*shrugs* Most of the people I know find the male form more aesthetically pleasing. Unless they happen to be straight males.

...and no I don't like hairy dudes. Most guys I know don't like hairy chicks so I consider that even.

This discussion about who is more aesthetically pleasing is both speculation and beating a dead horse.

Maybe
I am stupid or maybe it's because english is not my mother tongue, but I
don't understand what you are getting at.......

Outside
of 'badass human space marine,' there isn't really a 'canon' Shepard.
There could have been - Bioware could have opted to create a character
from the ground up that anyone playing ME would have to use......

It's
not that I meant it as "Shepard is X over a,b,c and d" more so that
in order for a stroy to be written there needs to be a general guide
line of what a character is, who they are and what they are about. By
introducing elements of open gameplay such as romances, the paragon
system and loyalty missions you are opening up the core elements of what
the character or player is.

*spoiler* DA:A

For a
better example DA:A has events to where the Warden Commander has to
function as such within the game and delegate over matters of state.
Deciding how complaints are dealt with in a judicial matter, who and
what gets protected from the Darkspawn.

*end*

Those types
of things are an opening up of the gameplay to fit the players own
personalized experience into them. Which is the same type of gameplay
that is used with romance options to that there is no doubt.

But
with romances specifically the only effect that they have in the game
are interpersonal with the player. It's not about increasing the
capacity of the gameplay or the level of immersion that a player has
with a character or what the player is capable of experiencing. In both
ME1 and ME2 The effect of the romance options are only relevant to very
minor story changes. And even more so in DA:O. So it seem's to me that
the actual gameplay value that romances provide are only cosmetic in
relation to the story and what extra blurbs there are about the the
character at the end epilogue as is the case with DA:O. Where as with
DA:A the decisions effect that actual story that you play through.

Romancing
Tali has no effect on if she lives or dies at the end of ME2 for
example when it should. It's merely a cosmetic value of gameplay.

Eh. What do we do other than beat dead horses? Tis a forum. Its pretty much a giant beating dead horses after a month of the game release date.

no seriously... we really dont want this. please dont put your homasexua ideas into my video game. serious.

this is Generalised and unfounded opinion and you are assuming that buying the game (or saying you will) gives you ownership over the games content.

Besides why is this a big deal? When ME3 rolls around they will put in some new characters and have new romances, if one out of some fifteen romances (in all 3 games) is same sex why should anyone care? Its not like having the option in the game makes you automatically swing that way, and as my learned forum goer above suggests just ignore it and you wont even notice it. Besides they wont put in same sex romances for already established characters as their sexuality is canon. So again we will probably get a single char in ME3 that is bi or something allowing both sexes (ala liara).

One more note @Livemmo what is your opinion on lesbians?

*edit* damn i type slow, about twenty posts have been written since i started

While this is an interesting conversation, we do need to stay on topic B)

so if you could find a way to bring it back to Mass Effect :P

Well, it kind of is related to Mass Effect, what with Asari obviously being the "safe" female/female romance, while there's no male/male equivalent. Asari aren't "male or female," yet they were shamelessly designed to be attractive women. If they were a race of ambiguous-gendered aliens, why not look the part? They're "female" because the female form is attractive. If they looked more androgynous, some fans (probably males, mostly) would associate it too much with the male body. It seems like Asari are the "have your cake and eat it too" Mass Effect race, since they satisfy the girl on girl entertainment while still allowing for argument why there's no male/male romance.

Aw. :crying: You stealeth my funz.

Anyways. MShep x Kaidan could be handled really well in ME3. Joker would be interesting too...though Hendel would probably be the safest bet. No one can get mad and go: "That's OOC! He's not gay!!!"

Also that whole reunion scene is pretty ho yay tastic even without the import of an MShepxKaidan relationship.

"Losing you was like losing a limb."

Uh...yeah...alrighty then Kaidan.

Personally, I don't like the statement 'women are more aesthetically pleasing'; it is far too ambiguous, subjective, and open-ended for my taste. For example, how is the female form "more pleasing" than the male form? Examples? Sources? And how are you measuring aesthetic beauty? You've provided no operational definition and have cited heresay and conjecture as your main argument. "Most people" is not a statistic. Just saying...specificity might be in your favor.

Specificity isn't in my favor since because I have no personal view. I'm not saying men or women are more aesthetically pleasing. I'm just saying the majority of people (straight men and bisexual women obviously, straight women and bisexual men depends on the individual), from my point of view, find the female form at its best more pleasing to look at than males. Probably due at least in part to how much more females are sensualized/sexualized in (American) society and media.

I don't need to be "justified" in saying it, because it's not my personal belief.

And I wasn't talking of your personal view.  You do not need one to express a view or statement.  You are arguing for a particular viewpoint; that it is not yours is irrelevant.  When I mentioned make-up, I was in essence providing a potential supporting idea for the very viewpoint for which you were arguing, yet it was not my personal view.  I also never stated you needed to be "justified" (and using quotes implies that I said that--or typed, rather--verbatim).  Justification implies the role of morality.  I think you mean rationalization, which is the provision of logical reasoning and conclusions.

It's a conclusion I've come to from my own observations.

Which is why I responded in the first place.  You opened up a discussion to refute your conclusion.  In my case, your methodology (i.e., "observations"), which are invalid.

If I'm wrong,
I'm wrong. If you'd like to "prove" that I'm wrong, by all means. In any
case you're entitled to your opinion, too.

It was my opinion that I did not like your rather undefined statement from a scientific/empirical stance.  It is not opinion that your methodology is illogical; it is a fallacy.

But I do suppose we've gone a bit off-topic.  I'm trying to remember how this all began.

It's not going to happen, thankfully. Wasting resources there to make a new romance just for players who
a) Had Kaidan survive.
B) Are male.
c) Are into it.

By default, male Shepards virmired Kaidan. So you can't have your gay friend only play ME3 for gay kaidan love.

I thought Hendel already had a boyfriend. Just make new characters that are gay or bisexual, best route. Joker could be bisexual. Not gay, unless he is a gay man taking scholarly interest in hardcore asari porn.

Well, that's the obvious conclusion. That's the obvious conclusion as to why there's no male/male romance. I was just generalizing for the sake of argument.

Meh Hendel's boyfriend could always meet with an....unfortunate accident.

But yeah Kaidan's not likely. :crying:

Joker...actually Joker would make a lot of sense. And if he's made into a LI for FemSheps would take a lot less work than Kaidan.

Hm...I did read a good MShep x Joker fic with Joker having feelings for MShep but not acting on them until the final game time period. It was really good actually.

But yeah any male same sex LI would be Bi. I doubt they'd ever be just gay.

Though Joker x Shep (both genders) has a lot of potential.

Heck he's the last of Shep's main companions not to be romanceable!

How would Joker make sense as M/M? If there is any sense to or against him being an option for male Shepards, I would say that there is less sense considering that he's shown to like females.

Uh. What is no bisexuals in season again? :?

Hm...I said if written appropriately. Anything can make sense if written with enough backstory (with MShep and Joker have plenty of). I'm not suggesting he be completely gay. (Could be written and pulled off by a talented enough writer and make sense but I'm not suggesting that).

Edit: Also we already had this argument just with Tali. So let's not do this again we already know how its going to end. Neither of us will reverse our positions and will likely aggravate each other.

Ok, I thought you was tieing this into your view on male vs female attractiveness.
I suppose that is drifting off topic though.  Or so it would seem with some of the
other members here stating it as such.

I just like to debate.:DEspecially when I believe I am right.
