Now don't get me wrong, having a new heavy weapon would be great, but we kinda have a lot of devices of instant doom at this point. If they wish to bring out a highly unique way of making-things-terminally-dead then by all means bring it on.

However, what would be even more fun for myself (not sure about everyone else) is a melee class weapon. One of the highlights of ME2 was the Vanguard's Biotic Charge ability. Sure, in the begining it's a little stupid to just go leaping in there at lvl 1, but the later upgrades seriously make the thing VERY fun. The high-risk, high-reward factor of zooming in there up to a maercs face only to pummel 7 shades of snot out of them and still be standing afterwards made me clap my hands in mirthless glee!
At this point, if a melee weapon was available, I'd be saying "f**k yeah!!!" a lot.

Really, it doesn't have to be much. A ball-peen hammer or a pair of children's safety scissors would do it. :P
But some kind of bayonette or combat knife would be cool also.

Just sayin'

I'd absolutely LOVE a melee weapon in ME2!!! Something like Fallout 3's Powerfist would rock!

I understand the sentiment, but charging for the hammerhead would have been an outrage. They completely REMOVED the planet exploration element from the game.

In a sequel to ME1, where it was such a large element, not having it in the game from launch is already quite a big letdown. If they had made everyone pay for it, it would have been a gross breach of consumer trust.

So while I agree it's good that it's free, it really couldn't have been purchasable dlc. Unless they wanted to add insult to the injury of a complete lack of space exploration.

It would be like making Assassin's Creed 3 with only the climbing elements available on launch, then releasing all the combat elements at later date, and on top of that, making people pay for it.

Errr... I doubt that the introduction of the Hammerhead will also be the re-introduction of the godawful planetary 'exploration' featured in the first Mass Effect game. Roaming around barren planets and finding prefab bases and minerals to scan was *not* my idea of a good time, and I doubt that it was the favourite pastime of many other fans of the first game, either, unless they had a penchant for tedium. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for exploration, but only when it occurs within an interesting context/environment, and leads to interesting findings/outcomes. Bioware did us a favour by removing those sections from the game, and so making us pay for a new vehicle + whatever missions they have planned would not have been an 'outrage', unless they really were a mere replacement of a feature that most people are glad to be rid of anyway.

I am prepared to pay for DLC... if it is substantial... those 5 missions... they are for free... so I doubt, there be a lot of RPG in it... Probably more shooting than anything else... I just hope the maps are interesting!

Anyway... Thank the Cylon god for pay day this Friday... Gonna get me Dragon Age... No sense on waiting for ME2 DLC and playing it to death! Still have to finish my second ME1&2 playthrough... but I consider waiting with continuing from ME1 to ME2 till the DLCs arrive...

That's a way to describe it, but I'm sure a lot of players loved to land on a desert planet, discover a new world, a new sun, a new enlightment of this world and seek for a mission using the Mako.
Obviously, there was also part of this game not so interesting, as when we had to climb mountain we couldn't climb easily, or spend 30 minutes seeking for minerals because we wanted to complete that mineral mission. But I really had nice time on it. The first time I met that Thresher maw on a sand planet for Admiral Kahoku, it was really one of my favourite moment the first time I played Mass Effect 1, because it was unexpected.

I hope the hammerhead missions will be a bit like this. A big land to discover, some fighting with the hammerhead, and finally a place I will visit getting out of the vehicle. A bit like the current N7 mission, but with more land exploration. Not only a corridor I go through.

My only hope with the hammerhead & firewalker missions is that they are free roaming and not linear corridor's like the rest of the game, also is it know if the hammerhead will be upgradable like the normandy.

agree. I hope it will be. I assume it will be, as everything can be upgraded in ME2, but we can't be sure.

If you go to the main Mass Effect website, where it talks about the hammerhead, it will say at the end of the announcement:

Thanks for that.  I kept looking in the Cerberus network page to try and find it, to no avail. I  never thought to look on the main page. XD  So, 5 missions and the Hammerhead in the Firewalker pack, as well as a new heavy weapon.  Looks like March will be busy.

Will these missions have a common thread connecting them? If not, then I hope they can at least expand on preexisting ones.

The fight between the Hammerhead and the Geth Colossus looks cool, but it would also be cool if there was a fight between the Hammerhead and the Mantis gunship. To sweeten the pot, if you completed Zaeed's loyalty quest and let Santiago get away, then he could be flying the gunship. If not, then it would be piloted by some nobody.

