They started to get it right with the DLC "Bring Down the Sky" where the world was much more pleasant to look at and it provided some interesting depth. What I was hoping for is they would expand even further and fix the problems with the mako; floaty controls, small degree of fire, bugs galore. And provide the perfect planet exploration experience.

Bring down the sky was a perfect example of how to do a UCW.  It wasn't too big to explore in the Mako, it had more than just exploration to do on the surface and had a quite involving storyline to it.

We asked at the time for all UCWs to be done in a similar manner and what happened...

We got crappy N7 over in 30 second shoot fests.

And even the Mako just needed fixing slightly, with a speed boost button to help us up the hills and slightly less bouncy suspension, it would have been fantastic.

*********

Where to begin?

 * It's not free. I paid 80 bucks for Mass Effect 2

Sure it is. If you hadn't paid $80 to buy it you'd not even have a reason to download the DLC. The DLC comes as an addition to the game.

* and it did NOT come with planet exploration that I loved in the first game.

Newsflash: You're not in the majority and I'll wager you're not even in a plurality. I'd rather scan 1,000 worlds than go down on another one of those cut and paste environments so I can trudge over 20 mountain peaks to find a freaking ID tag.

* I was told it would be put in later (because they did not have time to QA the hammerhead) and now it is shown and it is still NOT the exploration I wanted.

Please link to where a Bioware spokesman said it was  the exploration you wanted. You heard "vehicle" and "planet" and assumed. No one can be faulted for the fact that you're ticked off because the facts don't mesh with the idea that you created in your own mind.

* I was bummed by the decrease in scale in this game.

Scale has not been decresed in this game. At all. The planet grinding in the MAKO isn't "scale" It isn't "scale" just because you have a large environment. Not when that environment is essentially empty.

You're lamenting the loss of a more elaborate time sink. Nothing more.

I'm not really sure about the first point you made about the price I spent. But, I do have a right to critique what they have shown so far and I'm disappointed in what I have seen.

And I'm not saying bring back the Mako exactly how it was - I'm saying evolve the concept. Like it or not, the Mako scenes (exploring planets) made the game feel BIGGER - although clunky.

I'm fascinated with astronomy and being able to visit these planets and experience the different climates and coming across ancient artifacts with often times stories behind them was what made ME1 really unique and helped make the Universe seem like an expansive world filled with a multitude of places. Now it just seems like a bunch of arenas strapped together with some interesting menu navigation...

Mass Effect is an odd genre and people are going to like different things about it, I happen to love the enriched history of the game and the vast expansive universe. I was bummed out to see that was removed and my only salvation was the Hammerhead brining some back... and it was not.

And WHY did I think it would be this? Mostly blind hope. But I also do not see the need for a tight knit corridor tank shooter game. Does not fit.

I understand your disappointment but all these are are screenshots so your idea of them just being rail missions is dumb...You don't have any idea what they will be like, If anything they have learned from their mistakes in the first and will make these five missions very large and with many things to do and you can shoot things in that awesome looking vehicle....Also, that snow area with the giant ice and amazing detail only ensure that all these areas will be beautiful with detail and give a great sense of atmoshere...Graphics and little details can tell as much a story as some little codex entries can

We have updated the Cerberus network page with new information on the upcoming Hammerhead & Firewalker mission pack that will be arriving in March.

You can learn details on the Hammerhead and see 5 new screenshots here: http://masseffect.bi.../info/cerberus/

I wish you announced it like, a week before or something..That way I wouldnt be obsessively counting the seconds down.

Rather awesome I must say. I'm assuming that with 5 missions there will be achievements involved, especially since having Zaeed grants achievements beyond the base 1000 GS. Hoping to get word on that. We're looking at a month or less!

Awesome!

And here I expected it'd probably take another 6 months till the promised Hammerhead DLC came out! I'm gonna ram my head against a wall 5 times for doubting you, Bioware!

..ok, I'm not.... but I shouldn't have doubted you guys.

Personally I am going to take it with a grain of salt *looks at salt shaker*. I remember the whole RTO out before christmas debacle. Also this whole 'free' thing doesnt exactly give me lots of optimisum. I'd much rather pay 10 dollars for them to come up with lots of new missions then hope for 5 great missions. I am thinking of a Cerebus network gold plan, if you will.

Thank you! Man, you are the only one I have found that agrees with me... getting old being alone on this. Thanks!

@Mavkiel I think they have lots of material they didn't get around to before the release date. So as a way to encourage pirates to buy a legit copy they are going to release all the material they weren't able to get around to via Cerberus Network. After they finish up what they really wanted to get around to, I'm sure we'll see some good pay for DLC that will be what you're looking for.

@DarknessBear, I LOVED the Mako. Didn't have a problem with it. Sure, you needed to have a light touch with it, but it wasn't hard to master at all. I'ma miss it.

Please rephrase that to "there's too much reading for me", since it's opinion, and not fact. Not fact at all.

Some of us like to read, and would posit that there was, in fact, not nearly enough reading. :D

Dude, I am an English teacher by day and an author with a novel under my belt by night.  I read for a living (my way of saying I really like to read,) and there was too much reading for me.  It just seems like a copout.  Reading in the codex, fine.  Reading a few logs at a mission, fine.  Reading the entire mission, well, it's not a mission at that point but an interactive fanfic.

The last screen shot shows a geth so I wonder if this means the geth turn on us and we get to kill Legion or maybe we're going to the Quarian home world.

Why would you think that? it is obviously the renegade geth!

Bioware's way of combating used game market and piracy by offering free DLC is the best I have seen yet. Good job guys!!

IT RISES! :D But why must it have the effing Cerberus symbol all over it? Why are the guys at Bioware so sternly convinced that a black ops terrorist organization would want to be recognized all across the galaxy? Beats me.

Still, the Hammerhead looks totally awesome. Looking forward to it a lot.

If by "feel bigger" you mean feel pointlessly dragged out, I agree.

That bit about accuracy during attacks - that's for me, and the hundreds - nay thousands! - who had better luck killing thresher maws on foot in ME1 than in the Mako.... unless it really was only me who got out to kill them everytime....

I guess that makes me special because I never had any problems using the makos main gun on the move.

You did not have to do those parts though, so it's your own damn fault. And ****, drag the game out as long as you want Bioware I love the universe and the longer I can be in it the better. Some of us don't like loading to combat arena to combat arena. You obviously do, so play Gears of War.
