I would have to track down the quote again, but I believe it was that they had to decide what to cut, and the s/s relationships would be 'seen less', or some such. I will go search for it.

I noticed that the other thread was locked. Apparently there is no need for two M/M romance threads, I'm assuming this is the other one they were talking about.

But that doesn't explain the FemShep x Ashley which was completely finished. :?

Am I really neutral though? *ponders*

Seen less? Boy. I reckon there's a ton of content in both games that is played to a greater or lesser extent than other content. That's what happens when you make a game that enables choice. (Not having a go at you, just that excuse!)

Also, can I suggest that if any of the people who were riling things up in the other thread that just got closed come over here we completely ignore them. To get drawn into a debate when it is founded on the ground of 'eugenics' and other bigoted remarks only panders to their agenda and will ultimately result in this thread being closed as well. No matter how much we think we can reason with them, we can't. Let's just carry on our own conversations and keep this thread the happy (mostly) place it has grown into being.

I agree with catabuca. Thoughtful debate requires at least two thoughtful parties. The detractors in the other thread were simply stating the most bizarre and unsupportable positions they could think of, presumably to incite chaos. They succeeded to an extent, but probably not to the extent they were hoping for.

QFT. Has anyone EVER encountered Wrex's brother in an imported save? The average ME player is keeping Wrex alive every time.

As far as M/M love interests... I can say that it was planned, but as
far as I know it was cut due to time constraints. Quite frankly the
demand is small. I'm not defending it, but the choice is between a level
that everyone will enjoy and a romance that only a minority will enjoy.

Keep in mind, this *does* come from someone who only worked on ME2 and not ME1. So, there is that.

So true. I just can't bring myself to romance Jacob. His appearance is okay when he's not talking (though his eyes are little too close together) but as soon as he opens his mouth I involuntarily cringe. Seriously, that has to be some of the worst dialogue/voice acting/voice direction ever. So not romance-worthy. Jacob is the Ashley of ME2.

Glad to see those time constraints didn't stop them adding in Garrus and Tali as new love interests, or giving players lots and lots of hetero choice. I mean, I'd much rather be able to choose, heterosexually, between Jacob, Garrus, Thane, Jack, Miranda, Kelly, Tali and Morinth than have, say, only 4 of those options and a new Blue Suns shooty-shooty mission.

I'm being flippant. My point is that the time constraint excuse is very handy, because it can be used to justify just about whatever the heck you like, but in the context of ME2 it just isn't born out.

You're right.  Too bad they use the 'time constraints' crutch a lot.

Oh, and I would've preferred a new Blue Suns shooty-shooty mission to two more het romances.  :P

Everyone would've seen the mission!  I didn't see the het romances.

So how do they explain Jacob? What did they toss in favour of the romance that no one enjoys?

This really makes me question whether I'll actually purchase another Bioware product. It's not so much the fact that they've locked homosexual content out of the game, but more about the notion that they cannot control their own games.

If this is just another in a long line of companies to suffer from EA-ification, I personally don't think they're worth my coin.

The fact that they lock homosexual content out annoys me a great deal, because it' is especially hypocritical with the whole asari/Kelly thing.

I think there should be as much choice as possible.  I've never understood how people can be so fiercely opposed to choice.

But Bioware losing control of their games, yeah, this concerns me tremendously.

Thing is, I don't think they've lost control of their games to EA. They are still very much in control. It appears, on the grapevine, that many of the BW employees did fight for s/s to be kept in the game but a mysterious person high up in the BW chain of command vetoed it. EA has s/s in other titles (very blatantly-so in The Sims or Fable II, for example), so that was probably not such a big factor in this.

However, yes, more choice can only ever be a good thing, and no Hudson, that doesn't mean just more options for hetero loving, it means a couple of options for s/s loving too.

Boo! Look at how evil I am for advocating something
not really that extreme when it comes to genetics. That is my actual
position on the matter and was no attempt to stir up chaos. Yet pretty
much saying anything that does not fall into far-left "gay pride" supporter
terrority makes one "ignorant", "homophobic", a ****, or worse among this crowd.

The truth is I actually know gay people, but that doesn't change my opinions on the matter. Yet by not having views that confrom your standards, I am apparently a member of the KKK, a neo-****, and a racist who kidnaps orphans and turns them into dog food.

On the previous page this crowd was advocating forcing your "politically-correct" opinion on the masses through indoctrination in the form of education, and even down to whining, complaining, and begging that gay content be put into Mass Effect. And I am supposed to be the bad guy because I believe homosexuals should keep such business behind closed doors and not in the public realm? Ha!

Now I'll see if you can actually resist responding to this, but no matter because I simply wanted to restate my opinions. This topic is just as borderline crazy as the Tali fanboydom thread, and trying to argue with you would be comparable to smashing my head into the wall for the next five hours.

Good day gentlemen.

Seen less?

I was late to the previous thread you mention and so am not aware of whether the fact that I believe Bioware has the right to make these decisions for themselves bereft of the requirement to satisfy the preferences of every one of their customers makes me a "bigot" or everyone's favorite buzzword, a "homophobe", but :

I would like to state how ironic it is that your first paragraph above puts high degrees of importance upon "choice" while your second suggests that the opinions of anyone you "can't reason with" (which I can only assume from your tone and the comments you refer to in the previous thread means people who will not capitulate) should be ignored, leaving those with like minds in their own euphoric state of righteousness.

How is that not "assimilate or cease to exist"? The very thing you claim to be railing against? And if there's nothing wrong with that, then what is wrong with what is ultimately the bottom line on Bioware's stance, which is that it's a no go, and if you don't like it, don't buy it?

For the record, I still consider myself to be straight, although I have had three encounters with other women. Some would tell me that after the first one, I ceased to be straight. I guess they might have something there, but either way I am not some witchhunting zealot waving a flag with one hand and the "Good Book" with the other. I'm just someone who has known for over 30 years that life isn't fair and who made a decision early on in the process that there was nothing to be gained by repeatedly asking why it was not.
