I think it is important to let BioWare know that there is a substantial interest in this subject. Simply saying this once and then never mentioning it again might not be enough as it might be steamrolled by other subjects that are not more important but just more stressed by their supporters :o
And having this thread doesn't diminish the attention the RPG vs TPS-threads (or similar ones) get.

So i think it's all good :innocent:

I agree. Keep this thread going, guys.

EDIT: BAM! Page 140!

Shepard being the galactic sexual conquistador he/she is could probably get laid with just about anyone. So yeah why not.

That's "the priiize" comment? Not nearly as bad as people make it out to be.

The entire conversation is quite creepy if you listen to it.  The teh
priiiiiiiiize part makes it that more creepy.  Initially I hadn't
remembered he had said the "teh priiiize" thing on my FemShep/Liara
playthough but after I saw it again I realized I had.  I remeber my
feeling when he first came there and I was creeped the **** out.

At
first I was going to romance him because to me he was the only one I
could tolerate since Garrus looks like a bird with raptor teeth and
Thane's eyes creep me out.  And then he's all, "I crept into your office
and blah blah blah I'm a creep.  Yes I am and if you sleep with me u
won't be waking up because i'm a intergalatic serial killer."  So yeah I
ended up reloading and staying faithful to Liara.

Oh come on, it's worth romancing him at least once, just for the chance of shoting him down when he comes up. I had a severe case of giggles when I first watched that video where Shepard turns him down, I just couldn't believe they could make him that tacky. Hale sounds so gleeful when she sends him back down with his tail between his legs

It's worse within the context of Shepard rejecting him. I couldn't find that video, however.

Shepard tells him they should save it for after the mission, and he gets all pissy.

Everyone gets super pissed in this one from rejection, I'm looking at you Jack, grow hips bigger than Tali and we'll talk... You can keep the fingers though.

Well, I have no idea what went on between Jacob and Shepard before the suicide mission romance scene, but considering how much Shepard kept poking at Jack during their later conversations it makes complete sense for her to get pissed off if she's rejected.

Thank you for sharing that. It's interesting to see that different sources are still "printing" examinations of this issue as the initial blitz of media around ME2's release dies down. It's also interesting that the writers of these pieces typically reference these threads.

Thanks for the good discussion, everyone!

While the article was a tad accusatory I can understand the writer's frustration. Bioware has the power to promote equality in the gaming sphere - a culture that is often fairly anti-gay in a 14 year old sense. They've tested the waters with that power and I (as well as the many other gay gamers I know) have long applauded them for it. It has been extremely nice to play a character with which we can relate; whether it's the quiet monk from Jade Empire and Sky, or for my ****** friends the hard bitten Shepard voiced expertly by Hale.

Yet it seems like they're shying away from using their power to promote equality in their "big money" franchise, and that saddens me. Not because I'm angry with or suspicious of Bioware's intent, but because Bioware feels the need to be cautious on such matters based on a bigoted culture at large. I applaud Bioware's efforts in the past and implore them to take a stand here - show your (rather devoted) gay fans that you hear our voices and give us the chance to connect with our characters the way straight players take for granted.

Thanks for the link. Its always nice to see people caring about the issue. Even if they don't come up with exciting new arguments :P

Bioware has no obligation to promote equality. I don't really think they're promoting equality in having same sex romances, nor should they be expected to make political statements. That said however, I've no problem with new characters who are LGBT. Why not have a bisexual male character in ME3?

Just saw the Jacob rejection vid.. EEW! Did he just cop a feel on his way out? I would have sliced his hand off. Mission be dammed.

I support this thread.

This game is all about choices, and there will always be limits to the choices the players can make, but I believe the more, the better. It is true that Bioware will limit the choices the players can make, and this is their vision, so if they want to have it so that the player cannot make Shepard LGBT then that's their prerogative, but since they've always seemed to be willing to listen to player recommendations/requests, I for one would like this option.

Nowhere did anyone say that they had an obligation to doso; to suggest as such is a strawman at best. However, you cannot deny that a positive portrayal of an oppressed group in media, especially interactive media, increases the likelyhood of a positive view towards that group. By implementing policies of inclusion media outlets and producers like Bioware or Holywood absolutely do promote an enviroment more open to equality. Media affects our lives, it doesn't exist in a vacuum.

I know.

The question is whether the same sex romances are positive. Simply being there is not guranteed to have a positive effect. Take Zevran for example, he isn't exactly the spitting image of morality.

I'm not saying that putting same ex romances won't affect people's impressions of homosexuals. I'm saying that Bioware should be expected to make political statements.

And, again, no one is saying Bioware is obligated or expected to do so. You're arguing against positions nobody has taken.

However, I certainly hope a company with such a large gay-gamer following and who has been GLBT friendly in the past would continue to take a stand for inclusion. Again, in case you missed this, I do not expect, nor feel they are obligated to do this. It's simply something I, as a consumer and loyal Bioware fan, would like to see.

Does it matter? This thread is about same sex romances in general, no one needs to be replying to someone specifically.

Sorry if I made it seem like I was accusing someone I've never known this :)

It detracts from the conversation at hand; when you claim Bioware shouldn't be obligated to make political statements (which is a stance everyone in this thread agrees with) it implies and makes it seem like we, the supporters of this thread, feel like that should. This is disingenuous and could very easily (and has in the past 140 pages) lead to a lot of unnecessary misunderstandings. Everyone here is in agreement with you, so stating that opinion repeatedly serves no purpose.

I've actually met people who think that Bioware is being discriminatory and homophobic in how they've handled Mass Effect 1 & 2. So while the people who have most recently posted may agree with me, it's not as I think everyone agrees with me. By your reasoning, a lot of what has been said in this thread serves no person. I might remind you that most of the posts in this thread were made by the same people posting over and over again. These people tend to have the same opinion. It is very important for the inclusion of same sex romances that the opinions are heard and from multiple people. A single fan is not going to sway Bioware to making an M/M romance, but many fans might. So I'll think I'll continue posting my opinion just as I like, thank you :)
