopped using him too.

I wish there was a ''open lock'' or ''knock'' spell that could be casted by spellcasters to open chests.

Would open up a party member slot.

You're just mad because you are confused about your attraction to him. Don't resist! Give in! You know you want to ;)

How is that wishful thinking?

When you did use Leliana, didn't you go back to open all the chests you hadn't been able to the first time you found them?  I certainly did.  An extra run through the Mage Tower and Deep Roads just to open all the chests.

I would never ever in my waking life use Leliana in the Deep Roads because she would be massacared but I always go back through, not only to unlock stuff but to look around. I highly suggest going through, because sometimes you miss stuff. I once missed the entire Legion of the Dead armor because I was freaked out by Hespith lol

Watch the gay bashing, please.  Just tell Zevran off.

I don't see why.  I've been through the Deep Roads twice, and I had Leliana with me every step of the way both times (once with Shale, Oghren, and PC Mage - once with Oghren, Wynne, and PC Mage).  She does fine.

Hmm, maybe it's the way I play her. She does fine everywhere, but I brought her along for a portion of Deep Roads and I quickly regretted that. I don't like archers and I don't respec so...

+10. By the way, technically Leliana is a "******" too, given the fact that you can romance her as a girl. So you just lost your only two rogues...unless she's okay because lesbians are hot -rolls eyes-

major shale spoiler:

********************************

unless you want to fight shale to the death if you side with Branka. leave S at camp for that part. then in camp you lose pts but can give a gem and sweet talk not to leave you. (lying an option but tricky.) save save save.

Amen to that.  Or even a strength check  for a   warrior to successfully bash a lock open.

But to answer the thread starter....  a lot of people claim that the stuff you find in locked chests is worthless and so they tell you not to bother.  But you'd be surprized as just how much you CAN find in locked chests.  Gold sovereigns.  The  highest armor-rating  gloves in the game.   Silverite and dragonbone armor  pieces that sell for 3-4 sovereigns  each.  Some quest items  ( most of the love letters are in locked chests)   Ammo    (arrows and bolts that can net you lots of gold if you sell them)   Gifts for your companions.  etc.  And there are.... LOTS of locked chests in the game from beginning to end.    Enough to make a humongous difference in how rich you become.  You'll notice that  once you decide to play without a rogue in your party.

I know you said you didn't want to, but I'd still suggest taking Zevren for your "evil group".  You don't have to chat it up with him you know.  Just use him for his skills.

I think that your assessment on profitabilty of lockpick is not complete.
Stuff you find in common locked chests are similar to that of loot. They scale with char lvl. The gold soverigns and high tier armour are gotten towards the later half of the game. I will agree that arrows/bolts are sweet. Otherwise wrt to profitability, lockpicking early game is not amazing, and lockpick lategame is redundant when funds are generally in excess.

I get the 'I don't like/approve of homosexuals so I don't have Lelianna and Zevran in my party". It's weird, but at least it's consistent. I don't get the "Zevran is gay therefore he is icky; but Lelianna is bisexual therefore she is hawt". this is a roleplaying game.

Characters in this game are what you make of them by your conversational choices. It's possible to play with both Zevran and Lelianna in your party and never know that they have any interest in your character whatsoever. If they do show an interest (which always happens with Leli when I'm interested in someone else) they are easy enough to shut down.

Locked chests aren't full of loot.

They are full of delicious delicious experience points.

Also, Zevran can 'sneak in my shadows', 'pick my locks', 'backstab my weakpoint', and 'sheathe his daggers in me' any day of the week.

Wink wink, hint hint, whaddyaknow whaddyaknow.

'backstab my weakpoint'

*pained expression*

Perhaps "stab" was not the best word for that. Now I have visions of knives and poor Krylon... Hope you use protection. Like a set of armor...

But I always get stuff in chests. I sell everything that isn't attach to myself or my companions so I end up very rich lol

I have always have Leliana in my party. You loose too much exp by tripping traps. Every time I see a trap I stop everything and sent Lelianna after them. Higher level traps are 40-50 exp each. Thats more than you get for killing Dark Spawn in the Deep Roads and the same as Codexes
