I am prepared to pay for DLC... if it is substantial... those 5 missions... they are for free... so I doubt, there be a lot of RPG in it... Probably more shooting than anything else... I just hope the maps are interesting!

If you remember Mass Effect 1, the free DLC Bring Down the Sky was a lot better than the one we had to pay : Station Pinnacle. So I don't think the fact that it's free clearly means it will be bad.

Genkizero & others.... I've got some martial arts & martial arts weapons training. I also have a lot of firearms training. If you think you are gonna win that one, you are seriously mistaken. Take it from someone who has been there in real life. When you are talking about people who are trained in CQB firearms, 5 FEET isn't close enough, let alone fifteen . Trust me. I've trained both ways, and I know at what distance to make sure the gun is out of reach for both parties, but fifteen feet? Man, you'd have ten or twelve holes in you before you got within arms reach. I would strongly advise against resting that one out.

I do agree with you. That was the only damn thing worth the money in Pinnacle Station.  Where's my DAMN HOUSE ?
I'm not sure we have access to this sector actually.

I would say : someone trained with martial arts against someone not trained for weapons. Maybe.
But I agree with you if the one you're facing is trained for weapons, no way you can stand a chance further than 4 feet.

I really don't understand the mentality of some people. I mean, give them free DLC - they moan, charge them for it and they moan. I can see the justification behind the latter, but why pre judge whether or not something will be shooter heavy, thus making it garbage. It's gonna be free ffs. I'd see the point if you shelled out £10 only to find it wasn't to your taste, but that's not gonna be the case.

Damned if you do, damned if you don't and all that guff...

Um, but this DLC is pre-paid. When we bought the game. The release version was meant to include the Hammerhead... just ask EDI when you're standing there overlooking the cargo bay. Or look at the level description in the elevator. And why is the (starboard?) observation room door locked? Because that's where Kasumi was meant to be. This DLC should be labelled 'patch' not 'DLC'.

Please, I don't want Kasumi, I want another alien companion. Why not a Prothean ?. I see human every day at my office, don't need human in a video game :D

Well, as the mere suggestion that it should be renamed made you feel the need to quote/post, I would imagine that it would, in fact, make quite a large difference! ;)

I loved Bring Down the Sky, but all the time I'm playing it I'm thinking that Saren is getting a serious headstart while Shepard is on X-57. They could've given you an e-mail from Alliance Command where they ask you to investigate, or given you some kind of red herring (you go there thinking Saren is there, but once you realize he isn't, you've still got to stop Balak) to integrate things more. It's a shame that Balak didn't appear in ME2. He could've showed up in the Javelin missile assignment in some capacity.

Hopefully, the storyline of Firewalker (if there is one) will integrate more into the main storyline. With 5 missions, it could be a recurring subplot throughout the main campaign, or a fitting epilogue to it.

In terms of melee, I'd like to at least see one sort of minigame/boss fight where or another character you control in an interlude has a big epic hand-to-hand duel with a major villain. But I'd settle for a cutscene like the Samara/Morinth biotic duel. But like someone else said, the husks are swinging fists left and right, you should be able to fight back more effectively.

I've worked on KOTOR mods, and I've followed Team Gizka's KOTOR2 Restoration Project. There are so many tweaks you can make to a pre-existing build. You'd be surprised at what only entails minor tweaking, and what requires total or near total conversions. DLC will not involve anything that involves a ton or Override files or 2DA manipulation, I think melee animations probably would involve both.

I don't think we know Kasumi's race for sure yet, she could simply look human. That said, she looks kindof like concept art for an unmasked Tali.

Now don't get me wrong, having a new heavy weapon would be great, but we kinda have a lot of devices of instant doom at this point. If they wish to bring out a highly unique way of making-things-terminally-dead then by all means bring it on.

However, what would be even more fun for myself (not sure about everyone else) is a melee class weapon. One of the highlights of ME2 was the Vanguard's Biotic Charge ability. Sure, in the begining it's a little stupid to just go leaping in there at lvl 1, but the later upgrades seriously make the thing VERY fun. The high-risk, high-reward factor of zooming in there up to a maercs face only to pummel 7 shades of snot out of them and still be standing afterwards made me clap my hands in mirthless glee!
At this point, if a melee weapon was available, I'd be saying "f**k yeah!!!" a lot.

