Absolutely yes. It is an excellent series.

In my opinion the first season was rather weak, but it finds its legs in the second season. Though I still wouldn't recommend it unless you've also watched at least the first and second season of the new Doctor Who as well - some of the plot elements aren't exactly easy to understand otherwise.

totally off topic: Torchwood. I keep hearing really good things about this series. Should I give it a go?

Absolutely yes. It is an excellent series. I recommend giving it three or more episodes to see if you like it, though I liked it from the very beginning. I liked the Jack Harkness character, he was attracted to people regardless of gender, and even sapient aliens. Much like female Shepard.

I know I saw a video of some of his hott kisses with some of the male and female characters in the show. :innocent: Sizziling!

...I know the horrible yaoi fangirl in me can't resist. :(

Ontopic: I wonder who would win for a F/F option? Tali or Jack?

Aw who am I kiding Tali would own Jack. :wizard:

I'd prefer Tali simply to keep the Bioware tradition of non-stereotypical sexual minorities (at least on the female side) going.

Sigh. Bioware skirts around the issue yet again.

Poor Casey Hudson, his comical attempts to explain the unexplainable just keep getting more entertaining. Even Ray Muzyka got into the act this time, that was great. I really wish we knew for sure whether Casey's comicly insane comments were to defend his own terrible decision or whether it was Ray's call and Casey's just stuck having to try to defend it. Both gave answers that made no sense, so its hard to tell which one is trying, and failing, to defend the actions of the other (although obviously its far more likely that Hudson was the one that made the call since he's the lead ME guy) . One could have so much fun going through those quotes and pulling out comment after comment that either makes absolutely no sense or outright contradicts another comment, its just great.

It would be nice at a certain point though, if they would just say 'OK, we admit it, we made a mistake, it won't happen again, and we'll fix it with DLC soon'. These comments are great fun, like Ray's comment 'We believe in diversity and we believe in enabling choices for our fans, its important to us' as an answer to a question of why theres NOT diversity or choice, or Hudson's 'innocent and fun' comment about Tali's romance, as if it would be less innocent or less fun if FemShep players were playing it. However ultimately it would be more fun if they stopped embarassing themselves and just admit they screwed up, and fix it with DLC. They'd gain a lot of respect and a lot more fans if they did, plus TONS of people who haven't bought the game because of this issue would do so, and folks like myself who bought the game but haven't reccomended it to any of their friends because of this, would be able to happily reccomend it to all their friends, it would be a huge win-win for everybody!

How's Jack or her romance stereotypical of sexual minorities?  I thought her character/romance was much deeper than 'I'm the bada** bisexual chick, muhaaahhaaa!'

A while ago I was contacted by someone involved in the production of ME2 - I won't say who, for obvious reasons.

But they informed me that it was the decision of someone high-up the chain of command within ME2, and that a lot of the ME2 team fought hard to keep the same-sex content in the game - unfortunately they lost.

As the for interviews with Casey and Ray - well, we've heard all that before...

Casey basically made a case for why Tali is a good romance option, not why you can't romance her as a female, and Ray just peddled the same "pre-defined character" spiel that angered people last time.

I'm not surprised.  It's sad, really.  We should be thankful to those at BW that did fight to try to keep same-sex content in the game.

Whoever you are that did fight for this, if you are reading this...thanks!

*curls in a tight little ball and cries*

I knew it. :crying:

Porbably the same genius who came up with the idea of toning down the sex scenes to that clothed dry humping nonsense. <_<

Mmm. I guess. I see what you're saying, but... I suppose anything which helps undermine stereotyping is a good thing. In that respect Miranda would work, too.

I just prefer Jack's VA to Miranda's or Tali's and find that character's back story more engaging.

Of course, it's kind of a foregone conclusion as putting anything to a vote these days results in Tali winning. Favourite character: Tali. Favourite VA in ME: Tali. Favourite planet in ME: Tali. Favourite pizza topping: Tali... <_<

I don't think we should give up though. Okay, we won't get s/s dlc for ME2 but they haven't flat out said that there will not be any s/s romance in ME3. Our group membership keeps going up so there is obviously an interest.

Not only that - if ME3 is to be the last game featuring Shepard, surely they should give people the chance to finally show their Shepard's sexuality before the trilogy ends.

We can hope, idk if ME keeps going the way it's going i might just give up on it, Assassin's creed has a much better story and Final Fantasy XIII can keep more engaged for longer periods of time without making me download bonus crap

Pity that we can't really consider that more than anecdotal evidence even if a Bioware employee indeed said that. Sorry, but I tend to be paranoid about things presented as facts on Internet forums without backing. :?
But if it is true then at least it means that the dev team itself is positive for the option. There have been several articles about the topic in various Internet media now, and there's been plenty of attention directed to the issue, probably thanks to Dragon Age's precedence. The group devoted to it is swelling with fair speed as well.
If this goes on, it'll hopefully get the higher ups to reconsider their decision from a financial and PR standpoint, and allow either a DLC expansion for those who are interested, or at least allow the option to exist for ME3.

Yeah, sorry I can't give more evidence. I do indeed have proof that it's true, but providing it would also single out the dev that contacted me - something I don't really want to do.

But as you say - the group is growing steadily - I imagine Bioware will squeeze at least one s/s romance into ME3 - if only to stop the backlash.

I just don't see how depicting a serious, mature, female/female relationship with FemShep/Jack would be stereotyping bisexual women.  I'll admit, Jack has a troubled past and when people look at her they think, 'Oh she's a rebel!  She must be bisexual!'   Her romance was handled very well, though, and I would be proud, as a lesbian, to show people this romance.

Now, if they made the FemShep/Jack romance end in the death of either one of them and it was full of ridiculous over-the-top 'lesbo' drama, I'd be upset and offended :P

Heck, just look at Kelly!  I find her 'romance' way more offensive than a potential Jack/FemShep one.

Casey has already alluded to this in an interview....the FemShep/LIara romance will be in ME3.  The question is, will they add a new one, especially a m/m one?

QFT. Thank you for so much for saying what I was thinking. :)

A stereotype is about more than visual appearance and her character is nuanced and three dimensional. The great thing about Jack is that it would have been easy for her to turn out to be a stereotype... but she isn't.

Yeah, I'm glad someone agrees!  Thanks for succinctly summarizing my ramblings :)
