And about those Mako maps, creating a million maps with a random map generator is ALWAYS worse than making 10 unique maps by hand. Yes ME1 has more missions in numbers but in numbers only. ME1 has like 5 semi-unique side mission, others are just copy pasted there. And ME1 missions may indeed last for 30 or even more, but of those 30 min we must spent 28 min driving with the Mako endlessly in a grey/red/green/brown mountain. At least ME2 sidemissions are all different.

This is true to an extent, but have you seen the extent of the levels thay created for Neverwinter Nights and Dragon Age?

Most of those are fantastic and 99% of them are unique.

I know they spent effort created the N7 missions, but if they can put the effort in where the other games are concerned then surely the same effort wouldn't have gone amiss with true UCWs?

Now you are comparing 3 different game engines, at least 2 different teams and 3 (or 2) different game types. You can make a unique level in DAO or NWN quite easily compared to ME2 (making cover etc. etc.). And DAO/NWN maps don't need to have any restrictions in them, just some open spaces and some textures. ME2 maps need so much more.

Could BW make 30 really unique open vehicle maps? Maybe, but that would seriously gimp their ability to make the importat parts of the game look and more importantly play nice.

Neither of us have worked on ME2 so neither of us can say just how hard or easy it is to make levels for it.

I'm not saying the levels had to be detailed down to the very last rock or blade of grass, a level can be generic and still be unique.

I'm just saying that more individual looking UCWs would have helped with lessening the samey-ness of exploration.

Knowing the principle how the vehicle maps in ME1 were created (same with NWN) and having done some 3d rendering and some minor modding, I would say I have a pretty realistic view of how hard it is to make a map with UE3.5.

But you are absolutely right, more individual looking UCWs would have been nice. But the what those maps needed the most was to have something else to do than go to a copy pasted warehouse/cave/what-ever and kill some dudes. Those got boring after a couple of those maps.

Argh... Yes, I forgot it was the Unreal engine.  You're right i've heard it's a bugger to use sometimes. Image IPB

That's why I mentioned BDtS, it had things to do other than enter the same bunker and drive up mountains - although you could if you wanted Image IPB

BDtS was an exelent side mission. I truly hope that if the Hammerhead mission have multiple parts in them they are like BDtS.

And who is to say, there might as well be some planet exploration with Hammerhead. No one knows for sure (well BW does, but they aren't telling) and we have only seen the combat system of Hammerhead. There might be some exploration also in that DLC.

I really loved the Rachni quests too, it was probably my 10th playthrough before I found those missions. Image IPB

Using the Mako to power the turrets was brilliant and is the kind of simple little touch that was needed on more mission.

I really hope so and it's just a case of Bioware not showing us everything.  ME2 really doesn't need any more corridor shoot-fests.

And I really hope we can actually get out of it like we could the Mako.

*Crosses fingers*

So, yeah, when are we gonna get a date for this DLC? I mean, the Game Developers Conference is going on now, right? Shouldn't an official announcement of a date come from there?

EDIT: ME2's presentation is Saturday, so I guess we'll have to wait until then.

It's just disappointing that they'll not listen to any of us.

You're all kidding right? April 1st has come a month early and you're all going to jump out from somewhere and shout "Surprise!! Only kidding Bioware!"

Dissapointing that they're not listening!? S**t!! They're probably all calling a f**king Samaritan's phone line for the amount of crap you're all giving them!!
Whoever first thought up the idea of making the internet their own private little world to anonymously s**t on other's ideas and creativity should be shot.
People didn't like some aspects of ME2. Okay, we all get it. Well done, you've found something else to b**ch about in your own lives. Kindly keep it to your own lives, or maybe a Mod should make a section of this forum for nay-sayers and people-who-shouldn't-have-bought-ME2.

Just think about it for a second. Taking into account of all of this little nit-picking and "Oooh I didn't like that they made the game better" , Bioware is going to take all of this junk and just s**t out ME3 and it's going to make Do It Yourself Lobotomy look entertaining.
Is that what you want!? Do you want all of those bugs and playability flaws in your next game?? No!

I haven't read the new forum topic about the new heavy weapon yet, but I'm about to.
I'm sure i'll read all about how the thing doesn't kill fast enough or why it took so long to come out or why the f**k wasn't Kasumi attached to it.

*sigh*

Sorry folks, had to vent. If you've been talking constructively, have valid points to back up what you've been saying, and still thoroughly enjoy ME2. I apologise greatly.

Yeah, because BioWare's Dragon Age and Mass Effect 2 are horrible games. And just look at what happened to DICE after EA bought them.

Oh, wait...

Please try again.

In any case, the Hammerhead looks pretty awesome, can't wait to be a big goddamn hero with it.

Did I say that Dragon Age and Mass Effect 2 are poor games ? I don't, because I just don't think it is. I have spent really good time on both of them. I'm still playing ME2, and I will start another playthrough on Dragon Age soon (with the awakening release).

What I said, like a lot of people here, is that Mass Effect didn't survive to EA. They did a whole new game as a sequel.

Spoken a true elitist.  Just because I'm not an RPGeek, doesn't mean I'm not a "true fan." One of these days, I will get sick of these so called "purists" sassing me. And then someone close to them will get hurt.

After seeing the video of the hammerhead, I think at the end the mako will be better than the hammerhead.

At least it's free.

I am pretty sure the mods take a dim view on physcial threats. I hope for your sake they have a warning system opposed to outright banning.

Anyhow no news on the hammerhead release date still? Glad I have a few books in the mail!

Really? ME2 to me is by far a better game. It does sound like a lot of nit picking.

Odd notion. I love the game, sure I think they could have done some things different, but all an all a solid hit. I expressed my gratitude by buying the game(collectors edition + lithograph). I think the notion of giving a blank pass and being "grateful" for all content would be far more harmful to both me2 and future releases. They need to know what people like and dislike. Since people spend days upon days arguing over the content shows that the fans care a great deal for their product.

I think they meant the month being March, not February.  I mean they announced it, on what, the 25th of February?  To first mention DLC and release it within three days is a stretch.

I would say so.  ME2's presentation at the GDC is this Saturday, the 13th.  That is the perfect time to announce a DLC that is to release at the end of the month, because of the two week window to build up hype and such.
