Wouldn't it be perfect if the squad and everything carried on straight from ME2 to ME3?

Aka, anyone surviving, survives, anyone dead, stays dead?

Think about it, ME2 has 12 characters. BW could easily do the full voices for those. And if they died, they simply died.

Or maybe they bring 6 back into ME3, and provide 6 more to make it an even 12?

Post your ideas for the best way BW could make the squad + story transition into ME3!

That's exactly what I would like.
Except Jack. I hate her.

I'd love to have it this way as well, but what will they do about those people who only buy ME3 and never played ME1 and ME2? (Not that I'd care about those people, but BioWare probably does.)

For those who would be starting out at ME3 (I feel sorry for them but there will be some) there is likely a set of 'default' actions just like there are if you did a playthru without importing an ME1 character...

No more new characters. Instead, they get about 20 of the level designers to edit the writer's work.

I have to disagree. I'd love to have many of the older characters AVAILABLE FOR MY SQUAD but I'd love to have 3 or 4 new guys too.

Ummm.. why do you want level designers to edit the writers work? That is like saying get all the chemists to oversee biology experiments. They are different skill sets and expertese. Even if you did not like ME2 writing (which you are entitled too) asking to have level designers to edit them won't help your case either.

People really need to understand manpower management....

I agree. At the most: just two or three new characters. ME2 seems to be all about character development. It would be a kick to the quad if Bioware went: "You know all those awesome team mates you spent 90% of the game recruiting and gaining loyalty from? They're gone now! New characters for you!"

I'm with the OP: Let's not add a huge number of new characters in ME3. Let's wrap up the stories of the ones we had in ME1 and ME2. They can be fleshed out further, have their own side quests, even. There could be a handful of new characters (two or three) for new players. But let's see more dialogue with the existing ones, and no new romantic interests. I want to see all plots and romances resolved, and even if they can't all be squadmates, I want to at least see everyone I spent so much time with. I want them to have important roles.

MASS. EFFECT. THREE. NEW. GAME.

It's not going to be an ME2 expansion pack. So face it, you'll start at Level 1. Have a save it import? Great. Level 5.
With ME2 it worked damn cool. You could activate 4 powers out of 6 at the very start.

Go to the official site. There is a bone for you. 5 new missions. With same squadmates. More will be coming.

In Mass Effect 3 new squadmates! Old ones = Liara, Ashley/Kaidan. Others -- epic NPC comebacks if survived.

Mass Effect needs to take place 75 years in the future. Shepard and Garrus are both in assisted living quarters and must gather the strength the go to the bathroom every morning. Eventually, they come out of retirement to battle the Reapers, but Garrus breaks his hip in the process and Shepard dies from old age in the midst of a battle.

Best game ever.

Reminds me of that sniper fight in Metal Gear Solid 3.

They may have to include portable cover to support them when they're walking. Imagine the tactical options.

Or the fact you have to help both Garrus and Sheaprd take their beta blockers every mission, like feeding your fish really.

As a lot of people would agree from the past threads, this is the most reasonable. 6 return from ME2, 6 go to cameo-land. Don't forget the 2 from ME1.

Most likely from ME2:
Miranda
Legion
Tali
Grunt
Jacob
Garrus

Most likely from ME1:
Liara
Ashley/Kaidan

14 is the magic number.

The default actions when you start a new ME2 character were weird. On Virmire, you saved Kaidan and let Ashley die (I guess this relates to her story about her grandfather). You let the Council die (the neutral "Concentrate on Sovereign!" option) and let Udina become humanity's representative.

So, new ME3 players will probably get an odd set too. I'm guessing anyone who died on the ship if you didn't get upgrades will be dead (serves them right for not importing!) and you let TIM keep the base.

The base issue will be a tough one. Default I beleive should be destroyed, because if you haven't played ME 2, you wouldn't know about said base.

I'm all for just having previous squad members return. Although I'm not completely averse to new squad members, I'd just rather they be limited to 1 or 2 at most--I like the idea of a Batarian squad member.

I'm in favor of a similar system to ME2, with 1 tweak. Give us 2 starting squad members (example: Miranda and ME2 LI) and then give us 15 or so dossiers on potential squad members, but only let us pick 8 of them to be permanent members, giving us 10 squadies total. This allows for great customization and replay value. You can avoid characters you hate, create tension within the group, and ensure player accountability later on in the game if you pick a bad squad.

This. I would be seriously dissapointed if Liara, Garrus and Tali didn't finish off the trilogy in my squad.

The ME2 squad mates better play a big part in ME3.

I want to see how the scenario where the only suicide mission survivors are Shepard, Tali and Grunt.

Garrus and Tali have got their screentime in ME2. They are expendable on the suicide mission and have high priority in the fatality rating due to lack of ship upgrades (& keep in mind that shooter crowd wouldn't bother with scanning minigave, therefore forgoing the upgrades, yet they might keep their saves), at the seeker swarm spot, and at the hold the line spot (only Tali). Expect these two as epic NPC / temporary squadmate comebacks. Liara was practically promised by Casey Hudson to play major part in ME3, bound to be a squadmate.

Garrus/Tali are the Kaidan/Ashley of Mass Effect 2. Except there's no Mass Effect 4, so it's highly likely those two love interests will return to clash with the former love interests (as much as I'd rather not say it).