Really, it doesn't have to be much. A ball-peen hammer or a pair of children's safety scissors would do it. :P
But some kind of bayonette or combat knife would be cool also.

Just sayin'

I'd absolutely LOVE a melee weapon in ME2!!! Something like Fallout 3's Powerfist would rock!

Never bring a knife into a gun fight...

I see absolutely no point of having a melee weapon even on vanguard, when you can shove a shotgun in the mercs face and pull the trigger.

The most stupid thing in Fallout 3 is when a power armored soldier tries to melee a minigun wielding baddie. It's just so god damn ridiculous.

So because ME is at least semirealistic sci-fi shooter, then PLEASE NO MELEE WEAPONS in ME. Go play Halo if you want to play unrealistic melee fighter.

Sometimes enemies get too close even for the shotgun. A soldier should always know how to fight when a gun isn't available. Which is why our modern military has the Survival Knife, the ASP extending baton (replaces the "billy club" for riot gear), and the Special Forces martial art form.

Thane certainly doesn't bring a knife to a gunfight, he' s a trained sniper who also utilizes Shredder rounds and biotics. But when enemies get too close for that, or when he needs to be a little bit more silent and stealthy, then he has those cool martial arts moves. It stands to reason that a Spectre would have the same skills.

I certainly could've used an ASP on Feros, when I ran out of Anti-Thorian gas grenades but still had colonists I wanted to subdue alive. I ended up shooting some colonists that I was trying to knock out. The seperate melee button for ME2 was a definite improvement.

That said, I think the reason why ME2 didn't have melee weapons was because of animation issues, and those issues would probably be too big to fix with DLC. So we got the separate button for melee attacks and those cutscenes where Thane channelled Steven Seagal as a compromise.

Carrying a combat knife or ASP is quite different than carrying a powerfist or an energy sword as a main weapon, which is what most of the melee weapon pleeders are asking for.

A quick stab from a combat knife and then continue shooting would be fine, playing a sci-fi samurai would not (in Mass Effect anyway).

For me the quick hit with the but of the gun/elbow is all the melee I need.

I never mentioned a powerfist, energy sword OR samurai sword. Hey, I would expect only relevent weaponry to the ME universe, now you're just making assumptions.
Maestro had the right idea and the point that I was getting at. Sometimes an elbow just isn't enough (even more so if you're toe-to-toe with a Krogan).
Shepherd is supposed to be one of the toughest bastards in the galaxy. Seem's only right that he could handle pretty much anything, and right now at his current melee level, I'd say he's pretty s**t when it comes to fisticufs.

Maybe it's a good idea, maybe it's a bad one, but considering that the Vanguard class is all about getting up close and personal, I think a little bit of a melee advantage wouldn't go amiss.

yeah PC owners got a lot of free content, but PC owners always buy their games new (well from retailers any way), a lot of 360 owners were buying their games used during deal times like buy 2 get 1 free with an extra 10% off having the edge card at gamestop.... while it promotes the game it hurts primary market sales.   So as an incentive, those who buy ME2 brand new for the 360 have been given a lot of free DLC and more on the way thanks to gaining free access to the Cerberus Network.  Smart move on Bioware's behalf and a win/win for everyone.  Retailers sells more games (although they make more on used), Bioware makes more money due to more new game sales, and customers are ultimately happier gaining access to the content.

Bioware is definitely one of my favorite game developers to hit the market.   Looking forward to this and other future DLC.

For those complaining about the limited scope of the free DLC, just remember this: Bioware/EA could do to ME2 what they did to Dragon Age - bundle potential DLC missions into a $40 "expansion pack."

I'll gladly take patches and free DLC; odds are I won't be shelling out funds for the ME Universe until 3 hits in early 2012.

I wouldn't suggest that BioWare deliberately took the content out - that borders on conspiracy theory. I just think it wa content that wasn't quite ready yet.