Though I'm not sure how the Hammerhead could be involved, I'd also like to see an N7 assignment where you're hunting down "Billy", that rather creepy serial killer that you inadvertently let loose on the galaxy when you recruited Jack. I don't think that e-mail was a hollow threat, he managed to hack into an encrypted Cerberus network to leave that message. Plus, I imagine that a Paragon Shepard would feel a little guilty about unleashing him upon a vulnerable galaxy yet again.

I just wanted to pop in and let everyone know that the hammerhead will be on GTTV this week.

From @geoffkeighley's twitter:

Lots of cool stuff on this week's GTTV. First look / footage of the Hammerhead in action in Mass Effect 2. It looks great!

I was also frustrated receiving emails but never got any assignment from these. It was always just tchitchat. I remember when you entered a system and got a private call on the first mass effect and it was great. I like to scan planet to find anomaly, but I would also like if I could get an assignment from an email, for instance.

And as a Paragon Shepard, I want to hunt Billy down !

See, I don't quite get what all this about "Not another linear corridor shooter."

For one, in ME2, they're some of the prettiest corridors I've ever seen. lol They're not just corridors, there's bad s**t to shoot and kill in them too. There are large expansive areas to run around in, cover to take and vault over. There's death from above and below and running right at you too.

Then there's the veriety of missions in ME2 compared to ME1.

In ME1 you had exhaustive Mako levels that at first were fun to be rambling around in a Hill-climber type vehicle, but then got tedius when that's all you did. The inside locations were pretty much the same palette and shape with a few extra walls and miscelaneous crates. THEY were the real corridor levels.

I mean, look at it this way, you really cant be complaining over the quality of ME2's levels can you? The story levels are large, open and treacherous and most importantly UNIQUE. Painstaking work has gone into making sure that a level was never like the last.

The most understanding I got of Bioware's respect for their fans, was the variety of sidequest levels. You have your solitary walk arounds, all out gunfights, puzzle-rooms, mech-escorting, hostile-riddled beacon lighting and my two favourites...Gassy-Geth-Planet, and Precarious-Ship-Husk-On Edge-Of-Mountain.

So at this point, don't even think that there levels you're getting to fly around in are going to be crap. lol

Never bring a knife into a gun fight...

I see absolutely no point of having a melee weapon even on vanguard, when you can shove a shotgun in the mercs face and pull the trigger.

The most stupid thing in Fallout 3 is when a power armored soldier tries to melee a minigun wielding baddie. It's just so god damn ridiculous.

So because ME is at least semirealistic sci-fi shooter, then PLEASE NO MELEE WEAPONS in ME. Go play Halo if you want to play unrealistic melee fighter.

You're right, missions are a lot better on ME2 than on ME1, but I assume we could have both : Great mission as we have in ME2, but also a few lands to discover with the Hammerhead. I really miss the feeling of discovering a new world, having admiration for a new "sun" and et caetera. I might be the only one, but I was hilarious when I landed on Selene (the current "moon") and could have a close look on the earth. I felt exactly the same when I landed on that meteor from Bring Down the Sky. I would love the planet discovery to introduce the Mass Effect 2 assignments, that's it.

Don't get me wrong, I love ME2 and what they did with the missions, but I miss some stuff from ME1. I just hope the hammerhead will bring it back.

Sometimes enemies get too close even for the shotgun. A soldier should always know how to fight when a gun isn't available. Which is why our modern military has the Survival Knife, the ASP extending baton (replaces the "billy club" for riot gear), and the Special Forces martial art form.

Thane certainly doesn't bring a knife to a gunfight, he' s a trained sniper who also utilizes Shredder rounds and biotics. But when enemies get too close for that, or when he needs to be a little bit more silent and stealthy, then he has those cool martial arts moves. It stands to reason that a Spectre would have the same skills.

I certainly could've used an ASP on Feros, when I ran out of Anti-Thorian gas grenades but still had colonists I wanted to subdue alive. I ended up shooting some colonists that I was trying to knock out. The seperate melee button for ME2 was a definite improvement.

That said, I think the reason why ME2 didn't have melee weapons was because of animation issues, and those issues would probably be too big to fix with DLC. So we got the separate button for melee attacks and those cutscenes where Thane channelled Steven Seagal as a compromise.

You're not the only one ;) I loved the mako missions. Despite the horribad vehicle handling and low-poly landscapes, I had this phenomenal feeling of actually exploring something unknown. ME is the only game that has done this for me in the last 10 years.

As for ME2's Hammerhead, I will gobble up any DLC that is thrown my way, cause I still freakin' love both ME2 and the universe as a whole :D
