When exporting my level the first thing that is running is:
"Render Lightmap and Wait."

It runs just fine and after that I wait and wait and wait....... but nothing happens.
How long do I wait? Or what should I do to continue the exporting process?

The log window should tell you when it is finished rendering. You can see the effects of your light mapping by pressing on the LM button on the toolbar which toggles your lightmaps on and off. YOu also need to make sure you have actually placed some lights in the level as well, or the process really has nothing to do.

Thanks for the quick reply!

So we have to light the entire level manually? Good. I like that.
I was assuming the area environmental settings would also provide some lighting but found myself in the dark both in the area editor and in game when having a look :)

Hmmm ... I was wondering the same thing. Won't our atmospheric settings at least generate some shadows for an exterior level without placing lights manually? I mean, there are shadow settings for the sunlight layout - do they do anything?

I have this same problem... I just wanted to jump in quick to see if my thing would load (just terrain, a couple trees, and a start point) and it stalls on that lightmap stage. So I added one placeable light and its the same thing.. just sits there. And yes I have the python stuff installed.

I am also confused on outdoor lighting in general. Indoor lighting is more obvious... but is the sun stuff in the exportable area settings merely for convenience of brightening stuff in the editor, not to be used as an actual light for in-game?

Is it best to turn off the sun then and use all custom lights?

It's unfortunate you can't open up any of the .lvl files from the actual game to see how things are done. Access to that is 1000x better than any tutorial (for me anyway).
