Again I disagree...this has absolutely nothing to do with Fox News..not sure why people keep clinging to that.
Muzyka confirmed (for me) what I had already thought: They just didn't want that to be a choice for their story and their "hero". Simple. Regardless if there were pre-recorded voice acting for certain relationships, that doesn't mean it's set in stone. Maybe they recorded those lines contemplating the option of letting players make that choice, but then reviewing what they had, and after focus group play testing, they decided to go a different direction. It happens all of the time in development.
Bioware is not afraid to address homosexuality in their games, Dragon Age has it....they just chose not to have it in ME is all.

I think it's pretty obvious that some sort of social pressure is in play here, and Fox News is a convenient shorthand for the conservative media and conservative people in general.

Like I said, if this is their choice based on story or character reasoning, then it shows a very narrow attitude. Shepard can be any ethnicity, any religion or none at all, a man, a woman, a bully, a saint, a soldier, an engineer, a biotic god/goddess, and can look like almost anyone. Shepard can even play at being a lesbian, but Shepard can't be a gay man. I guess there's something wrong with being a gay man in Alberta these days.

Could someone please translate what the f*** Casey Hudson said in that thing?  The interviewer specificly asks him why FemShep can't romance Tali and he's like, 'Blah blah blah blah blah, Tali's love scene is a little more innocent and fun.'

WHAT?

This may be the answer: "We still view it as... if you're picturing a PG-13 action movie. That's how we're trying to design it.  ".

Somebody should let him know that Mass Effect 2 is rated M for Mature.

'Blah, blah, blah, we wanted Tali's love scene to be innocent and fun, so the presence of a female Shepard would have ruined it by turning into dirty M-rated lesbian material even though it's an M-rated game.'

I love this stuff!!!

He doesn't want explicit sexuality to distract you from the game's plot, and I can respect that. But not that he dodges half of Shepard's sexual orientation completely.

By Casey's definition?  No.

I wonder how that one snuck past the censors?

Neither are any of the 45 f-bombs Jack drops throughout the course of the game.  Everything about that woman screams 'M rating'!

Again, meh.

I hate being negative, but from the way this seems to be unfolding, it looks like they're solidly catering to the "I support gay marriage, but only if both chicks are hot" crowd.  This is all kinds of creepy and disappointing, because I know they're better than that.

But again, I hate being negative, and since office jobs are conducive to 4um poasting, I'll keep on trucking.  I don't mind going on record that their decision not to include it, and especially their reasoning for that exclusion, is totally ridiculous.  But there's no harm in vocally expressing interest.

As I've said before, more people support this than not.  Even more people don't care, because they rightly assume that it will not negatively impact their game.  Adding it would enrich the game for a huge chunk of their audience.  I still think there's a good chance they'll listen, considering how much longer ME2's lifespan should be.

As far as I am concerned, all the killing in the game is enough to justify an M rating. The fact that Bioware balks at including a tame m/m romance is beyond silly, and is a tacit admission of some form of homophobia on their part. Everything I've read has been excuses meant to justify a position that is not logically sound. They would be better off just stating that they are not comfortable with male homosexuality for personal reasons, or that they bowed to the Religious Right and decided to go the safe route, lest they anger a substantial segment of their game buyers. Neither reason paints them in a flattering light, but at least it wouldn't be misdirection.

With all the gory headshots and the most adult language I've ever heard in a game (the s-word especially (particularly in one memorable sequence) and the f-word popping up a couple of times), they sure are piling on the bull.
If they just come out and honestly say, "We're concerned it would alienate too many of the young dude shooter fans we're trying to reach with this game," I'd still lose respect for them, but not nearly as much as I am with these ridiculous arguments they're making.

That clearly isn't the case, looking at Dragon Age - no, the chances are that it was a matter of marketing. It would be nice if they could at least admit that instead of bluntly dodging the question to completely unrelated sidetracks, I agree, though.

I'm really just rambling when I'm saying all this...

I don't mind the prospect of homosexual relationships at all in any game, but when a character gets fleshed out, a same-sex romance could be considered out-of-character for some of them.

For example, Zevran in DA:O is bisexual, so canon wise, it is perfectly logical that the player has the option to romance him as either gender... but Jacob in ME2 is heterosexual, and so it is unlikely that a male character could ever engage in a romance with him.

Of course, human-alien interaction might lead to differences in sexual attraction, so it may be possible for characters of a different species to overlook similarities in gender. As such, I see it possible for species who do not have much biologically in common to feel a mutual attraction in many respects.

I see it possible that Jack is bisexual, Miranda, probably not. I think it would be possible for Thane to have feelings for a male character; Garrus, probably not. I'm not sure about Tali. It could be argued that she is heterosexual, but we have no knowledge of her previous relationships, so it can be speculated. The Asari are monogendered, so sexuality is a non-issue with them. Salarians are probably difficult to romance for any gender, except for the inexplicably irresistible Asari, as seen by the bachelor party.

So in the end, I support same sex romances so long as it is believable.  Shepard probably should not be any more Kirkish than he/she already is.

She hasn't had any, as she freely tells you. It would be easier to establish her as heterosexual if it wasn't for that flirty sequence that never gets mentioned again - just a simple "oh, you misunderstood me" would have gone a long way.

Both Thane and Jacob (plus Kaiden) could potentially seen as male same-sex options, as well - they're not entierly without potential subtext, if the writers would choose to interpret it that way.

Ontopic: Eh. Now I once again want a Joker romance for both genders.

You sure Kaidan is more of the whole "losing you was like losing a limb." convo in 2. The way MShep talks to Jacob (like with FemShep its pretty...odd. First time I saw it I actually thought Jacob was a M/M option) would explain Jacob. I swear he was looking him up and down during a convo. It was weird. Thane...meh. Thane is kind of in the air to me. I didn't notice any particular flirty exchanges. Then again I only watched someone else play.

...honestly that was little awkard.

Edit: Lulz at the Kaidan pic. He's not whiny at all. I don't see where people get that from.

And even if he was a M/M option he wouldn't be homosexual. He's be Bi. There's a difference. :crying:

Another Edit: The awkwardness was mostly Kaidan and Jacob. Like I sat there for the whole convo thinking Jacob was a M/M option then going: "but BW said there wasn't any...but this is sure suggestive...nah...maybe?" until the last convo with him. :pinched:

Of course heterosexual men can display feelings!
For example, whenever a straight man hits another equally straight man over the head, he feels the impact.
- Maaaaanly feelings.

Absolutely yes. It is an excellent series. I recommend giving it three or more episodes to see if you like it, though I liked it from the very beginning. I liked the Jack Harkness character, he was attracted to people regardless of gender, and even sapient aliens. Much like female Shepard.
